Why do people think FB is worse than Amazon? They are both terrible companies. Makes me wonder how much did Amazon invest in their PR

It's just based on recent evidences.

We don't have evidence of Amazon banking on making people suicidal and screwing democracies all over the world. But we do have evidence Facebook does that.

Yeah Amazon does **** to his workers and businesses around the world, but that's pretty small compared to screwing whole societies.

what FB did is also common practice for Amazon too.
Amazon just does not have the chance to own a popular social platform where they can filter contents

Starting point is that most or all major tech companies are somewhere towards the wrong end of the evil spectrum...probably hard to find someone on here who doesn't willingly use one of the major companies with known serious ethical issues.

Facebook's purpose is not to destroy democracy or make people suicidal. Unfortunately they've made the calculation that they can make more money by favoring the spread of information that leads that way, but the platform can be less evil just by some tweaks to the algorithm and harvesting user data less invasively (choices which I assume would require at least new leadership). The concept of Facebook and social media in general isn't evil. Remember, most of the complaints people have had in this thread are because the users of Facebook behave badly (even if the platform tips the scales to feed negative over positive information).

Amazon on the other hand basically exists for the purpose of strip-mining retail. Amazon's goal is to put small independent creative companies out of business, and if they can't, to make sure they skim off the top by making sure other sellers can only survive through 3rd-party Amazon sales. Amazon has wiped out whole categories of retail and destroyed local business (and hey, opening those communities up to destructive social media behavior!), and customers love it because they can save a dollar. Remember, Amazon didn't create Twitch. They bought it because someone was making money at something and they weren't getting any.

There are a lot of problems with retail and global supply of course, and Amazon is only one, but they did their absolute best to make sure that they were the single worst problem for everyone else in much of the world. I personally would rank Amazon as more destructive and evil and less potentially redeemable than Facebook - although sadly there are no signs any of the biggest tech companies are interested in better behavior, so "potentially redeemable" is kind of a moot point.

Others might argue which is worse. Idc. Congrats to T90 on a good opportunity that was very much earned! I'm curious about the details of the platform but will be there in one way or another when I can!

Don't know nearly enough to venture a guess.

What I will say is...not everyone hates Facebook.

I was a very early adopter of FB and back then, especially for people living abroad such as myself, there were barely any negatives to using FB.
It allowed you to connect with family/friends living far away, it allowed me to show my family pictures of my kids when they were too sick to travel, etc.

I realize FB has now become something more nefarious that allows for the spread of hate speech, misinformation etc.
And so I understand the younger folks only see that side of FB and thus hate it, but many of us still remember the good sides of FB and so for me personally is hard to totally disassociate from those nice early memories...

But yeah hard for me to make a prediction, I simply know too little...
Ah, I see. I suppose I shouldn’t say more negative things about it. Rather not taint your good memories. Sorry if I made you feel bad.

I never used it myself, but some of my friends have. Or I’ve heard of how people are reconnecting after not seeing each other for many years. I actually believe my mother managed to find two of her friends after losing contact for 20 years partially because of Facebook and stuff like that. Found one friend through google searching which was rather scary, her friend asked too 11.

One last thing I would say though, is that the whistleblower believed Facebook wasn’t always negative. She said something like she believed the initial intentions were good, but it was more of a greed/power corrupting people gone wrong type of story if I remember all that right from her interview.

I can't see this being in any way beneficial for the community... the biggest aoe2 content creator and streamer leaving twitch and fading into relative obscurity for a year or two like Viper did. Like Mixer was, facebook gaming is just inferior in all respects, who uses it is a mystery to me, and I refuse to ever return to that website of awful memories. I think many are the same and even just the inconvenience of switching between services is a massive turn off for most casual viewers. On a positive Dave is on his way to becoming the number 1 aoe2 streamer and maybe even bigger than t90 in a few years when he returns after facebook money runs dry.

Funny all the people complaining while literally everyone would have done the same thing.

If you support T90 you should be happy for him and that's it.

Your post made pretty good points overall.

My only point of disagreement is when you say Facebook didn't cause the problem they created of destroying democracies around the world, suggesting they are "not so evil".

Problem is, when they were made aware they indeed caused all the social uprising, they decided not to act against that and leave it be. So yeah they still are 100% to blame of all things that happened.

Is social media an evil concept by itself? Obviously not. But Facebook indeed made it evil for them.

And that's worse than all the **** Amazon is causing around the world, which you described correctly. Obviously that does not mean Amazon should be looked upon lightly. The governments around the world should punish Amazon for disrupting labor rights, damages to the ecosystem (they burn returned goods instead of donating or recycling them so the prices don't plummet), aggressive behaviour towards smaller businesses etc.

But what Facebook done and still does is way worse. Zuckerberg does deserve jail time, if not death/life sentence for the crimes he done. Which of course won't happen because he's billionaire.

The only winner here is obviously T90 himself.
Lesser audience, lesser prize pools. But of course, this opens up for other initiatives for the game.
For the record, I also think it's crossing a line when you have again and again said you'll stay loyal to the community and Twitch, and then simply breaking it. Would've been better to be open about the situation, that financially aspects exist all the time.

Hera received an offer like a year ago, maybe you can use that as a reference and do some maths with their twitch stats including the recent leak.

So it was maybe half a year ago (but I could be a few months off) that Hera got offered $18k/month to switch over to Facebook. Keep in mind, his Twitch presence at that time wasn't what it is now (which, of course, still isn't quite on par with T90's). I'd guess that, at absolute minimum, T90 will be getting something to the tune of $20k/month outta this, though it could be much higher. Who knows what the upper bound could be.

I do not know if this is up to date:

www.theverge.com

Microsoft is shutting down Mixer and partnering with Facebook Gaming

Microsoft will work with Facebook to integrate xCloud in the future
www.theverge.com www.theverge.com

But I was wondering and I remembered reading that after Mixer shut down, they kind of partnered with FB Gaming. I do not know if that is what it drove switching platforms, but might have been.

Either way, I'm happy for the guy and in the end, nothing stays the same.

The very few (if any) people who know won't say it. The ones who don't know, like myself, can always speculate and come up with numbers out of our asses.

The main way would be working out how much he was making in Twitch per year and then multiplying that for 3. I don't think he'd leave for less than that because the reward has to be big enough for the risk to be worth it.

For instance if he was making 1 million dollars per year in Twitch (subs + bits + donations + promotions) I reckon he'd accept Facebook's offer of 3 million dollars per year for a 3 years contract, 9 million in total.

Maybe he doesn't make that much though. If he makes 500k/year in Twitch he may be leaving for 1.5 million/year.
