They've finally done it....

Mods now randomly disappear and it is impossible for me to get the game into the state I need to play. I resubscribe to the mods I need. Then I need to restart the game for the mods to work. And they are gone from my list again.

Officially I cannot play the game now. I have put up with the ranked queue issues and being forced to play maps I hate. But now I actually cannot get the game into a playable state.

I don't think a grid or a trees mod can make the game crash. You should start with the mods that are purely visuals (like those two) and then check if mods that change sounds or add scenarios and maps make the game crash.

Also I do not recall the last time my game crashed - certainly not in the last few months.

There are some reddit-answers suggesting that with the new update to DE mods (I think they changed how graphics are stored or something?) they somehow introduced a memory leak (or some other problem) which makes people crash over time (lots of people report crashes in mid-castle/imp).

Of course unless some dev confirms it we have no official answer.

I've been experiencing this as well. I have not had any crashes in AoE in months but today it seems the mods have simply disappeared without explanation, including the Nations Cup map pack, which was how i noticed it. Hopefully they patch this soon.

Every time I restart the game is a different mod missing, there is no pattern or anything like that. I install one mod now, play with it, and after restarting, that same mod is missing...

It is happening all random.

If you have a smurf account with mods and you haven't logged in yet, go to the folder where mods are saved and you can copy them. This is the route:
C:\Users\**your username**\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE\**your smurf steamId number**\mods\subscribed

You can copy those files to your main account's local mod folder so you don't lose them. It has worked for me.
C:\Users\**your username**\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE\**your main acc steamId number**\mods\local

After reinstall mods and closing game they are gone again...........
I hate these useless crap business events so much. I wish I could be part of the team-meetings were they discuss this kind of stuff and throw all these ideas out of the window

Maybe it sounds exaggerated, but these things make me on the edge of deciding to quit the game. All the time we deal with absurd problems, that it seems that we are pirating the game and not paying for it. It honestly feels like we're being made fun of and I'm tired of nothing changing.

At least for once, this event feels on point. Upside down - ruining the working game perfectly. Well done. Honestly, if I'd **** up so many things in my job within 3 years, I'm sure I'd be fired long time ago. Devs have some special contracts it seems.

Note that they will not be updated if the mod owner pushes an update, so I would not move mappacks or other frequently updated mods, and leave them as the 5 or so subscribed mods you need.

I know is a mess. Sub to a small number to recover them and move them to local as robo said here:

When u had all your mods on local storage, unsuscribe from all and activate the local ones. (The local ones didnt have the checkmark con "suscribed" colum.

Is there a way / a place to find the mods files? For example the Small trees one? The Idle vils one?
I would like to manually add them because I unfortunately cannot do a copy from C:\Users\PC Name\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE\SteamID\mods\subscribed which is empty, same for the Local folder..
