I donated back in the day because I loved the game and I didn't often have people to watch. There were times literally 0 people were streaming Age2.

We had 1 or 2 full time streamers, max. My goal was always to try and support people into going full time. It wasn't always rational, but that was the goal.

Now we have platforms competing over Age2 streamers.

We have come a long way.

This makes the situation more complicated than before.
Curious to see whether Twitch is interested in keeping AoE 2 streamers on Twitch, or whether Hera, Memb, etc. will receive or have received good offers too.
Or will maybe Youtube try to get some exclusivity too if Twitch doesn't care enough?
The "community" era of AoE 2 has definitely ended in 2021; so many business decisions. I hope it will help AoE 2 to still grow let people still have fun, no matter which platform.

Tbh this is an absolute Desaster for the AoE community.

now the two biggest streamers are on another Plattform which means that the community is split. If now YouTube gaming get hera and memb we have 3 Plattforms. So you won’t get super high viewer numbers because nobody is stopping randomly in another stream cause there is just none. except you have all pages open at the same time to check what is going on which doesn’t work on mobile devices.

when viewer numbers drop, sponsors will drop, tournaments will have less price or there will be less tournaments.

the ship is sinking and as always only the top 0,1% profit.

A split to different platforms can also have something positive though. More broad exposure to different people. It's not being said that this is bad for the community overall, but it's definitely changing a lot of things.

Yep, after seeing how hard all the pros are pumping aoe4, it seems like there has been a signal that aoe2 money is going to be drying up to make way for aoe4. There's no way Microsoft is going to be putting up hundreds of thousands next year while they trying to introduce a new game. Seems like KOTD will be the last hurrah.

I've never really followed Viper's streaming too closely, but whenever I've watched him in the past, the vibe was a bit different than T90's. Viper always seemed less interested in the community aspect of it all, so this kinda makes sense.
