Which game do you think will have a larger player base in 1 year?

It depends on who has the worst devs, Relic or FE. As much as we make fun of Relic, let's be honest for a moment, FE are ****. They have time and again proved they work at snail's pace, reacting after 6months, zero communication. If the major problems like TGs, ranked lobbies for all game modes, in-game map voting, better map pool, eliminating smurfs and TG elo inflation, pathing, TG balance etc are fixed AoE2 will have better numbers for sure. But, as you can see the list of major problems is long, and AoE4 has the adv of being the new kid in the block and a biased tournament coordinator.

I hope it is AoE2, but fear it will be AoE4 even thou the game would still be ****.

And you expect AoE to get a Definitive Edition in this year?
Just stating that the conclusion from "AoE2 has more players today than it did 5 years ago" because of the Release of the DE, has nothing to do with normal Patches/Fixes and the likes of it.

Not a definitive edition, but I'm absolutely expecting DLC/an expansion of sorts that would give Relic a second chance at convincing temporarily returning players they have a better product worth sticking around for.

They messed up AOE4, game was just too bad at launch. Even if they slooooowly patch it to be "good" i don't think there will suddenly be a big spike in new/returning players.

And i don't think it'll have the quality to ever have the long-term growth we've seen with AOE2 over the year.

I might be wrong, but i wouldn't be surprised if 4 keeps losing players/viewers over the next weeks/months even with 100k tournament and then it'll be even harder to catch up.

I tried it and did not have that impression. No building walling is nice and the landscapes can be decent to look at but the zoom limit alone makes it unplayable, not to mention things like the ugly UI, inconsistent unit/building scaling, oversaturated colors, mobile game unit animations, questionable sound design, lack of properly customizable hotkeys, obstrusive cursor effects, and general absence of polish.

How does it matter? It seems like d**k measuring poll/experiment.
Its clear that majority of Aoe2 Players/viewers dont like Aoe4 (myself included).

Just move on, dont buy game, dont watch the game, dont follow it.
Beyond that these dime-a-dozen threads evoke nothing more than preaching to the choir.

I think it will be Aoe2, but honestly I dont care.
Aoe2 has survived very lean periods and I'm sure the small community will move on.

I think Age of Empires: Mythologies (2008) (Nintendo DS) for some unforseeable reason is going to explode in fan and player base - surpassing all other games in the franchise.
