• Stormgate is free to play. Stormgate will never feature pay to win content or NFTs.
• Developed in Unreal Engine 5
• Two factions have already been announced: Humans and Infernals. There will be more than two factions in the full game.
• The developers have said the game will include 1v1 PvP, 3v3 PvP, Co-op vs. AI, and campaign (both solo and cooperative). Co-op mode supports 3 players. Game has build in tournaments system in-game for hosting and participating tournaments
• Stormgate will feature editor to let players create their own custom content to play with others.

I will be interested to see how they choose to monetize it. I'm guessing some combination of special items and skins, will be interesting to see how that fits into their "never pay to win" mantra

Overall, pretty hyped for it. It's right up my alley content wise and sounds like a good group of devs behind it

The setting seems fun, the stuff they have said is good but without actual gameplay it's impossible to know.

Graphical style kinda reminds me of bloons td 6 lol (not a good thing or a bad thing, i think it looks cool but kinda "light hearted" if that makes sense)

Crazy that the beta is in 2023, was expecting 2024 at the earliest. The first tournament will be insane since it's pretty much a guarantee that everyone will at least temporarily jump over. Viper vs Serral oh boy oh boy

For those interested, this is what I've seen/heard from devs regarding the esports side of the game:

Known:​

• Players will be able to jump into tournaments from in-game menus.
• There will be some sort of official tournaments from Frost Giant.
  • Unknown if that is from them as a company or by partnering with an organization.
• Third-party organizers will be able to host their own events.
• Players will receive in-game rewards for playing in-game tournaments (not just for winning them).
• There will be "esports seasons" that follow the content updates cycles. Might not be called that.
• Some esports events might be reflected in-game after the season is over.
  • Seems to be something like those marked spots in CS:GO for important moments.
• They want to create an ecosystem with a proper "path to pro" feel so the transition from playing some of the more casual content to the competitive one is easier. Lowering barriers basically.

Speculation / unconfirmed:​

• Being able to spec games using the game itself (like Dota).
• Observer tools are likely to be solid.
  • One of the original Obs makers in SC2 is heading that side of the game.
• Maybe top players will get special rewards for their efforts?
  • In Back2Warcraft's interview with monk this was floated by monk but there was no guarantee either way.

Always F2P. Purchase options should feel familiar to SC2 players. Think additional story missions, playable leaders for the 3p co-op mode, and cosmetics / army skins. No selling loot boxes. No Pay-to-Win.

As an aside, it's also a good look that they are ruling out a lot of the bad monetization options early.
It means they expect the core game to be so good that it will allow them to make enough money on legitimate content

Well sure, they could always be lying about everything. They could publish the game and it's just an 8-bit version of tic-tac-toe. But hypothesizing on whether they are lying isn't very useful

i see it more like a competition for sc2. maybe a good game.
i like more the team games, so if it is more like sc2, that basically is 1-1, not gonna play or watch.

Well sure, they could always be lying about everything. They could publish the game and it's just an 8-bit version of tic-tac-toe. But hypothesizing on whether they are lying isn't very useful

but there is a distribution of how likely they are to be entirely honest which varies based on the topic (and their answer) which we can reasonably try to estimate based on our knowledge of their aims and the environment

them lying about the genre of game: very unlikely, lying doesn't benefit them in any way I can imagine

them lying about unpopular forms of monetisation: quite a lot more likely, the benefit is avoiding bad press (or getting good press) at this early stage while maintaining the benefit of said monetisation methods at some point in the future, though has obvious downsides too

I would say making an informed judgement on the likely accuracy of each statement is an entirely reasonable thing to do when given basically any information from anyone

ok but like, what are we gaining? We have legitimately no information that points to them having a secret plan to lie about everything and implement unpopular monetization efforts in the future. We have, so far, lots of information and public statements that they won't implement shady monetization practices, and some decent information that they will implement widely accepted (not loved, but accepted) practices from a very well-known RTS title (SC2).

So if I had to make an informed judgement (12+ months from beta) as to the likely accuracy of each statement, I would say the chance of lying on monetization currently stands at a 2/10. Ok, now that we have moved on from that....

No reason to not hope it will be a good game, but I am not interested, the same as I am not interested in other futuristic or "fantasy" games like Warcraft, World of Warcraft, Starcraft, etc.

I have always almost exclusively been interested in games with real units (AoE, Anno, sports managers, tycoon games and such). Some games like Don't Starve or Rimworld, with some aspect of magic/fantasy creatures were fine to try, but I can't enjoy playing with "legions from hell", "undeads", etc.

The graphics look good for (pre-)alpha.

If only I were younger with a lot more time, I’d probably give it a shot. Only games I care for these days are Elder Scrolls 6, Diablo 4, next God of War, and FF Remake Part 2 (and however many come after). Maybe the next Assassin’s Creed too... hard to let go of some games.
