Well you're entitled to your opinion.I think that’s a tough claim to back up considering he hasn’t won a major event in over a year now. Meanwhile Lierey has won 2 in that span, Hera has 1 and Daut has 1.
I’d agree he’s in the top-4 but think “probably the best player” is tough to back up at this point.
Isn't this true of anyone among Liereyy, Viper and Hera? It's not like game 1 or game 2 of the semi were displays of Hera's maximum ability.Viper - If he plays at his top level, he is no.1 clearly.
I maybe a bit biased. Viper game is just so much fun to watch, just subjectively think when he plays at his maximum ability he can beat anyone including peak Liereyy & Hera. Its hard to prove though.Isn't this true of anyone among Liereyy, Viper and Hera? It's not like game 1 or game 2 of the semi were displays of Hera's maximum ability.
the problem is that theviper has already 8 ballon d'or and hera or lierrey just one or two max.Viper - If he plays at his top level, he is no.1 clearly.
But his consistency became a problem. He just can't play at his best level consistently so far.
Liereyy, Hera I think they are similiar, one is aggressive another one is defensive.
I put Liereyy slightly ahead of Hera because Liereyy plays better TG in my opinon.
BTW its just hard to put Viper front of Hera and Liereyy atm so I would say they are the same. Just like Messi and Ronaldo if this can be the analogy.
Yo is positioned between those 3 and the rest. Think he is closer to Tatoh and MBL rather than to Hera and Liereyy tbh.
Maybe but it's the results that matter, Theviper can still be intrinsically the best but if he can't success in any S-tier tournament in 1 year, he's no n*1 for that year, simple as that. But look at how how he actually played.
HC4 he was pretty beastly, then he fought hera and went 2-0 up. He lost to hera by the finest of margins (1 game), and the home map shenanigans discussed above didn't help him, and he could have just as easily won this set.
So i'd say he's still up there with the very best, simply not as dominant as he once was.... but he's still probably the best player.
but we are not talking who is the GOAT btw,But if

10+years ago I could play footy games for entire afternoon, drank beer and felt good the next day.Im curious about the performance dropping related to age in aoc career. Is it a thing?
I feel like age does not change your peak performance but it effects how consistently you can perform at that level. I can see it in Dauts and Vipers careers, also can see younger players much more consistent with their performances.
was literally about to post a comment saying to think of it like athleticism in football 1110+years ago I could play footy games for entire afternoon, drank beer and felt good the next day.
Last month I played 90mins I went to physio the next day. 11
Age is often seen as an "excuse" for poorer performance but I do think it should not be ignored. You actually don't need to be a gamer to notice it can have an impact, a lot of people spending most of their time in front of a computer for work end-up in their early 30s with regular back pain / neck pain / headache or whatever for instance. Same applies for sleep times and peak hours, it does change over time.Im curious about the performance dropping related to age in aoc career. Is it a thing?

He actually has won two S-tier tournaments in the last year (HC3 and Masters of Arena). Also a few other smaller tournaments along with a finals in World Cup. So even just counting the last year, Viper is still clearly #1.He won 0 S-tier tournament in 1 year, lierrey won 2, YO 1, DauT 1 and Hera 1.
if you remove champions league...The following are the tournaments which all of he top-4 have participated since 1st April 2020:
Viper Hera Liereyy Yo RMW1 2nd 3rd/4th 3rd/4th 1st Arabia Invitational 2nd 1st 3rd/4th 5th~8th RBW2 3rd/4th 2nd 1st 3rd/4th KOTD3 5th~8th 5th~8th 1st 3rd/4th Champions League 1st 3rd 2nd 4th RBW3 5th~8th 5th~8th 2nd 5th~8th HC4 3rd/4th 1st 5th~8th 3rd/4th
Liereyy is slightly ahead of Hera and Viper in major tournaments, but considering the snek have entered couple finals of other tournaments (including winning DMWC3 which is on par with RBW imo) as well as the little unfair setting of HC4, Ill still rank him #1 at this moment of time, even tho hes definitely not as dominant as he used to be.
The way you describe Hera was used for Viper...I think when Hera loses he still plays well - he's so resilient and tough to beat that even when he loses or plays "bad" he still drops a 7/10 performance and loses because his opponent played better. Also, his strategies are always really solid so he's always giving himself a chance in any game and never putting himself behind with civ picks or drafts. If you know that at best you're going to play to a 10/10 level and at worst a 7/10 level, it must give yourself so much confidence that over a 7-game set you will usually come out on top overall.
In terms of Viper, when he lost I felt his games were just weird. In his set vs Hera he either dropped a 10/10 performance and won or dropped a 5/10 and lost, and I think this has been the case with him for a while. I PERSONALLY came away from HC4 thinking that Viper still has the highest ability ceiling of any player in Aoe2 (only Viper could have won that game on Cross), he just doesn't have the consistency of Hera.
How can you say stuff like this when he almost singlehandedly gave Tatoh time to get to imp in the Coast to Mountain game? Don't overreact now.I am literally shocked how bad Viper plays. So passive, so undecisive, so bad.
He basically dies under 15 minutes when he gets pressured.
