Hey Guys,
I just played an RM game with a friend who is a beginner at 1000 Elo. I'm currently at 1600 Elo. We played against two opponents, both at about 1300 Elo. So far so good.
The problem is now, that when we win, i gain e.g. 7 Elo while my friend gains 28. When we lose, I lose 28 Elo and my beginner friend loses only 7. This means that even if we win 50% of our games, I would lose Elo and he would gain elo. Not just a little, but quite a lot.
On the one side, that's bad for him, because he will lose any games without me due to his higher elo. On the other side it's also bad for me because I have to regain my Elo when I play alone or with someone else.
I think it's great that the matchmaking makes it possible to find an opponent team with an about even Elo to get exciting games. Both the beginner as well as the advanced player can "carry" by playing better then his own elo. However, the mentioned issue makes this lead to a distortion of both players elo.
In my opinion, the elo gain should be calculated based on the teams average elos and every player of one team should gain/lose the same amount.
I can't think of any reason why players of the same team should gain a different amount of elo. Am I wrong?
