Announcement​

Age of Empires II is still alive, well and good - and with the Holiday Season upon us, what better gift could we ask for than another Age of Empires II event. We are particularly excited to start the New Year with a wrang of a tournament - Wrang of Fire III hosted by grathwrang.
Wrang of Fire III is a 1v1v1 tournament that will span across three weeks and will feature a fantastic twist on old map favourites with a new and refreshing format.

Due to the nature of the tournament settings, we can already guarantee that the games will be absolutely incredible, chaotic and unpredictable. No game will be the same as players will be forced to split their attention across two opponents, with the potential for back stabbing, colluding and more, and with spec chat operational, we'll be able to see all of the in-game negotiations.

In addition to an open qualifying round, the tournament will feature one massive single-elimination stage, holding up to 81 players. This means that every game, every minute and second, will matter for the players as one mistake can be the difference between advancing or elimination.

Qualifiers + Round of 81, Best of One​

• Played between Sunday the 2nd of January to Sunday the 9th of January

Round of 27, Best of Four (first to two wins)​

• Played between Monday the 10th of January to Saturday the 15th of January

Round of 9, Semi-Finals, Best of Four (first to two wins)​

• Played between Sunday the 16th of January to Friday the 21st of January

Round of 3, Grand Final, Best of Seven (first to 3 wins)​

• Played January 22nd beginning at 10.00GMT

Prize Pool​

The total prize pool of the tournament is $2,000.00USD (may be more with additional donations/sponsorships) and is distributed to the winners as listed below.

1st place: $1500.69 USD
2nd + 3rd place: $750 USD
4th to 9th place: $200 USD

There may be additional prizes for entrants TBA.

The official list of maps is shown below. In multi-game sets, Arabia will be game 1, and for subsequent games, the winner of the previous game will select the map, with no repeats. For single game sets, the map will be determined ahead of time randomly.

Last year, after his racist comments against Tim (Chinese) and LobodeLaNieve (Mexican), he made a statement:

Some hours ago, I had the unfortunate message that I was uninvited to an upcoming unannounced event for my sayings against Tim. I am really sad about this, because it feels like even If i did wrong, I am getting a bit overpunished. People that know me, know that even though I did some bad stuff, this has been an attack against me from people that don't like me and since I'm quite "new" in the community, I get punished big time.

I've done some research online and found out that some other pro players have been in this place before and even made bad jokes on stream and nothing happened (or maybe just a little bit of drama), but they didn't get uninvited from a tournament. There's a ton of stuff online and I don't want to give any names just so I don't involve them here which they have nothing to do.

So, my question to the community is, what type of community is the AoE community?
Do "new" people get punished for a mistake? There is no second chance?

People don't change. They try to blend in since there is money to get, but they don't fool anyone.

Anyway, I hope you don't take his comments into account, it's great to see different tournament concepts!

What is that logic? Just because someone else was breaking the rules Aswell because he didn’t read them either claiming that those rules are **** and shouldn’t be followed. And the third guy who didn’t read them either (or maybe he did and didn’t say because he wanted that you get disqualified) … he did nothing wrong and should still adopt your shitty opinion.

What do you expect, when such behaviour is encouraged over the years. When even players like mbl and larry dont prepare for tournaments, dont practice maps, dont even know the ban and pick rules, casters who like them just laugh about it, so it all results as a hilarious joke and not as a bad behaviour.

Capoch decided to flame the tournament organisers and his opponents here, for whatever reason, hence we are reacting to him in the place where he made his comments.

Yeah remember you're only allowed to insult pro players for being unprofessional, never casters or tournament organizers.

 

Capoch has a little whine and cry whenever he gets knocked out of a tournament, it's always someone else's fault. Grathwrang has put on a great tournament and should be applauded for it.

I feel wrang of fire is being judged for something it isn't. I consider it more of a meme tournament than an e-sport competition and will hence focus my criticism on this basis.

Yes this is true, I wasn't thinking of grath in particular when I said that. And it doesn't seem like he really did anything wrong anyways.

Indeed - @MembTV was co-casting one of the semis and he had it dead right...if you can raise 5k USD from the community for a tourney you need some RESPECT! I played the RO81; my elo is probably 7xx. With the 16xx other player I was able to properly play with a 2xxx. There's incredible skill in a 2k player facing two 16xx s as many of the pros have found. And now we're reaching the end of the tournament with multiple 2ks fighting it out amongst themselves to get to play the 16xx who is already in. yeah, it's a new meta...but it's a serious tournament with great gameplay

 

I'm trying to set up some last second showmatches with the WoF3 format limited to 2k+ elo, so if anyone is interested in participating in those over the next few days, in particular tomorrow, you can shoot me a DM.
