When is he going to train? In the time between the February patch and the actual tournament?
Most of the other pros that are expected to be competitive are grinding every single day

I see no reason why TheViper could not be competitive with 2-3 weeks of serious practice. No other player comes close to his S-tier performance in AOE4 as far as I can tell:

He won Genesis,
He went to semifinals in the steel series prime cup,
He went to semifinals in the Winter Championship (which happened just a few days ago as far as I can tell)

In the A-tier its different, since MarineLord won all of them but according to the point system for qualifying to Winter Championship (which is based on A-tier tournament results) TheViper has the fourth best performance in the A-tier tournaments out of all players.

Either way only time will tell if TheViper or any of the other players will be ready for the tournament or not.

This is cherry picking. AoE4 may be bleeding player base, but it still consistently has more viewers on twitch as a category, largely due to a handful of big name streamers who stream it (Hera, Grubby, etc)

I'm quite disappointed with this thread. I resent AOE4 as much as the next guy, but to gang up on someone who is a first-ballot hall-of-fame aoe2 community member just because of his career decisions is way over the line. You can call out conflict-of-interest issues involved with his tournament, but mocking his ELO and viewership feels like a cheap shot. AOE2 wouldn't be where it is if it weren't for guys like him and Memb who stuck around when there wasn't much money to be made out of this. I get that Nili's style is a bit abrasive sometimes and that people might be releasing pent-up frustration, but come on, we can collectively do better than this.

It's not a cheap shot if it's true. If something is bad, call it bad. There's nothing wrong with that.

Just because Nili has done a lot for Aoe2 in the past doesn't mean Nili can't do anything wrong in the future. It doesn't give you immunity against valid criticism. Do you want people to think: "If Nili has done it, it must be a great decision because Nili has done a lot for the game." or do you want to allow people to have their own positive/negative opinion?

Even Viper got criticised when he promoted that crypto shiz. You want people to say: oh yeah but Viper has done so much for the community so it's alright?

%100 agree with @amazing_knight , moreover people are already judging based on reaction. When T90 and Viper made FB change and Viper committed to AOE4, he got similar reactions. But open communication solved those issues.

Although I agree that problem with Nili is more ethical than Viper and T90 situation, less likely to be forgotten by simple explanation.

That is arguably much worse though. Scamming people for their money is actually illegal. Promoting and profiting of a scam should be criticized.
Nilli just changed games, he isn't scamming anyone. Yes he can be criticized for that, and I have argued FOR the validity of critizing streamers for turning away from the community that made them big before (probably in this thread even), but this really has gotten way overblown.
Being disappointed of Nilli, is totally valid. Criticizing him on a personal level to this degree in my opinion is not. He isn't hurting anyone, just making decisions for his own future and potentially doing a questionable job as the tournament organizer.

I would also argue that it is a cheap shot precisely if its true... but doesn't really matter for the conversation. That's usually pretty much the definition of what a cheap shot is. I'm pretty sure everyone would call it that, if in an argument I'd respond to you with:
"Well, at least my wife didn't run away with the postman" it would be a cheap shot, if true. It's an easy way to hurt you, but has no contribution to the discussion whatsoever.

When people make fun of Daut micro it usually is in good faith, and that's why everyone roles with it. He is one of the top players and being made fun of for his playstyle doesn't really affect him.
