What happened to Empire Wars?

I just loaded post imp rm on fast speed arabia with ultra high res and there are no boars / sheep or stragglers.

Might depend on the map. If the map is specifically just for DM, certain resources probably are excluded already. Other maps have something like "if REGICIDE", "if DEATH_MATCH", "if EMPIRE_WARS" to generate the objects that are there or not there in those modes.

Empire wars was a big mistake and i m glad this clownery is now likely a dead mode.

EW & RM are not so similar & each should have their own community that will thrive or else why not just go back to RM?

Why do you think so?
Splitting the aoe2 community into different gamemodes makes imo little sense, because it's already a small community.
Of course it's great that the DM Community can fund theyre own tournaments and enjoy the game in theyre own bubble, which is also one of the reasons why the decision to remove the DM ladder was pretty unpopular.
But I don't think it's the way to go for other gamemodes to create an own bubble outside of the "main game RM".

As I said earlier, imo rotating the second gamemode besides RM for Ranked-Matchmaking would make more sense, because another gamemode whether it's DM/EW or any other gamemode, cannot be alive and active 12 months a year in terms of matchmaking right now.
Together with ranked lobbys for those gamemodes.

It's approaching 60 hours now. Legend says that at 100 hours a new age will be unlocked.

I really think if EW was 16/20 vill start in dark age then it would have stuck. Just isn't fun starting that late IMO.

Hence the flop of EW, no community outside of RM & no long term sustained investment.


Cos there are many AOE Communities means also you can be apart of those Communities, imo that is fun & exciting.
