Name of map: Knolls

Type: Land only

Description: An open land map with numerous small hills (knolls) throughout the map which can be of tactical use. Resources are scattered throughout the map. There is ample food and no scarcity of wood despite being an open map. The amount of gold and stone mines near a player's base is limited. However, there are a lot of gold and stone scattered in no-man's land throughout the map. Therefore map control is really important, discouraging the idea of staying inside a full-walled town. There are 6 relics, and no cliffs. The terrain is a mix of different types of dirt, grass and leaves trying to give the map a unique look.

Note: I started working from the dry arabia created for me by Idle_Beaver, but this map is never a desert map.

If this was not HD, your screenshots may just be in the VirtualStore. For Vista and Win7, you can click on the "Compatibility Files" button on the command bar inside the "Screenshots" folder.

Nice to read comments and appreciation.

@Miral: It has same number of total goldmines as ara, but the gold in the players vicinity is 3 mines less. I think it can lead to a more balanced play preventing the common incidences of early game becoming mostly about gold units(archers, xbows, knights) and late game becoming almost trash units only, necessitating more thought on the decision to field what type of army in all ages.

Perhaps the map that it is most similar to is a green version of arabia but there are clear differences.

1. One main difference with green arabia is the amount of mines(gold/stone) near a player's base, and the overall distribution of the mines.
2. The map is less luck based than ara in the sense that one player getting really bad wood and the other really good wood doesn't exist.
3. Overall less wallable than ara since there are no cliffs to assist walling.
4. There are extra bushes around a player's town.
5. Among other minor differences, the map looks different anyway.

STRANDED​

Stranded is a nomad-style-map. All the players start off on a tiny island together. Villagers + transport ship. Everyone then gets into their ships and goes for the mainland where the resources are.

What makes this map stand out from a traditional nomad map is that you can follow other players, so there´s a lot of strategical opportunities. For example, 2 players can decide to land where the strongest opponent landed. Or, all the players of a team can decide to go for a certain part of the map, or split up, etc.

CHEESE​

Ok, so don´t we all agree that it´s more fun to watch offensive play rather than boring defensive play? We have seen maps where you start on a hill (Acropolis), but none where you actually start in a crater, till now. I therefore would like to introduce to you, CHEESE.

CHEESE is a map based on Green Arabia in which every player starts off in a crater (or hole of a cheese). This encourages you to be offensive which leads to more fun games for the viewers. The starting bases are also a bit more centralized than on Green Arabia. Give it a go!

+1, Maybe you could add one mandatory game played on a random map selected from the map pool consisting of these new maps exclusively. That way we would see more than one new maps in WiC. Oh, this is the best age of AOC ever :lol:

There's an object called "map revealer" in AoE2, I guess that one is used to achieve the effect.
