AOE-II why i am stuck on 15xx??

i have been playing aoe for last 1 yr.
i used to play 1v1 huns. i win some games and loose many.
loosing big points makes me disappointing.
i earn points very rarely. and loose them easily. i am 15xx.
i know all the basics stuff..watch all the recs of top players..MOH, BCC-2, BCC-3 and hundreds of chris and daut game.
i know what to do. i have my own hotkeys and think they r quite good.

but i m still stuck on 15xx. i dont know why i dont win more games. i dont know what to do.

loosing points so much hurts a lot...so i have started playing 4v4 TG..and its fun.

but the big Q is what is 15xx need do to to get to 17xx and 18xx??

I don`t wanna sound bad, but first, you shouldn`t care about points that much. The more you care, the more nervous you are while playing, and the less chances you have to actually win and get points. So relax, and play for fun, for a competition, trying to outsmart your opponent. The second thing is practice, nothing epochal there. Play as much as you can, and you`ll get better and better. It is also very important that you analyze your lost games, to see why did you lost, and to prevent those mistakes from happening again. The less mistakes you make, the better you`ll be. You can play 10000+ games, if you don`t learn anything from your defeats it`s pointless.

And not to forget, it is a 10+ years old game after all There are many people online knowing all the tips and tricks by heart, never mind that they have ~1600 rating. The more players know, the less the difference shall be among rating levels, and harder to improve your rating. I guess the most crucial thing is determination and practice (with analyzing your own games for mistakes).

Not to think that I`m an expert player - I`m 1500, too, but not because I don`t know what I should do, just that I don`t have so much time to practice and improve myself, I find some other things more important now, while I enjoy the game as much as I can. I know the theory, but getting familiar with the real playing practice is a different thing. If you want to become a top player, you have to give something in return - your devotion and free time. The more you give, the more you get, like everything in life.

well i think he means 17xx skill 15xx skill etc...its just a reference to skill level.

yodha ive played with u as my pocket b4 in 17+ game , u didnt play bad but in that game u went hard kts and ur eco in imp was like 2 tcs...so in other words u gotta focus on maintaining eco while raiding and pumping army.

as far as improvement goes, if u watch recs, use hotkeys, and have a decent understanding of the game, the way ull get better is only by experience and practice... ive replied to many posts just like this in the past and i can go on and on....but basically at this point u have to just want to get better, continue to watch recs and ask urself WHY an expert does something..maybe compare his game style and thought process to yours.

a big thing players these days miss is alot are just copying from what they see in recs, thats good to an extent but the beuty of aoc is that every game is going to have different situations which means different decisions and actions...aka

Hey my friend I dont wanna sound bad, (as Buga said^^), but for real 1700, I am afraid, is needed more than 1 year. I can confirm that is most important to analize ur own recs, and recs from top players.

I can give u one tip which in my oppinion great way to learn faster- focus for a while on 1v1 games. U can organize mini tournament with ur friends, like 15-20 players. And before tournament starts, and while tournament longs, for 1-2 week, get some serious practice and analizes of ur, and ur friends recs, u can find from before and recs which gonna have made on tour.

I think also, most important thing is realize micros and trick from recs of top players- see WHY do they do particularly micro and WHY they made that particularly decision. And after, HOW to do that in own game, its more a bit matter of practice and expirience, which u gonna surely get. I beleve, practice is easier taks. First and hardest is- we need to realise mistakes and things which we didnt know before. And advance in another way of top players thinking we didnt already realise. And, after we enlarge our playing knowledge, will be much easier taks to get practice it and make that as another resource of our strategies

But after all, enjoy in game and have fun^^ is most important. Gl

well some1 here wrote that to get 17++ u need more than one year,i cant agree to that. well i play this game online about 1 year, started on hamachi ( i think u was playing on hamachi too), then gameranger and then when i start to study i was able to play voobly (in late 2009 sepetember) and i was kidan disapointed about myself i was stuck to 1650 rate just like u are stuck (i toght i will get 1700 very easy), i was playing hun war 1v1, loosing winning nothing special, but then i changed my game to aztecs, and i get 1880 in like 6 weaks, and after that i was able to play huns and kill even 19++, 2k players with them. i'm not saying that u need to change civ or anything its jsut my way how i get 18++ in short time.
one good way how to get 1700, in my opinion, is improve ur army micro. cause if u have very good micro u can kill better eco and overall better player, adn u can do it in very short time, in like 20 minutes i think (dunno if it made any sense to u 11). and when u wathc recs, study them not only watch, why they made building there, why taht uprgade right now to understand the game not only copy the thing. but i think if u improve ur army micro u can get over 15++ easy.

USE YOUR HEAD WHEN YOU PLAY

This is the most important thing. There are some days when I play like 1800 and others where I'm closer to 1500, all depending on how much I'm concentrating. I know the game better than 99% of players, yet I still suck ass because I am too lazy to focus on what I am doing. Most of the time when I make a mistake, I know that I did it yet don't try to fix it.

