Question: What are the consequences of breaking the no-lame rule?

To sit in a room with RicoJay and try to convince him why trading is a must in a 4v4 team game.

Now on a serious note, I really don't want this rule to be the cause of any confusion. Like I said, we never had a problem with it during the TEL series a couple of years ago.

And once more I reiterate that if players are uncomfortable with it and Robo agrees, I would have no problem in getting rid of it!

laming is a skill and I feel it should be allowed.

I generally agree with this but having a tournament like this is also okay where you try to eliminate the risk of games that are already somewhat decided in dark age because of laming. In this case, it means skills in other areas will matter a bit more.

I love everything about this, except perhaps the no-lame rule; laming is a skill and I feel it should be allowed. I guess you could ban laming golds and so on but not stealing boar/sheep. But in every other regard, this is perfect: the correct number of players, the correct set of players, the correct settings, and the correct way to determine #2.

you dont really need any skill to lame other than some basic multitask in dark age..

To lame freely, yes. But when the laming is intercepted, not at all. The player with the highest multitasking skill should "win" and f**k up the least at home. Like Daut would loose 2 vills at home, but the 2nd best player in the world should be able to "out-multitask" the rest of the other players. Knowing the other guy may lame you, you could decide the get the furthest boar faster or even both, which implies an improvised build order. So it adds complexity to the game and forces players to adapt. Also you have to know how to intercept a laming in a given circumstance: kill the lamer scout, block the boar, block the scout, or actually decide to let it go, or even counter lame. Not to mention laming boars even influences civ drafting, you could choose mezzo civs or mongols just for this.

Laming is part of the aoe2 meta, just like water maps. Even though one may not like them, it's still part of the game.

Hey man, I understand your frustration, especially because you have improved so much lately.

But in order to keep this highly competitive and to have it finished within a weekend, 4 players is the absolute maximum we could go for.

I have absolutely no doubt the likes of you, Max, Daut and others I might be forgetting, would be extremely competitive especially in a tournament with these settings. But we had to make the cut somewhere...

And by the way this is not the last time I'll be sponsoring such a tournament!

So please keep grinding my man and soon enough you might be left out of these tournaments again...because you'll be the clear number 1!

There's nothing "arbitrary" about inviting these guys. I guess anyone who has been following the "pro" scene knows these 4 players are all top contenders for the first place in any 1v1 tournament. There are certainly others too.

As for the name...Don't even know why that got you so worked up, but I think it's pretty obvious to everyone this is not the tournament that will definitely and decisively decide who's the number 2. It's a rather low-stakes tournament for today's standards and obviously there's more players than just these 4 that could fight for it.

Anyway, props to Robo, as I find that "who's the #2" has a very nice ring to it!

as i explained before im not offended by the tournament name itself; it had to do more with the arbitrary decision of including the players, but i have to agree that Michaerbse's info on this looks pretty non-arbitrary, problem solved
