So one counter example vs ~3.5 stronger non-counter examples - Tatoh's team didn't face any higher seeded teams. I wouldn't say steamrolling either. Looking over the games it looks like a combination of Tatoh beasting, Tatoh's partner being a bit better than her rating, the high elo players on the other team playing pretty potato, and decent civ matchups. That being said Castle Gala is not exactly the best example as to my knowledge TaToH's team has been steamrolling their opponents so far.
Edit: I don't think there's a single game won by a lower seeded "high+low" team vs a higher seeded team, so Castle Gala is a perfect example thus far. The 3rd highest elo player (and 6th seeded team) in the qualis is out, and his team lost a game to a team 531 combined elo below them.
Just forgetting to build vils seemed to be the biggest thing, although getting housed and not realizing for way too long definitely happens at this elo, and not force dropping the boar, sheep scouting and not having sheep back at the tc, etc. This is true but I would say does not apply as much hotkeys because once learned they make doing what you want to do so much easier it is hard to not use them. Remembering to build villagers constantly definitely is a harder habit to build so maybe for those players at 1k you would expect so much idle time. In the example you cite what specifically caused the idle time? How much was due to not having food vs. not having pop room vs. just forgetting to build vills?
I thought early heavy walling was basically standard play now.
Yeah I guess heavy walling is fairly standard, but the two 1500s wouldn't have to in this scenario.
