for me defending is easier, just make some walls/towers, use hills and set ur army in good positions to prevent atacks ( spears on woods, archers on hills.. and etc ) and i can also be managing my eco much better when i'm defending instead of atacking
Defending is easier due to having your buildings closer, meaning you can reinforce faster aswell as you have a positional advantage most of the time with a few walls and camping hills.
If you're attacking you most times need atleast 20% more army to make it hurt, you also have to spend more resources as the attacking one.
I think it has a lot to do with skill level. More of the better players will probably tell you defense, but I, personally, believe most players around my rate will say offense is an easier position. I notice that, in most of the games I play (1v1 or tg), it is the player/team in offense in feudal who ends up winning the game. This is just from personal experience, but I feel that many players around my level would agree. I believe it is simply that we do not have the game knowledge yet to know exactly HOW to defend and take advantage of the battles' proximity to our bases. In the recs/streams I watch of more skilled players, I tend to see a lot more comebacks. Changing the game is somewhat common and, in many cases, even to be expected. This does not happen nearly as often in the games I, and those around my rate, play. There are always exceptions, but it should be clear that I am speaking generally. Again, I believe it is as simple as not knowing the counters, situational strategies, etc... And the lack of actual EXPERIENCE in that which we DO know... that makes it this way.
I prefer offense by far! But I'm the sort of player who can get really caught up in it, and lose my eye on the bigger picture (or just forget about those 4 hunters)
I'm average at defense, but a decent attacker
and well I guess playing a ton of DM may have something to do with that :P
For me, offense is easier, provided that I do not invest too much time on army micro (and result in me raiding my own eco accidentally lol).
Whenever I get attacked I am almost always unprepared, even when against a side raid.
In later game, when 2 huge safe ecos stream against each other, one of the keys is the "length of supply lines", as mentioned before. You need lots of forward military buildings if you wish to push closer to enemy base. Other times you may want to lure him away, lengthening his lines and compacting your army, but the point in this case is to take a temporary advandage and counterattack before he claims this newly acquired ground with raxes, stables etc.
