I want to have a look back, and discuss with the community, and hopefully make future tournament host do easier and more welcome job.
There are several important point list below, it's appreciate to have any feedback to make future tournament better.
1. Tournament Name
I'm sorry 11. I see "Men's Doubles" "Women's Doubles" in tennis and thought this is a widely used word.
But it's not, it turns out that lots of ppl confusing between Double Age Double Ages Doubles Ages...
If I had check this with some native English speaker this would be better
2. Nationality
Team Number | ML | ML top 4 | GL | GL top 16 | SL | Total |
Different Country | 4 | 3 | 12 | 8 | 3 | 19 |
Same Country | 4 | 1 | 20 | 8 | 6 | 30 |
3. Format
I want to distinguish 3rd and 4th, but in single elim some player/viewer is not interested in bronze match, so I decided to use this double elim format.
How big advantage the WB winner should have is always a question. Do you feel one HM more is good?
Play all 7 game may not be the best setting as well, some player says they are not motivate, some viewers claiming the "real" score is 4-2, etc
4. Map Pool
This part is pretty much decide by tournament host's flavor, but here is what I think
(a) Start from WC and ECL 2v2 maps, so they know or have prepared those
(b) Some standard land maps, some standard water maps, some standard no tc maps
(c) Variety is good, but too complex is not (or will be good if most teams spend time on preparing it)
"I feel" like TI or Chaos Pit is complex enough, like Cross I think is too complicated for 2v2
Rift island is in the map pool but no team pick it, maybe shows they don't like too complicated too.
5. "Map Ban" system
This is a new thing. Because map pool is set by me, I think teams should have chance to remove at least a map that they don't want to play (but not ban a map that opponent is strong, or ban a map to make no water map in the map pool). I think this worked out very well!
6. Sling
In World Cup I feel no nerf is too powerful
In DA (ECL sling nerf) I fell it's ok now (even having a very bad win rate 11)
I agree what swissboyy says in BoA that he don't like unofficial balance changes
and I also want players don't have to test and get used to new parameter, so I use the ECL one
I think sling is not a strategy that should be killed 100% as long as it's not OP (like the case in 3v3 4v4)
Sometimes you have a bad start (especially on no TC maps) I think sling is still an good option, or help your teammate to have some tech earlier (usually castle/imp age).
So I think 40% tax without coinage in 2v2 is good (but it's not good if 2v2 have different parameter to 3v3 4v4, that's another problem)
7. POV stream delay
I think the best situation is letting viewers can watch POV and casting at the same time, so I set the 1:00 delay to fit 1:30 spec delay in Voobly. But some team ask for longer spec delay this time. I think it would be better to write in rule that "If you want longer spec delay you have to inform admin earlier" so we can tell others POV stream delay earlier.
8. Casting fee formula
I spend some time to discuss formula with YT/douyu streamers, check their roughly income, to make the formula be the fairest. The result is:
YouTube: $x per 1k views of one month
Twitch: $2x per sub of one month
Other platforms: $400x
(I didn't consider mixer)
For example in DA x=0.15, so YT 0.15 per 1k view, Twitch $0.3 per sub
Other platform should be $60 but I'm not brave enough to ask douyu guys pay more than KotD2, so hold at $50 this time.
Thanks LidaKor for being the first tournament host that follow this system, and hope we have more tournament that is fair across all platform in the future.
