League of Legends host - just won host of the year at the Esport Awards. He’s done some streams/community games with T90 over the years. Pretty high profile pickup for the event.
Plenty of other AOE2 events got great viewership. I hope people have the mindfullness not to use the viewership of one tournament (that was announced late and streamed at inconvenient hours) as a benchmark for the entire scene.
AOE2 is one of the least "professional" esports, and I honestly love that. It's a scene of individuals and personalities, and I'd much rather have that than the bland corporatized experience so many other games offer.
Lots of lessons to be learned from this tournament, but overall I think it went pretty well given the short notice. Tons of really great sets, and while I definitely want to see open streaming in the future I thought the casters they brought in (and Daut!) did a good job. The Dave/Ornlu cast...
All of this. Announcing a LAN on such short notices was always going to be a clusterfuck considering how many top players are spread around the globe and will need visas. And closed streaming is something that's actively bad for the scene
lmao what's the point of a check in hour if it's first come first serve?? Even if the rules called it our clearly (which is debateable) it's still counter intuitive.
