You must be fun in tgs when your opponents get muted from the start. Have a bit more faith in people please, you will find gaming a better place.

TG is different though. TG is sad anyway due to 5% games with AFK players or disconnect or alt-f4. In TG pausing always involves confirming both sides before unpausing.
1v1 is different.

First you'd need to start eating the TCs vs me . And yes, unpausing is legal, same as laming and same as picking civs and doing the same strategy every game just because it's working and doesn't require skill, each is dumb, awkward and ruins the experience.

If you saw the vod, you could see that dragon wrote 14 and waited for ~30 secs before unpausing. 30 secs without a "sry 2 mins" is justifiable area for unpausing

Just to be clear the unpause was instant and Hoang never had the chance to pause for even 10 seconds, i wish hoang didn't delete the VOD

What's the highest tier tournament in which laming was b&? And pausing?

I just checked KotD 4's Handbook (I assume most S-Tier tournaments follow a similar pattern when it comes to pausing):

"Players must only pause a game if they, or their opponents, are experiencing severe issues that are directly affecting the game and their ability to play."

"Once a game is paused, players must immediately inform an administrator of the situation and issues they face."

So yeah, you can't just Pause because you're feeling hungry or something lol

Laming is allowed in most tournaments but you aren't playing vs the same civ (also the best civ for laming) every game in tournaments, so I can't think of a dumber analogy. If you were playing vs a lamer who plays random I think fewer people would complain. I can't say I've not been tempted to unpause when facing the same guy 3 times in a row doing the same strat who pauses the game for 2 min.

To be clear i am not a fan of Hoang style and I really hope I don't find him in queue, but you can't consider laming and unpausing on the same level. Just to give you an example, in high tier tournaments you can't unpause, but you usually can lame. I can understand the frustration you have when you get constantly lamed, but this doesn't give you the permission to unpause the game when the opponent has some real life issues. About the flaming I can't say much since I am the first to do that when the opponent lames or plays in a "socotra" style with forward vills, towers ecc.

Tournaments GIVE you pauses. Nobody pauses in the middle of a tourny to go to the bathroom, they pause for asking an admin for rules if they spot something off or a technical problem.

Look at Valorant, they allow teams timeouts between rounds during a match, a fixed amount. Regular comp play doesn't offer that advantage.

Pausing is in the game, as is unpausing.

Context makes all the difference. Playing VS the same guy doing the same **** all the time is not fun for the majority of people on the higher end. Was Viper a hunwhore in his prime before DE came with his anon system? Theres a large portion of frustration being against an opponent who always does the same thing. You might expect them to do it, you might know how to counter it and win against them most of the time because of that, but even when you win you're still frustrated at the way they play and you want to be VS at least some variety in comparison. There was a thread about it before but allowing someone to pause and keep it paused is a COURTESY that you afford them if you care to do so.

People are so weird about "unwritten rules," in this game.

They will literally try to influence tournament rules and then also apply them in random ladder matches and the surprised pikachu face when their opponent rejects their reality and substitutes their own is entertaining.

If Dragonstar had simply said he had places to be and didn't have time for an indeterminable pause I would easily support such a move -- but the truth of it being borne in salt makes it a bad look.

Hoang gets bonus drama points for calling out Lizard aka. platnium boi aka island lizard boy, and Dragonstar, so +10 points to Gryffindor there. The "1v1 me bro," attitude is something that we have been missing in aoe2 for some time.

I fondly remember one of my earliest posts on aoezone when I complained about a guy who lamed me minute 1 twice in a row and kept unpausing the game when I paused to go to the doorbell. Everyone on aoezone was like "stfu dude nobody is obliged to wait for you, if you have to go, why make others wait just resign and go do whatever you want" something along those lines. (take this with a hint of sarcasm ) Oh if I had a dollar for everytime someone would unpause the game when I genuinely had to go afk due to phone call or doorbell or something, I would be rich enough to sponsor a showmatch

Also, people are expecting Dragonstar that as a 2k3 player he should set an example, not do "toxic" things like unpausing a game unreasonably etc etc, I am sorry but context plays a role. And in this particular context, nobody wants to play against mongols first game of the day, get fully lamed and then wait. I agree it was wrong of him to do that, and over the years, one thing I have learnt and am proud of is that I just resign when I get lamed to oblivion or rematch a player who I deem is toxic or unworthy of my time (for ex, a guy who lamed me, walled off my resources with vil, toxic behavior etc etc). Like TheViper says, Elo is just a number. If the GOAT of Aoe2 insta resigns multiple times against Ertug, that should teach us a lesson or two. Let your reputation precede you.

All this being said, we can all see there is a fair bit of salt involved, and I am pretty confident if this was to happen again, Dragonstar would not think twice before resigning, as I am sure losing 5-10 elo vs Hoang by getting insta lamed means nothing to him. So yes, this thread title is heavily misleading and claiming false accusations for a player who is very well reputed and an amazing & genuine person.

All kinds of things happen at lower elo but at top player elo nobody should sistematically instantly unpause the game, and being lamed or playing vs a particular civ should be no excuse.
