Well can we already say this... is voobly dead so hard? all great players went into DE and it looks like after new patches with restoring, spects allowed options and balances fix incoming tournaments will be play on DE as well. Bye voobly?
My only concern is how long the DE servers will last. At least another 20 years, please!
At least 2 years until AoE4 is out, I think.
I would argue that current DE will stay for at least 5 years, then if there's still demand, they would create "private servers".That's what happen to Starcraft's battle.net!
all depends of DE, voobly will not improve more, and DE can, so it depends of DE, if they fail in fix the things voobly will not be dead, if they fix all the things voobly will die or almost (a part of the community will still be there for x reasons) in my opinion
Why in aoe community there is always something dead damn necrophiles
Good thing: They use "Qt which is a free and open-source widget toolkit for creating graphical user interfaces as well as cross-platform applications that run on various software and hardware platforms such as Linux, Windows, macOS, Android". That means it can be changed and more functionality added easily. More easy in fact than with a custom made GUI implementation.Talking about necrophilia… Voobly still looks like a Windows XP SP2 software, and we're like in 2020 111

I would argue that Microsoft is not Blizzard and that MSFT has a really bad reputation in that regards. ;-)
So I think it's not comparable at all.
It's functional, the rest is your personal preference. But it's still bugly, butt-ugly, So bugly
Sorry, I don't understand the question. Do you mean how it was possible to create these things? Are they? Then can you explain why people could mimic lobby systems like Voobly, Gameranger... without necessary technical details from MS?
compared to playerbase on HD (and now DE), voobly was dead since years...
XBox is not willing to admit, that they made a mistake more than 13 years ago by retiring their Zone client. So it clearly was a political decision to ignore the old Zone community / Voobly since the remastered (HD) versions of their old games were released on Steam.I just wish MS could work with voobly and integrate it with DE so all the work of the past years won't go in vain.

Wake up Microsoft!
Back in 1996 Microsoft acquired a web site called “The Zone Village“, which later was renamed to the MSN Gaming Zone. More than 20 years ago, back in 1999 I joined this wonderful community and even decided to become a (voluntary) System Operator who was providing technical support to the...forums.ageofempires.com
Even with Aoe2DE we've tried everything to unite the community on our end. Unfortunately, we have been told, that there is no political will to re-vive the Zone or use a Zone like client such as Voobly. MS obviously believes, that the community must finally adapt to their existing in-game match making platform, and that it's not their responsibility providing a platform, the community wants to use.
Will DE replace voobly?(Discussion thread)
Well for me it is a big disappointment so far. So I installed the game on my other new pc and tried it. I got decent results in benchmark and tried to go in multiplayer after setting up the hotkeys and settings. When I opened the lobby I could never see more than 2-3 games open. Weird isn't it...www.aoezone.net
In my opinion, this time MS is trying to solve the problem with money, by paying the important influencers (Streamers, Pro-Players, Tournament organizers etc.) of the community, so at least them are playing on their platform - at least as long as the money flows. And in two years, following their logic of the past 17 years, they have the next game e. g. Age4 and no one (them, not the community) cares about AOC/Aoe2HD/Aoe2DE anymore and people are suppose to pay and "adapt" again. They are simply milking the community and they are doing this in a worse manner than EA at this time.
Sorry to disappoint you my friend. MS has decided to ignore the old Zone community / Voobly community again. :/Reading this gives me depression, let's hope they won't do this time and somehow "make" a deal with you ?
Using the FE team's collaboration on HD as inspiration, I did attempt to collaborate with MSFT for DE but wasn't able reach any arrangement. Whether it was for merging communities or helping on multiplayer aspects (like anti-cheats which took enormous amounts of my time to keep competitive gaming possible).
While I'm disappointed I'm not surprised, it's hard justify all the work for a game long unsupported but I
think it would be awesome to get the communities closer together.
