Everyone in TyRanT played on great form, but for me TaToH was the MVP with his eccentric strategy innovations.
Speaking of, where's the MVP poll for the finals?
Actually, I've been wondering something about this.
As Frank pocket, do you think it could ever make sense to research Chivalry while waiting for the Imp upgrade, so you can do Cavalier and Pala that much faster? (Maybe in regicide where you already have a castle?)
On Paladins: SotL shows (in theory and with AI vs AI experiments) something like 50 cavaliers are stronger than 40 palas. Since they're also cheaper in total cost, you should only consider paladin if you have (or plan to make) 40 heavy cav units.
Wheelbarrow is a much more complicated case...
Good point again, this isn't common sense at all. The superiorty paper shows it though - and SotL explains it very nicely in his Paladin videos (including expriments IIRC).
In short, it's related to Lancaster's law: 10% more units have both 10% more damage output and 10% more beef, so you need...
I never meant to suggest knights are a go-to with Saracens, only that it can be fine situationally (if you need to hit hard, fast).
If I read you correctly, you are suggesting that a top athlete has nothing to learn from a research scientist observing her/his pursuit. IMO this isn't always the...
I agree with many of your points, except these:
If the players themselves care about the difference between e.g. 5th and 6th place, I think the opposite is true - more to play for than in an elimination Bo7 game where your star opponent is already 3-0 up. IIRC, in MoA5, some lower-seeded...
To be more on-topic (disclaimer - I'm a maths PhD but an AoE2 noob):
I think even expert players sometimes overestimate the utility of upgrades, cf. Spirit of the Law's excellent videos on how Paladins are only worth it if you make a lot of them, and how the same resources are worth more...
I like this idea and would suggest extending it to PoV streams when allowed.
With all due respect to The Viper, he got way more in fan donations during MoA5 than his eventual champion prize money: I can't see how this can be good for the future of the competitive scene.
I'd also favour a...
Speaking as a total noob & enthusiastic viewer, I can't see what's wrong with pure Swiss tournaments:
* granted, there's no official Grand Final -- but viewers who only care about #1 tend to understand which are the key games anyway
* gives more play time to up and coming / less known players -...
You forgot Goths. Seeing the BoA draft stats, I think it would be OK to give their stone walls back...
Edit: IMHO the best way to buff Goths is to allow their infantry discount (full or in part) in Dark Age.
