Hello Friends.
I signed up for this tournament I think the first day it was announced.
I got up at 7:05 AM on a Saturday and successfully checked in during the one hour check-in period. I posted in the Discord thread as well, separately. Apparently top 128 were taken, then, first 128 to check-in(??).
I have two questions - What was the cutoff for the top 128?
My rating is 1698, nah, not world beating, but a top 2% player in the game -- and I'm fairly certain a lot higher rated than some of the folks in the bracket.
Second -- What is the thought process of taking the first "check-in's" during the hour? Is there no function where a higher rated player who complied with all of the rules, but simply wasn't pressing F5 at 1200 UTC and instead checked in successfully within the 1 hour window to still be included? Shouldn't someone who checked in at 1259 UTC still be a completely valid entry -- and if higher rated, should they not be seeded accordingly?
I know what you're thinking. IYIyTh, you're just complaining because you didn't get in. And yeah, you'd be right! But honestly I'm not sure it makes any sense. I know APM is a skill in AOE2, but, I'm not sure sign ups should be dictated by who f5'd fastest to check-in at 1200 UTC and not who correctly took time out of their day to check in during the check-in window, but was bumped because the 800 ELO guy clicked check-in first.
A bit unfortunate that this was how it was determined the brackets would be completed.
I believe some other top level folks are missing too -- just kind of questioning the point of all the hoops to register when it boils down to who F5'd at 1200 UTC the fastest to check-in during the one-hour check-in period.
Anyway I feel better now and am going to go back to bed.
