Why change? Why this early?
Implementing the most suggested improvements (more exciting game settings, less event length) and delivering an even better product for players and viewers was my motivation behind the changes.
Announcing the improvements and time and date this early will hopefully allow players to plan ahead and prepare, viewers to know what and when the next edition will happen and other tournament organizers to minimize potential clashes.
Time & Date
October 16 - December 18 2016 (9 weeks in total)
Sign ups will open two weeks before that
Tournament Format
64 spots, awarded to the people with highest seeding rate (see down below)
Bo4¹ Round Robin Group Stage (16 groups, 4 players, best 2 advance) -> http://challonge.com/moa4
- followed by Bo5 single elimination KO stage (32 players) with Bo7 grand final -> http://challonge.com/moa4/bracket
Seeding / Seeding Rating
Seeding rate: 70% current 1v1 rating, 30% highest 1v1 rating + 100/80/60/50/35/15 for Top-7 Masters of Arena tournament placings - 50 for dropping out / not scheduling in an earlier event
Seeding rate examples:
MbL:
2177 (1v1 rating) * 0.7 + 2335 (highest 1v1 rating) * 0.3 + 60 (P3 in MoA3) = 2284,4
Miguel:
2081 (1v1 rating) * 0.7 + 2324 (highest 1v1 rating) * 0.3 + 100 (P1 MoA1) + 40 (P5 MoA3) - 50 (drop-out MoA3) = 2243.9
Terror:
Ra: 2038 (1v1 rating) * 0.7 + 2335 (highest 1v1 rating) * 0.3 - 50 (drop-out MoA3) = 2077,1
Game Settings
MoA4 Group Stage (Bo4): Player picks the four civilization his opponent has to play; can't pick the same twice
MoA4 KO Stage (Bo5/Bo7): Each player bans two civilizations (order: higher seed, lower seed, higher seed, lower seed) for four in total that both can't pick. After that free, hidden pick for all 5 (7) games but no civilization twice.
If you want to visualize and/or experiment with the settings take a look at pip's great AoE Captains Mode. Both presets are available there and using his great tool makes the whole process extremely easy and nice to look at.
Streaming
Nothing changes from MoA3: Anybody is welcome to cast or analyze any game on any channel / medium. Being polite, friendly and not disturbing the players will allow you to become an "official streamer" that can't be kicked from game rooms.
If there are issues with official streamers, that privilege can and will be taken away.
Prize pool
We had great tournaments before with nothing but Voobly shields and a bit of premium time on the line, but if you want to be generous and donate any amount of money contact me via private message or post in this thread and you will get the payment details in returns. If you want to stay anonymous, create a fresh Voobly account to use for contacting me and send me a private message there (nickname swissboyy).
Donations are very much appreciated and might improve the level of competition but are not required.
Currently: 410 USD
List of Donators:
Membrillo + viewers - 285 USD
KubanDud3 - 100 USD
sinken - 15 USD
Tarzan - 10 USD
What are your thoughts and ideas? What do you hope / want to see in Masters of Arena 4?
