Dunno, this is a pretty basic term and the author of this thread still managed to misue it IMO
The need of self-sacrifice and working for » the greater good» or » the bigger purporse» are the core characteristics of altruism. Lets refer to a higher authority on the subject:
Stanford ecyclopedia of philosophy's description of altruism:
»Behavior is normally described as altruistic when it is motivated by a desire to benefit someone other than oneself for that person’s sake. The term is used as the contrary of “self-interested” or “selfish” or “egoistic”—words applied to behavior that is motivated solely by the desire to benefit oneself. “Malicious” designates an even greater contrast: it applies to behavior that expresses a desire to harm others simply for the sake of harming them.
(...)
This essay will discuss altruism (...) as behavior undertaken deliberately to help someone other than the agent for that other individual’s sake. »
It seems like you are the one who is confused about this »pretty basic term».
Hence you seem to be under a notion that since "the creators" care for earning money then they don't need to or shouldn't care too much for what the players think.
The creators does not care about what players think. Here, I fixed it for you.People who actually care about the player's experience is for example the creaters of 1.0-1.5 compatibility patch, the person scripter and WK-team that made AOC and HD possible to be played almost flawless in voobly. Certainly not Microsoft and its HD-DE that is not fit for the competitive scene.
