T90 Titans League | Announcement

The ‘T90 Titans League’ is a recurring league that aims to provide a consistent high-level stage for pro players to hone their skills, and give newcomers a chance to prove their ability and advance into the upper echelon of players.

For this inaugural season, the winner of the Platinum League will earn an invitation to the Red Bull Wololo Legacy event in October.

There will be a Silver Qualifier for Season 2 later this year after RBW Legacy, and before Christmas. The exact dates & details are yet to be confirmed.

Format

The 48 highest ranked players on the 1v1 ATP Rankings who sign up will be placed into two divisions of 24 players. Within these divisions, players will be seeded into groups of 6, and play a 3 games series against each of their 5 opponents over 5 weeks. At the end of this group stage, the 1st placed player will advance to the quarterfinals, while 2nd & 3rds meet in the Ro12 of the playoffs, while the lowest 2 players will be relegated.

Every player in both divisions will earn prizemoney for every game that they win, as well as bonuses for their placement at the end of the league.

Before the 2nd season begins, there will be a large open single-elimination qualifier to determine which players will replace those who are relegated.

Prize Money

The prize pool of $22,500 has been sponsored by Microsoft.

Platinum League: $17,300​

1st place: $2,100
2nd place: $1,400
3rd & 4th place: $1,000
5th - 8th place: $500
9th - 12th place: $200
13th - 24th place: $150

Plus $40 per game won in the group stage (a maximum of $600 if you win all 15 games)

Gold League: $5,200​

1st place: $200
2nd place: $160
3rd & 4th place: $100
5th - 8th place: $80
9th - 12th place: $60
13th - 24th place: $40

Plus $20 per game won in the group stage (a maximum of $300 if you win all 15 games)

I like this mappool a lot.

Good variety with open, closed, in between, hybrid (no real water map but with like 5 hybrid maps i can live with that) but nothing too wild so I feel like every player can pick some maps they like and bring their best gameplay every time.

On an unrelated note i really wish whoever decided to make atacama-but-a-hybrid-map gave it a new damned name, confusing as heck 11

Thanks! We feel the map pool has a good mix of hybrid, standard land, and more closed maps that suit 1v1s. I actually think some fish on atacama is nice because you're not as dead if you lose a few vills early which can happen often lol. Also in TTL Atacama we lessened the hybrid aspect compared to The Resurgence, four 250 food fish in each pond as opposed to 6. We also spread out the woodlines a bit so it's a bit less snowbally while still maintaining a need for middle control.

Mr T90, a "large single elimination qualifier" is not a league division!

 

Is there a specific reason why the final of the plat league is before the gold league final? Will this be like it in every season or is it so that the qualified player for RBL has some more time to prepare?

I'd love for Silver to be a full league as well! But the league format that fits what Platinum and Gold have is simply not realistic due to the amount of time investment and the prizepool splits. Why? Because with multiple leagues you never want someone in a lower tier to be able to earn more than in the upper tier, as that would incentive getting relegated instead of promoted.

For example: As it stands last places in Platinum would earn $150 minimum (not counting $40 per win) and first place in gold receives $200 (not counting $20 per win). This is because it shouldn't be common for a Gold player to outearn a Platinum player, otherwise what's the point of promotion? Now process those numbers and now imagine having a silver league where players would play over the course of a month and a half. With the 22.5k prizepool we have they would have to receive around what last place in gold would get to make it balanced which is already less than $100 (before game win bonuses.)

So yes, would be sick to have three full flight leagues with players competing over the course of a month and a half and keep it running. But who would want to sign up to do that for a grand total of maybe 50 bucks to win it all in silver (an average of like $1-2 per game played.) It just wouldn't be fair to the players to have to go through all that. Due to the size of the prizepool it's actually more fair for Silvers to play within a bracket format that gives them the potential to join Gold if they bring good results. It's less time investment, same level of opportunity, and it won't be super discouraging if they get close and fail (there will always be another chance next time, and they didn't just play 50 games to fail.)

This thing is just getting on the ground so if we'd want silver to have gold prizepool numbers and games played, gold league would see an increase as would platinum. That all comes down to interest from sponsors and money at the end of the day. Excited to get it going and maybe $50k a season is something in AoE2's future a year or two down the line. If the numbers go up I can see silver league making sense, until then we've got some great things planned for the silvers that will suite Titans League really well.

But maybe there are a lot of people they would compete and would love to get a Big Chance to get to the Gold league even there is no money on the Line. Yeah, there will be a silver qualifier where they get a small chance, but I believe this qualifier is more likely for the 8 top top tier Players who couldn't compete in season 1 because of time issues or what ever. The ATP List now has over 200 Players listed and there are more very good Players who wants to compete at high Level to get better under tournament settings.



There are plenty of small leagues around the age world where players compete and investing a lot of time.

But maybe 4 Spots guaranteed out of the 8 Spots, so there is only an open qualifier for 4 Players only?

Because I believe its not the same level of opportunity to get in the Gold league.

Would love to see something like this. Would be a more fair chance for a lot of high level players who didn't reach the top top level yet. The players who invest a lot of time to get better will be rewarded. A fair deal if you ask me :D



I am hyped to see how it will work out. Wish you a lot of luck with this league system. I would be happy to see success in such a format, so we could have a lot more than 2 seasons.

 

Just want to say that I've wondered how a league system would do for AOE2 for a while and I'm super excited to see it come. Both JMB and this league do amazing things in so many aspects, keeping high level players active, providing many great tournament games to watch etc. I love this idea and I'm very excited to watch it all unfold. I do have a minor suggestion regarding promotions/relegations which I elaborated elsewhere (https://www.aoezone.net/threads/t90-league.182347/post-783225) Long story short I think the need for mobility between leagues is important, but there is a key step missing.

No matter what, this is great news for the scene, thanks to everyone involved, I cant wait.

I would guess its the extra admin-work compared to income from extra content being not well balanced for that. Maybe if there is another streamer/group who organizes it they could cooperate to get a couple of spots?

I mean, lower-level tournaments with same-settings happen relative frequently, and not too unusual that its someone else organizing it, they just rarely have to do any cooperation, 'cos there is no qualifying for next time as reward in it.

 

What a fantastic idea, which is phenomenal news for any AoE2 fan. Big kudos to anyone involved in making this happen.

 

Anything that gets more high level games played is a win.

 

Bring back silver LEAGUE. We don't want some boring single elimination bracket, give us the real experience. No need for money or streamers we just want to have fun and get slice of the big boy gamer experience.