I think these are the three main reasons why I still suck, they're mostly small things that are due to laziness.

1. I don't like to do more than one thing at once. If you can't multitask in aoc, you'll forever be ****.
2. I don't check my resources often enough. I should probably check them after each vil is built, then try to balance the eco, I just can't be bothered though.
3. I don't play enough. In about ten years of aoc, I'd be lucky to have played more than 400 games.

I play the aoc for 2 years. I have watched so many recs of the master players. However I am stuck in 16++ rating 11. Daut plays this game for so many years. Probably he is the god of the aoc, but that is just not enough. He lost to Riut 5-2 in BCC3 which is quite decisive. Then he also won Tim, who is the leader of the rm ladder in voobly currently. That boy is quite young (16 yrs if I am not mistaken), that means he is very fresh and his reactions are very quick (almost instantenous I can say). In short, I say practice a lot to gain speed. ( like in us saying, you are either fast or dead). Scout ur enemy well, know what is he doing and make ur strat accordingly.

ROFL at the 16xx noob who changed to aztek11 dont listen to him man wall's and lame make ur rate higher sure but u'll still be just a fck rook.. try doing as less walls as possible and only winning by good macro. if u have rox macro u only need average army micro and there u go 19++ easy.. make sure your eco is perfect and u can learn how to do good micro with army later.. watch daut recs - he always gets outmicroed but his macro and best choice of strategy make him best. An 18xx with real skill 1600 will always tell u: "dont care about eco just make sure u kill as much as possible with ur army, and try to wall if u can".. thats how they get 18xx and wont ever get better and even so without walls saving their ass and some other lame stuff they're just sux 16xx.. best way to improve is try wall and lame as less as possible and try survive as long as possibe, then when u get better u can reach +150~points with walling and laming without even changing ur skill level

(for using huns)

it does wonder's to ur skill if u try to defend with ur army and just few "smart" walls or none and while u r attacking still focusing on your eco and not microing so much.. ofcourse u should also know in any part of the game what ur enemy is doing and how will u reply to his moves.. means good scouting and knowing counter strategy

some players see enemy is walled and start walling.. its ok but its borring:@ u can try ~3-4 scouts maybe find one of his wallers and if u dont just use them for scouting.. and fc.. u get 19-20min castle go 3 archery CA and boom, he will prolly just mass archers which u can easily counter defend with 1 mangonel while killing his eco with CA, the most dificult part is to defend when he comes to your base around same time as u castle/castling with scouts and archers so maybe make a smart tower / wall..and dont be afraid of using villagers to fight army but make sure u micro the one being hurt. also depends on map if gold = front u will get ****ed with this strategy, but if gold/wood back its ok

so many different things u can do... also if back gold u can drush him since he cant tower it or if front gold u can drush and and then agressive feudal.. so many strategy and so much importance of the map for which strategy u will use

vs aztek player people get ****ed by elite eagle casue everyone using CA boom and aztek is hard to defend vs in imp
u should use CA boom with mangonel to defend vs xbow while he is booming, but u shouldnt let him imp. After 3 tc mini go 5 stable full kts and ram push lets see how he defend that with xbow. he will add monks and pikes and still try boom and imp but u have combo of full up kts and full up CA which aztek just die easily vs. Dont let a boom waller go boom. huns is better then aztek in castle and feudal so that is the time when u should kill him. if he imp without u killing him it wont end well

i was comparing micro of experts 2k++ players many have better micro of daut and comparing to them daut has average micro

my point here is that not only army micro is skill (like someone sayed before), becasue i feel it is overated these days, but ofcourse it is important, some win with sux eco and rox army micro, some win the other way around... but 100% it is easyer to advance to higher level's if u r stuck at one point with sux microing then stuck somwhere with perfect micro

so my tip to this 15xx guy is to try to improve other things then just army micro to advance:
-scout enemy, scout ur map, know where his army is and what his plan is
-do strategy that map is good for (ur's and enemy's), dont do same strat all the time
-dont do full walls, casue u wont get real skill form it (besides its sux for eco- wood+vils building it)
-make eco/army according to your later plan (long term relationship thinking)
-change your plan according to enemy moves
-use your head

I share oppinion with _ratS, I cant say Daut has a averge micro, cuz its for sure one of top micros. But I noticed Riut has, lets say, +10% more micro than Daut. Its just my personal impression by watching recs of both players. In the other hand, my another impression is that Daut plays 10% smarter than his opponent in most matches. And evern some micros of some particulary situations could get praticed to the perfect, in overview ,I beleve that smarter playing still has bigger adventige then mehcanical skill. Well, its a thing which should cheer up 15++ players, I hope :lol:
