We will still always see the meso civs and eagles, the faster imp arb play for xbow civs, the same knights siege push from the cav civs to deny that, or a kt/camel monk fiesta. Not too much room for unique units unless if the game goes super late. Longswords? if we see them even once I call I will be happy 11

But is this really any different on other maps? Other than Islands or something I can't think of many maps that don't play out like this. You're basically just describing how the best players play the game at the highest level regardless of the situation. We certainly never see Longswords, Arabia or not.

And I'd rather watch that kind of thing on Arabia 5 times in a row than watch the Monk/Light Cav fiesta on Arena even once. Just my take though.

From a viewer's perspective there's no problem. I love Arabia just like everyone else
Arabia is the ONLY map where we will have variety if its a BO9 arabia-only set. After all, it is The standard map of age of empires.

The point is that it is figured out. From a player's point of view, it doesn't hold a lot of mystery. They know what is going to happen before even the game starts, so there isn't much room for surprises or strategical outplays.

I am not criticizing the tournament settings or the format in any way - it is a one-map only tournament and we need those every now and then.

Only point I am bringing forward is unlike a multi-themed tournament with diverse maps like NAC/HC, we will not see "as" many different civs.

There won't be as many upsets (exception would be newer players like Mihai, FreakinAndy who are grinding the ladder). The higher seeds would be expected to go through, and the underdog will try to win with all-ins or market abuse cheese.

And also players with unconventional playstyles have a much lesser chance of going through. Imagine Daut or Tatoh facing Liereyy and losing games in feudal age because liereyy out micros 4 archers vs 3. The same matchup on diverse maps, is almost a 50/50 because they of preparation or strategy.

Just food for thought. I am super excited for KOTD, and I really hope Liereyy wins this time!

Well I don't agree with it, yes there were some civs like persians and japanese picked very high because of ponds, but holy moly I preffer watch less civs than seeing another pond fight for a while. Overall I enjoyed NAC4, but I got allergic for ponds for some time. Also who knows, lets see, I have hope hera will pick burmese 11

Yesterday in the end of stream if anyone interested memb was showing how draft will work and was showing map generations. But in short, both players no matter if is bo5 or bo9 will have 4 hidden bans(so they can repeat) and then they can both pick one civ which can also be picked by both players, so there will be a slight chance of mirror match. I think it will be a banger. Yes you can surprise less in arabia, but at same time that's arabia and you always have few choices, saying "they know what will happen before the game starts" is bit too exaggarated.

? I played yesterday 4-5 arabias, it's new version? I didn't see any difference, also in memb's KoTD5 map generation there were 5 carpets as 1 carpet for one KoTD edition and I see 2 or 3 only in current arabia. Anyone knows more?
