What type of community is the AoE community?

Hey guys,

Due to the stuff that happened in one of my recent streams, I wanted to clear the air and post my thoughts and my sincere apology in a new thread so there are no hard feelings in the future. I don't usually have problems with people or anyone in the community (or any gaming/online community in the past) and those are not by any chance my intentions.

First of all, I'd like to apology to Tim and the entire chinese community, for raging in a game against him and making a really bad joke against him. I've tried reaching out to him so we could speak and apologize directly but had no luck yet. @Tim_

Second, I'd like to say sorry to Lobo, in the heat of the game, there were a lot of decision and moves he made that were really weird, which from my POV, looked a bit suspicious and considering the history of some top players of his country, I was wrong in inmediately calling him a cheater. I should know better but I was clearly having a bad day. I'd like to play him again in the future so there are no hard feelings.

I've already taken actions against my behavior to minimize the bad words and make my stream channel a better place.

Some hours ago, I had the unfortunate message that I was uninvited to an upcoming unannounced event for my sayings against Tim. I am really sad about this, because it feels like even If i did wrong, I am getting a bit overpunished. People that know me, know that even though I did some bad stuff, this has been an attack against me from people that don't like me and since I'm quite "new" in the community, I get punished big time.

I've done some research online and found out that some other pro players have been in this place before and even made bad jokes on stream and nothing happened (or maybe just a little bit of drama), but they didn't get uninvited from a tournament. There's a ton of stuff online and I don't want to give any names just so I don't involve them here which they have nothing to do.

So, my question to the community is, what type of community is the AoE community?
Do "new" people get punished for a mistake? There is no second chance?

These are my thoughts right now, and I'm really sorry for what has happened and what is happening.

As a mere peasant, after seeing the two clips, it feels adequate . This community is forgiving though, don't worry about that if you're really sincere about your apologies.

Going through an episode of drama is like a rite of passage in aoezone . Now that you've gone through one you can look forward and enjoy the calmer waters.

I think the community is good and generous. No need to feel anxious about that.

I actually don't think it's about Tim personally. I mean, it's not the first time that we saw players mocking each other for sticking with certain maps or civs. Maybe it's the broad generalization of a whole nation/race, e.g. Mexico / China / Asia in a public channel, that offends a larger group.

Just my 2 cents.

With many players streaming now, it is easier to get caught, watched and punished. In the last 8 years, the only good players I remember which kind of were not forgiven were Ertug and Emin, but that's a different level. I don't remember anyone being banned from a tournament for something else than cheating or account sharing. I did not follow the situation more in detail, but I am pretty sure with time people will not make a big deal of it anymore if you are regretful and change your behavior.

i think capoch deserves a second chance really , anyone could have made some bad taste joke on the heat of a stressing situation .
also it's literally his first time commiting any kind of violation so i say give him a second chance .
and let us plz not make the CANCEL culture a thing in AOE . you have seen what that **** did in other platforms .

Getting uninvited from a 100k tourney is already a really hard punishment... Hopefully Mr Yo, Tim and Sponsor can have a chat with Capoch and revise that decision

I appreciate your apology and with all the changes to your stream you did it seems really honest to me (btw i don’t think you have to give up on Spanish streams. If streaming on Spanish might lead to some more emotional expressions maybe stop it for a while to get used to some more thought over language and once you are used to that get back to add in some Spanish streams if that is what you want to do)

regarding the ban for one tournament I would say it is a harsh punishment, but as long as it is only for this one tournament I would say that it is acceptable. If it would be a perma ban for a specific sponsor/tournament host it would be way to much for my liking.

also I feel like the age community is really forgiving. There are people, that even were part of the 2v2 worldcup groupstage, that Team up with ertrug for teamgames. So I have a lot of hope, that in a few weeks all of this will be forgiven and you can keep playing and streaming the way you want.

you said it as if they commited an unforgivable crime , so what if they play with ertug or any other player . are you promoting banning players by association ? so if a player is banned we should ban all of his friends ?

i think you misunderstood me. The people I am talking about are not long time friends with ertrug. They recently found their sympathy for him, despite knowing his past.

and imo that shows a (too) high level of forgiving. And that is why I am optimistic that capoch will be able to leave all this behind without being marked ass a racist by parts of the community (maybe except for some Mexicans that seem to have a general problem with Argentinians but I guess that he could not care less about those)

You seem like a genuinely nice guy, and I personally am always willing to forgive and forget, but, posting an "apology thread" but dedicating most of the post to talking about how you don't deserve what you got and that "actually other people are worse and I could get them in trouble too if I wanted" is not a good sign.

Just learn from it, and move on - and the community will too.

(Also, just a personal suggestion: when this sort of online drama happens the best response is to just ignore it completely, and if you have to get involved, to make a short but contrite apology and then never reply or bring it up again. The public has a shorter memory than you think, and the sort of people who try to "cancel" others won't ever be won over with words.)

With regards to the ban from the tournament, it's unfortunate and harsher than the usual, but... you reap what you sow. If the sponsor is either Mexican or Chinese, it's not really a surprising outcome.

If you shout "people from this city are dishonest idiots" in on a busy city block, would you be shocked if you got glares, yelled at, or punched? If a potential employer found your video of you ranting that his friends, workers, and countrymen have tiny ****s, would you be surprised if they banned you from ever being hired?

And yeah, it's not like all of these incidents are caught and punished, just like you wouldn't always be caught if you vandalize a wall. Maybe you know some people who did it five or six times, and they either weren't caught or got a slap on the wrist from the nice police. But if you do it and are caught and fined/jailed by the strict police, is that really a surprisingly, completely unpredictable thing?

I think people forget that no matter how friendly the atmosphere of a community, the internet is mostly a public space. This is especially true for streaming and open forums, which are watched and recorded. It's probably best to behave as though you're out in public.

TL;DR: PR is a useful skill to learn for public-facing figures.

I seriously doubt Capoch will be banned from future tournaments. Well, maybe those hosted by Pinztec, but time heals many wounds, so who knows.

I am not sure but this could be the 100k tournament organized by the WWP sponsor (see HeavenlyChorus' post a couple weeks ago). I think it was 100k Chinese Yuans so more like 10k USD. If that is indeed the tournament Capoch was uninvited from, from what I understood the tourney planned to have a few international pros team up with Chinese players of varying levels, so it would not be too surprising that what he said about Tim could get him uninvited from that. Then again I'm not sure, could be another tourney.

The guy from PinzTech said he is a big Tim fan in some interview so its probabely a one time deal.
I personally think its out of proportion but streaming and tournament invites etc is all based on having a good public image or the right friends. So yeah if streaming is what you want to do then being nice might have its advantages.

I must say i personally dislike this very much though. Just because you dislike someone you screw him over and dont give him a fair chance to play the game.

Actually I have never seen anyone ever mention this incident on the Chinese stream.

I hate that we are punishing a dude for getting salty about a game. I think he should be invited! If people hate him, then good! Adds some drama to the bracket!

Interesting how top Chinese players calling Vietnamese players jungle monkeys is fine for tournament organizers but Capoch's comment about Tim is where they draw the line.
