What game do you enjoy watching competitively more (high level tournaments)?

i agree that it is quite boring to watch but still the tournaments are doing fairly well in terms of viewer numbers. I'm really curious what these people (that are apparently watching it, assuming they're not fake bots) enjoy with competitive AOE4 but maybe they are just following the "hype" around it?

Probably many people enjoy that the game is fresh and the meta is not figured out yet. In addition, viewers that are new to RTS might also enjoy watching it. However, for me Aoe4 falls behind compared to other games like Aoe2 or SC2. The game doesn't look good, the combat is not enjoyable to watch, and many other viewing issues.

Every now and then I tried it again but for me it is still boring to watch AOE4. Even at the highest level.
So sad because many streamers really enjoying AOE4.
They should do what they want and not forced to play a game because of the viewercount.

The game just has a boring disconnected aesthetic to it. The sounds and animations are so spacey and distant that it is hard to engage with them while playing, let alone watching someone else play.

The audio of AOE4 is much better imo.
Aoe4 will become a fan classic as soon as the balance is fixed.

I have also tried watching aoe4 and found it uninteresting to watch. I am interested in the matchups and who's doing well, but I find the actual games uninteresting.

I obviously have much stronger ties to Aoe2, both as a viewer and a player, so that plays a big role in it. To be fair I haven't spectated other RTS's, except Warcraft 3, but age4 just seems so slow. It's like a movie you started watching out of interest, then want to finish just to get it over with.

AoE 4 is probably more fun play at the current state but is really boring to watch and i'm not sure if that would ever change. Maybe it's just that while watching AoE 2 one is more connected with what's going on. Maybe can be that on AoE 2 an outstanding move has more value so you're hanged expecting them.

That's a good comparison. I love playing basketball but watching it is so damn boring. Football is okay to play and (very) nice to watch.

I tried my best to watch AOE IV games but I don't like it, the graphics are horrible, nothing is understood. The units, the builds, everything is ugly. At least that's how I see it

That's a good comparison. I love playing basketball but watching it is so damn boring. Football is okay to play and (very) nice to watch.

I feel you, although I also feel like watching basketball 15years ago for me was bit more interesting, nowadays gameplay is mostly about 3pointers, is just quite boring, sometimes I even feel this thing about 3 pointers while I do play myself. I liked fighting under the rim and stuff, currently meta is 3pointers, is just boring for me. Although football without any real chances and if both teams playing defensive and end 0:0 can be very boring too

Yeah this is true, 3s have gotten to the point like archer micro where they are no longer interesting anymore and more just point at questions with gameplay design management. Maybe basketball needs to evolve to where the exact point on the floor the player is on determines the value of their shot attempt but of course that wouldn't translate real well to games played outside of modern tech laden arenas.
