Who / what do I attack?

So I am playing 1v1 vs the computer and watching T90's videos.
In the dark and feudal ages, I build up some troops and go attack his base. I attack the military units I can find. THen I attack his civilians. But they run inside garrisons. At that point, I don't know what to attack?
I make sure to stay out of range of the TC.
I usually just tell them to first get into staggered formation.
Then second, to "attack move" towards a point somewhere in their base.

And then I let them go and go back to my base, economy, more soldiers, etc.

Specific advice or just "go watch a specific video" would be appreciated.

PS I was feeling brave and ventured into a 4v4 newbie game on the server and won my first match. There were 4 players who were clearly better than me. They had scores around 20K, but my score was about 10K and I did the job I had to do. I held up my flank and their army didn't break thru. I was lucky and against one of the weakest players, but still, I was happy to contribute.

You do not have to attack constantly, if you gain the eco lead you can go back with the army and just return later for instance with castle age siege that allows you to raze the defensiv buildings of the enemy.

If you get him to garrison, his villagers are not working which is almost as good as if they were dead. Try to keep them not working without loosing your army nor your eco at the same time

THen I attack his civilians. But they run inside garrisons.

I usually go from one resource to other. So if you attack his woodline and he garrisons the lumberjacks, you can move to gold and he will have to garrison those vills. Then you move to berries and force him to garrison those vills. And then you return to woodline.
At lower elos, players will also struggle with multitasking and so they will leave all those vills garrisoned for too long, and then you make them garrison again and his entire eco will be ****.

Obviously, you need to watch out for counter attacks and to not lose your army. If your opponent starts massing counter units, finishes full walls, build defensive tower etc. you can retreat and wait until castle age like skinny said (and you should reach the castle age faster now with his eco being harassed all the time).
