Usually yes, without fixed positions. Finland used to call a restart, just because TheMax didn't spawn as a pocket =)Were TG tournaments in the voobly times played without chosen team positions? Were the positions random?

This would maybe be true, if some classical archer flank civs had pick rates of 10% or higher (even considering that they will never be explicitely picked as pocket civs).winrate stats are useless in teamgames
every single non-random-civ game is a mirror match (or very close to it), so all those winrates will be near 50%
the only stat that indicates anything is the pick rate. and xbow-specialist civs have something close to 400% pick rate for 6 & 8 player games on ara-like maps with position-forcing. 4 out of 6 or 4 out of 8 players are forcing those civs and none others
yeah. it was all random positionsHonest question as I only started to play aoe2 with DE.

Max values for TG, ELO 1650+ (lul...) are:
(Franks 8.9%)
Britons 7.1%
Mayans 5.7%
Ethiopians 4.7%
With these numbers most of flanks match-ups will be outside your supposed "elite club", so win rates do matter.
Even though the counter system is well designed in AoE3, there are numerous dumb imbalances in the game which makes it anti-competitive compared to AoE2.

Yeah this is an all too common feeling when playing the game.because I'm fighting DE as much as my opponent
I agree with the first and last one but people who say spaghetti code are generally mocking DE rather than excusing it.In before "the devs are humans too," "spaghetti code!" "buy the second DLC before this is fixed."
Hey man no one said we can't nerf that too.Yes, let's increase the crossbows upgrade cost, indeed while we could nerf them even a little, the crossbows are so strong that just put together a dozen and the game is over, they do not require any kind of skill to be used, they don't required a properly micro, they don't require a much higher threshold of attention to avoid dying against the first mangonel that passes in that way or a properly eco management, instead we should keep encouraging people to play all in three stables + siege forward every game, just patrol and "gg oh my god look how strong i am"
