Will Viper win a single set at NC4?

I've gotta say, I'm fairly surprised with The Snake's performance at NC4. After grinding AoE4 for the last 10 days or so, I figured he would be in better shape.
At the moment he is 0-3 and in last place of the 8 contenders. Looking a bit rough for the GOAT to make it into the semifinals
I hope he gets brought on as a guest caster if he gets eliminated early

It's really a testament to how tough it is to maintain top 10 form in 2 different games (even somewhat similar ones).
I think Viper is undisputably the #1 in AoE2 at the moment, and that has cost him being competitive in the top 8 in AoE4

Viper becoming pro in 10 days of practice sounds like @Tiascai becoming pro in 6 months. Literally impossible. I think viper should have invested more time into this if he really wanted to win the sets.

That's why you hire future tournament coordinator as your teammate to #1 team, although he is not even top 50. Ba dum tsss.

Not sure a top 400 player (or top40 in AOE2) can decide someone is very top or not.

When they signed him he was definetely out of 50 in AOE2 in my opinion. But is 40 and 50 that different? I think after 15-20, most players are similar for top 100.

Well he did win a major AoE4 tournament at one point, so it wasn't like he was starting from zero. He took about a month off from the game and during that month the competition advanced so much that he isn't really in top 8 form anymore

I don't really understand why 5 rounds of swiss when you have 8 players. After 3 rounds already it starts not making sense, Mlord should already be in and Viper should already be out; letting them play more risks twisting the results.

Hopefully there is no ugly tie between 6th and 7th at the end of round 5...

I was wondering the same yesterday. Why Viper was still in after 3 losses and ML didn't advance after 3 wins.

My only guess is that this format is chosen to have more games to cast.

MLord was in with 3-0, but not necessarily top 2 (AKA straight to the semis).

Yes. And to have "quarterfinals".
A more harmonic way would have been to have only top4 advancing from the swiss stage; then you can just stop playing with either three wins or three losses.
But they wanted to play 20 sets of games to eliminate 2 players. Which is kind of a ridiculous ratio.

NAC: 6 in group stage, 5 rounds, top 5 advance.
NAC2: 8 in group stage, 5 rounds, top 2 advance to semis, 3~6 to quarters
NAC3: 9 in group stage, 5 rounds, top 2 advance to semis, 3~6 to quarters
N4C: 8 in group stage, 5 rounds, top 2 advance to semis, 3~6 to quarters

Honestly, I dont see a huge difference. Sure he could have made a better set of rules, but why was it not that big of a deal back then?

Afaik this Swiss system introduced during NAC3, when Hera joined tournament at last minute, initially they were planning other format. It was because of odd player numbers, so all those complaints are actually goes back to NAC3. I remember it was discussed a lot on those days though, and if I remember well, because of that Villese (or Max) had a very unfortunate draws which created some drama (too lazy to check now)

1) Hera rejoining after declining the invite
2) Rules changed during group stage

And have nothing to do with the "ridiculous ratio" thingy iirc

I also thought back then, that the ratio was ridiculous 11
But in NAC3 there were faaar bigger problems with the group stage rules.
I don't remember the first two editions, though.
