WSVG World Championship 2015- Unofficial Write UP |
Here is the write-up for the placement matches, and the finals between BacT and Yo, and RiuT and Yo, teh alst one especially a great game in my opinion. And the placement matches were attractive too, with some hilarious stuff from Lojza in Islands, and LoveCheng surprisign against JorDan. I plan to make on for the Grand Final before the end of the week, to finish up this write-up I've been doing for a few months soon.
Lojza - dogao
1-2
In the placement match for 7th and 8th spot in the tournament the two only non SY and TyRanT players, Lojza and dogao faced off. These games ended up playing out as a series between the two players usually played out. Dogao seemed always a step ahead in the first Aztec war in Dry Arabia, and Lojza was unable to seriously get the right hits in. With a slight advantage, dogao won the first game. However, Lojza surprised few by picking Arena as his home map, though picking Aztecs rather than Britons this time. Lojzas skills in Arena proved themselves once again, allowing him to equalize, and force a deciding game to determine the series. True to style, dogao picked Islands, in which Lojza had a very unlucky start to the Viking war. Lojza built a dock on a peninsula, accidentally trapping his villager by the dock and a relic on the narrow part of the peninsula. Lojza was forced to delete the villager, and by screwing up a boar lure afterward and losing another, the economic disadvantage spelled doom for Lojza: The game was seized by dogao, who thereby secured 7th place, while Lojza had to make do with the 8th spot, and pure defeats in the tournament.
JorDan_23 - LoveCheng
1-2
The battle for 5th place featured JorDan, who had lost to RiuT and BacT, and tournament surprise LoveCheng, coming off a loss against TheViper and Yo. LoveCheng had been advantageous in Dry Arabia so far, but not this time – JorDan got off to a better start, and by winning the micro wars in castle Age, secured himself an advantage, and the game. LoveCheng picked Double Arabia, as he had done earlier in the tournament, and once again acquired an advantage in this map. The creation of strong knights by LoveCheng allowed him to swarm JorDans base earlier and stronger, and secure an equalizer. In the deciding home map of JorDan in Team Islands, LoveCheng surprised again however. JorDan proved incapable of picking the right fights at the right times, and surprisingly, the advantage and the game went in favor of LoveCheng, securing him fifth spot in the tournament, while JorDan finished his potentially last 1v1 tournament in a somewhat disappointing 6th place.
BacT - Yo
0-2
In the first final of the Losers Bracket, BacT and Yo faced each other, to see who would face RiuT in the constellation final. In the Dry Arabia game, early aggression proved decisive, as both players stole each others boars, putting things equal. BacT this time favored an aggressive style with a risky tower rush, but he was not in luck. Yo managed to stay on the offensive, and by picking off several of BacT's lumberjack villagers, gained an economic advantage that he refused to let slip, securing Yo the first game. BacT picked Rooster as a home map, perhaps surprisingly, and it hardly paid off for the Vietnamese player. Yo pulled ahead on water early on, forcing BacT to try and built a navy on the outside of the base. However, Yo did no make the mistakes necessary for such a strategy to pay off, and simply steamrolled BacT, to secure a 2-0 victory. BacT had to make do with 4th place in the tournament, also a satisfying result for him however, while Yo got his chance at revenge against RiuT.
Yo - RiuT
3-2
The consolation final between Yo and RiuT would be a Bo5 series, and it did live up to expectations as an amazing game. In an intense Dry Arabia with very strong play by both players, RiuT gained the military advantage as Yo pulled ahead in economy. In the end, elite eagles took over everything, and in a face-off where ungodly micro and macro would prove decisive, RiuT had the small edge needed to end with more eagle warriors, and won game one. Yo picked a Mayans war in Ghost Lake, in what proved another close game. Despite RiuT stealing a boar early on, Yo went forward, and a back and forth aggression slowly tipped the game in favor of Yo, who managed to secure an equalizer. However, RiuT had a clear plan to pick water maps and win his two home maps, and started off by picking Rooster. With RiuT early on securing water, Yo was forced to repeat his strategy against dogao earlier in the tournament, and go aggressive on land. However, RiuT went aggressive too, and with more efficiency and water control, he slowly took more and more control of the game, and one to pull ahead 2-1.
Yo decided to trust his relationship with the Goddess of map generation, and picked Nomad as his second home map. Yo had the advantage, because RiuT had used his re in the Dry Arabia game. As RiuT got a very bad start, with barely any resources but wood, control was played firmly in the hands of Yo. As he held against the desperate early aggression from RiuT, Yo slowly took more and more control of game, and managed to put the score at 2-2. However, RiuT was the favorite going into the last game, as he picked Baltic, and water generally favored him. However, had the Goddess of map generation been evil to RiuT in Nomad, she was outright cruel in Baltic. RiuT started next to a river with no big fish, and docked there without seeing the main sea. With Yo coming off to a much better start, RiuT impressed by managing to gain the advantage in early Feudal through superior micro anyway. RiuT pulled ahead in water, but as Yo's stronger economy let him reach Castle Age first, Yo took the advantage again. RiuT picked a single bad fight, which destroyed his entire navy, and decided the game: Yo overcame RiuT on his home turf, and was ready for a final against TheViper, while RiuT had to settle for third place, owing to Yo's skill and unlucky map generation two maps in a row.
