Based on that logic, MbL would have to be second, since he beat Vinchester and was only knocked out by TheViper, the eventual champion. Of course, MbL also lost to Sitaux, who lost to Liereyy, who lost to Vinchester, so maybe we should just accept that any of the top players can beat each other on their day and the last result isn't the only thing that matters.

I could also exaggerate and say "Based on that logic, Liereyy should be declared runner up of KOTD4". Unless KOTD4 was not a tournament to decide who was the best player but just to decide who is more lucky that day.
Point -> Super Competitive tournament -> Results matter -> Objective ->Decide -> Best at the moment. Tournament results from a year or six months ago -> Bit subjective.

Don't get me wrong, I get your point, Just felt like making a case for someone who beat 3/4 top players to be further up the top 10.

He has more success/participation in non-S-Tier events (like he won Masters of Arena). But if you wanted to take into account only S Tier events, Yo would be 4th and Liereyy would be 1st.

Based on the performance of hera in the KOTD4, i would say that he migth be in 6th - 7th place... Jordan, Vinch, Sitaux, Saymyname,Villese had a better performance... Hera still it's a good player and always comeback.

But that's also Arabia only.

Hera won the latest S tier RM tournament before that (Holy Cup, which to be fair had really weird settings). Also won Hidden Cup 4 where the settings were probably the most competitive out of any tournament this year apart from The Open Classic.

Sure losing this early in KotD4 was a bit of an upset but: 1) he lost to the eventual runner-up, someone who also beat Yo and Liereyy (and did so more easily than vs Hera!) and 2) one tournament result is not enough to make conclusions.

Reaching KotD4 finals bumps Vinch's stock up and Hera losing before the top 8 bumps him slightly down but considering results overall I don't think Hera can be considered lower than #4 (and most likely he's higher than that).

This site is a fantastic resource, especially the head to head feature. The problem with its rankings (and with robo’s list, from what I can tell*) is that it weights all tournaments equally. So going out in the first round of an S tier tournament can easily be offset, points-wise, by going deep in a B or C tier tournament, even though intuitively we’d say that bigger tournaments matter far more.

This inherently favors players like ACCM, who plays in a lot of smaller tournaments, and penalizes players like MbL, who tends to play mainly in bigger events. Hence ACCM being ranked higher than MbL in both those lists despite MbL consistently outperforming ACCM in bigger tournaments.

(I don’t mean to pick on ACCM btw, just using him as an example.)

The problem with its rankings (and with robo’s list, from what I can tell) is that it weights all tournaments equally.

For me the rankings are probably:

1/2. Viper or Leireyy, hard to separate. Yes Viper has won last two, but Red Bull Wololo was so close (and Leireyy had dominated previous versions), and if Leireyy had made final of KOTD4 then I think it could have gone either way.
3. Kind of has to be Jordan at the moment with results in Hidden Cup, Red Bull Wololo, and KOTD4 - the 4 biggest tournaments this year. His first comeback was a little disappointing and I personally felt he was a little overrated that time, but wow is he playing as good as he ever has and is well and truly back.
4. Hera - although form has been patchy
5. Mr Yo - not the same since the pandemic unfortunately but still consistent results.
6-8. Would be a toss up between Villese, Vinchester, and Tatoh.... Villese and Vinchester have improved out of sight and could see them both potentially cracking top 4 (although Villese can't beat Tatoh for whatever reason, style of play I guess). Tatoh was probably out of top 8 but has rebounded a little with some more consistent results again.
9. Daut

Dogao, ACCM, Vivi, Capoch, Nicov, and especially MBL have all dropped off as late.

Rising star and one to watch as future top 10 or better is Sitaux for sure!

AOE4 definitely going to complicate things too.

In this sense the Elo system is better because of the way it factors in expected performance and the strength of the opposition.

Yes but MBL has had the biggest drop in form of top players in the last year or so. He was the one player who struggled the most to adapt the AOE2 DE and his tournament results have been fairly average of late.

Which he had extra home map as a competitive setting, lol. He should not be a part of NAC also where he was in final. Everything he won or performed is actually controversial.

Totally agree. Based only on KOTD4 it's not fair. But still I think his performance has dropped since AOE4. his doing really well playing AOE4. Hope he comeback for next tournaments.

Pool it's just to know the "popularity" on the ladder. I mean, TheViper it's the #1, but from 2th-10th places all are diferents based on personal opinions.

Imo PROject_Belgium (who unfortunately missed KotD) and Vodka should be ahead of LaN, Hearttt (doesn't make sense to rank him anyway if he doesn't participate in tourneys) and Dark.
