What is your favorite major 1v1 aoe2 tournament?

Hey guys,

I'm curious to know which of these tournaments is the most popular, so I created this poll.
I enjoy all of them, but I would vote NAC because I enjoy mixed RM maps the most and I prefer to only watch players I am cheering for so it's hard for me to follow HC.

I'm really torn between NAC and KOTD. I think NAC just edges out KOTD since I do like some map diversity and the general ambience of having everyone at the apartment of Nili! KOTD still feels more 'prestigious' to me though.

KoTD is the most prestigious for players to go far, NAC is the most motivating to be part of, HC is the biggest one. As a viewer, I'd always say HC though, I generally can't watch anything for more than 2 hours, HC is the only exception that I can keep watching for few hours.

KOTD is king for the level of competition and no BS. If NAC didnt have water maps then may be I will pick NAC.

Rest I enjoy barring HC. Still cant get myself to watch anything without knowing who the players are.

NAC... or at least it used to be. I just think that it is the closest to the world championship format (lan setting, pretty balanced map pool with open, closed and hybrid maps, no meme settings) that we have out of 4.

I'd like to vote for an RM tournament (no RBW) with map variety (no KotD) but without gimmicks (no HC) and without access restrictions (no NAC).

Maybe something like The Open Classic. Among these ones, I'd go for KotD - it just has the most competitive feeling. Yet I'm obviously happy about any of them taking place.

For me NAC is my favorite.
I would say NAC > KotD > RBW, I don't watch HC at all since I have zero interest in guessing who's playing and especially no interest in Players not being allowed to show emotions for days/weeks after winning a series against strong opponent.

NAC has so many strong points with a great map variety, great and especially unusual casting duos and the LAN Feeling obv.
The access restrictions are obv. a bad thing and also NAC3 had some weird decisions like adding Hera last second as a ninth Player, or changing the matchups for the final day cause of bad matching-system.

KotD feels to me like not only the most prestigious, but also the most professional out of all of them.
Introducing a lot of different casters to the mass, improving Tournament-System (Group Stage instead of GSL Style to avoid rematches), live-games and the most competitive map.
Only downside obv the repeating map and civ-choices.

RBW was great because it was a new and interesting gamemode and I rly liked the Tournament series, I just think KotD and NAC are even better.

NAC is cool but Swiss System is a turn off, and KotD is great but Arabia gets boring pretty fast.

RBW for me, the marketing, organisation and production value/innovation was unmatched IMO. Things like pushing Riley, Mapu really coming into his own, proper player cams, the side content and the patience (each tournament built on the previous, they didn't just throw everything at a wall saw what stuck). No disrespect to other organisers but I felt the whole series was elite.

It's a little unsatisfying how half the pool of unknown players we are supposed to be guessing is gone after a single Bo5.

I kinda like all of them, they all have their pro's and cons, but if I had to rank them I'd do it like this:

1. King of the Desert, it's the tournament with the most competitive settings. Love the group stages and it always delivers great games.

2. NAC, I really like it for the LAN aspect and getting to meet a lot of people, but it's probably the least competitive in terms of format and usually there's one or two top players missing.

3. RBW, this one has really grown on me, wasn't too fond of Empire Wars at the start, but I kinda like it now, although I still prefer RM. Also if every Red Bull event from now on is like RBW V, it's definitely on top of this list.

4. Hidden Cup, I like it for the guessing games, but I hate it for the reasons why Tarsiz loves it. No seeding and just Single Elimination aren't very competitive settings, although I do like the different maps.

Regarding these four only...

Hidden Cup 7.5/10, would be 8 if Pants map is called properly

King of the Desert 7/10, most competitive by far, greatest quality of play, but as you know I'm a bit lukewarm on Arabia, and I think I much prefer the original AoC 1.0c one.
Apart from that, to me this is the videogame equivalent of competitive chess, and I never miss the latest stages. It's just that I prefer tourneys with varied maps, esp water, mixed maps, BF, nomad/migra style starts, megarandom etc., but it seems I'm on the opinion of minority so whatever.

NAC 6.5/10, what makes this tourney is the banter and the troll moments on camera (eg. like when TheViper wrote "T90 IS A NOOB" on notepad, which was funny as hell). Rest of it is pretty standard though

Redbull Wololo (as a whole) 5/10, ABSOLUTE BEST PRODUCTION, RBW5 set a great standard for AoE II tournaments we have to meet now (although I think permanent PoV of observer is unnecessary, I prefer to see the screens of the casters, with some highlights of the observer here and there). No Dark Age settings are a refreshing change, and a great way to prevent laming

Unfortunately the Viking bans made the first three editions completely unwatchable for me, and the Memb being out of the main English casting of the first three, for dubious reasons, was compeletely outrageous.

So an easy 8.5/10 for RBW4 and RBW5, but 1.5/10 for the first three, I'm splitting the two => 5/10.
