As long as they don't leave the AoE2 scene for good, it's good for the community that creators are playing AoE4 and getting viewers from other scenes. When they'll inevitably move back to AoE2 or find a balance between AoE2 and AoE4, those viewers might transfer to AoE2 as well.

Check any AoE2 streamer on Twitch and you'll see that they get more viewers streaming AoE4 than AoE2, so perhaps some of these new viewers will be converted to AoE2 as well.
There are a lot of people from different games giving AoE4 a try and if AoE2 players perform well, they might follow them and come watch them play in AoE2 tournaments as well.

I actually don't think this is true, not for everyone at least.

Jordan was streaming AoE4 this morning with around 400-500 viewers, pretty sure he usually comfortably hits over 1000 when streaming AoE2 at that time of the day.
The thing is, when he's streaming AoE4 there are other, bigger streamers who are on at the same time, taking possible viewers away from him.

Viper also confirmed AoE2 does better in his Facebook channel, for the time being.

Your point still stands though.
Anyone who comes for AoE4, might stay for AoE2 if no competitive scene develops in the former.

To me it all depends on how the next AoE4 patch will look like.
If the next patch signals to the players that Microsoft is now focusing their efforts on the multiplayer side, trying to make it more appealing to competitive players, then I think indeed the AoE2 scene will suffer a major hit.
But if it only brings bug fixes for the campaigns and stuff like that and the same thing is true for the patch after that, then things might be different and AoE2 can indeed maybe even benefit from that.

I think the biggest streamers, meaning daut and Hera, got more viewers with aoe4. But smaller streamers, such as spring and jonslow, seemed to have fewer viewers on aoe4. In addition, survivalist and Chris appear to have more viewers than prior to aoe4. So generally big--> aoe4 good, small--> aoe4 bad, as far as viewer numbers go. It would be nice if someone did a proper look at it though.

I dont think big means benefitting from AoE4 and small from AoE2 is the major thing here. It is also the Viper and T90 leaving twitch effect. Hera is the biggest channel T90 and Viper viewers have been following. What happens is: big growing more and small growing less. I think the effect of the content streamed is yet to be seen. The more times go on, we may end up with AoE2 vs AoE4 streamers as different communities and tastes. But right now t90 and Viper departuring from twitch is the biggest factor.

He's down in average viewers, but his average viewers for AoE4 are higher than his average viewers for AoE2, which is what I was looking at. Anyway, the difference isn't really big and as you said the point still stands that there will be new people coming in who can be converted to AoE2.

Generally speaking majority of the "old pros" is overrated, simply because the player base and pro scene was very tiny and these guys didn't have competition.

Half of these tournaments are TGs so it counts three or four times less. Plus I tend to not give any special attention to results from a decade ago to judge the performance of a player today.

Not only this stuff, but in rated Hun wars (or even a few meso wars back then, but more Huns) back in the day he was pretty much invincible at one point. The only two names who could win a set vs Riut that I recall were Viper and Jordan. No one else could really touch him. There were other seriously strong players back then like Yo, Daut, and I think Chris who Riut seemed ahead of too. He was also a top 10 DMer as far as rating went I believe (during the time Viper and Jordan were also dominating DM), which maybe not many remember. Certainly lives up to legends tbh.

We have to be precise then. I came in the community in 2013, at that time I (and people in general) considered RiuT as a very good player, he indeed had a good stride with TyRanT between 2013 and 2015 in team games

For 1v1 performances, three achievements in 2013-2015:
He won Top Expert League 3, runner up on Top Experts League 5 when I was around, also TyRanT War 3 which wasn't very serious and ended on a DM FFA 1v1v1 stalemate if I remember well lol

It seems most of his individual successes are more concentrated around year 2010, many #1 places, where I wasn't around, so I didn't experience him at the top of his game. (cf picture)

Maybe he was such a beast that year, and people having the chance to experience his performances (were there even tournament streams in 2010?) could say God, he's the best.

Unfortunately I didn't experience that, and many others didn't as in 2010 the game wasn't quite mainstream.
And as SuperSkinnyBLS said, players from this era are a bit overrated because of the tiny competition, I don't give too much credit on that 2007-2010 post-Zone era. Things started to get a bit more serious since WCL 7 in 2011, because it was the first real big tournament since Zone GGed basically'.

To me RiuT has sort of a streetwise legend, sort of "if you weren't there at his peak where he slayed all, well you weren't", there's some sort of old myths I buy into because I have more meat to chew on (recorded games, old tales from players from back then, etc), like DauT legend, Capoch, Chris…

But for RiuT, I mainly think his real "omg he is unbeatable in 1v1" is smoke and mirrors, and lasted like one year in 2010. TheViper rise started around 2011-2012 anyways, since then Vipey killed all, there wasn't a place for an other #1, not even Jordan.

I might be biased, but it's "what are your unpopular opinions" thread, is it? Some people are very big on RiuT, some people just don't get that RiuT hype at all, and both opinions are okay!
