genette: china's -1 vill and +50 food is NOT a boost. their boost is the TC LOS. Any rts gamer knows it's better to have one already live vill than having 50 food...

also 23 pop scs with china is about the same time as 21 with huns if done correctly

It's neither a nerf nor a boost for arabia and normal maps. A pure nerf for LN/ RF like maps. 10 wood given to compensate the 25 villager seconds.

Brahms: Agreed, it doesn't make Chinese faster. But in dark age, you are not that dependent on early sheep anymore and don't have to force-drop so much anymore. Under bad circumstances (late sheep), it's definitely helpful and it makes the dark age smoother for China.

About pop 23 scouts with China: It's a rather uncommon strat, or am I wrong here?

China is made easier definitely since you can find sheep at start due to +5 LOS (or atleast send 5 vils to forage in the rare cases where you dont find sheep at start). You start china by making a vil instead of loom.

It is actually a small nerf, because one would rather be using that vill those 25 first seconds, but it's more than compensated with the LOS which saves you from the sometimes awful china start.

About the 23 pop sc i've seen it before, I don't think it's very uncommon, but i might be wrong. Of course without balance patch you could get an awful start and then 23 sc wouldn't be as powerful, but being that china in this balance patch can manage to get nearly no idle time with early sheep and have +2 vills it should be able to go 23 pop scouts exactly in the same time a hun goes in 21 pop (and with better farms) which is quite good to me. A reason it could be uncommon is before balance patch we didn't see a lot of china in 1v1 and even then if sheep weren't fast you couldn't be 2 full vills ahead of other civs.

/edit oh i didn't finish reading carlos so the 10 wood makes it neither a nerf nor boost. so the actual important boost is the tc LOS
