ITS BACK! The most competitive FFA tournament in any RTS and the only high tier professional tournament that YOU could actually win! 'Wrang of Fire 4' is an open elo 1 vs 1 vs 1 Free For All tournament hosted by me, Grathwrang! Plus, this year, for the first time in the tournament's history, players will also have to worry about an ungarrisonable King. If a player loses their King they are automatically defeated. There will be no Relic or Wonder victory as in the previous rendition. Standard resources to start, kings will take up no population space, and there will be no starting castle or tower.
My personal hope is that having a snipable king will mean that once a player is defeated, they wont be able to sneakily reboom and stretch games out infinitely, giving high elo players a better chance of winning in a 2v1. Of course my true hope is that we get a double Kingsnipe from a low elo player vs two high elo players but I'll take what I can get
Wrang of Fire champions, finalists and semi-finalists have had a wide elo range; WoF2 was won by a top 20 pro player Modri, and WoF3 was won by a 14-16xx elo player Trundo, while 5/9 semi-finalists last year were 2k+, all 3 finalists were under 1700 elo, with our reigning champion Trundo being just 14xx at the time. YOU could win an A tier aoe2 tournament!
In past tournaments there has been "drama" with players being on discord voice chat and 2v1ing others, forming pacts ahead of time, and even intentionally throwing games, or intentionally eliminating each other out of spite, leaving a worse player to move on. This format has seen it all and it's all a part of what makes it so wildly entertaining. If you choose to enter into this tournament, do so with the knowledge that players will do anything they can to win; if that means you get unfairly 2v1'd by a pair of players on voice chat or a 900 elo player betrays the other 900 elo player while simultaneously sniping your King THEN THAT'S HOW IT IS.
The reality is this is all nearly impossible to police, and it's much easier and more entertaining not to. Do not come into this tournament expecting to be treated with respect simply for having a high elo. This is likely the only chance many lower elo players will ever have of playing high elo players, or winning a high tier AoE2 tournament; and it CAN HAPPEN (see: Trundo) so my advice is treat ALL participants with respect. No cheating within the game itself, or abusing glitches or bugs, or any IRL shenanigans. Sportsmanship in communicating between the players and in co-operating in setting the match times is expected at all times.
Qualifiers will take place beginning on Saturday January 14th and all Qualifier games must be completed by 23:59 GMT Sunday January 22nd. The round of 81 begins on Saturday January 21st. All games leading up to the semi-finals must be completed by 23:59 GMT Friday February 3rd. The Semi Finals will take place on Saturday February 11th 10:00 GMT, and The Finals will take place Sunday February 12th 10:00 GMT. Players who are unavailable for these dates should not sign up.
THANKS AND GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
