The SY Nations Cup has already proven to be one of the best tournaments this game has ever seen: a ton of great players, an excellent tournament staff who have put together an exciting and engaging tournament, a generous sponsor to raise the stakes to new levels, and unprecedented live courage. As we enter the group stage of the tournament, it's time to take the "Prediction Contest" a new level, one worthy of this wonderful event.
Summary
This edition of the Prediction Contest will be less of a "Prediction" Contest and more of a "Wagering" Contest. The contest originally came to fruition based on an idea of several members who wanted to place friendly wagers on some tournament matches. Why not do exactly that--allow participants to wager on the outcome of various matches throughout the tournament and see who can do the best over the course of the event?
The idea is fairly simple: everyone starts out with 100 "points" and each week will be given the option to bet their points on the outcome of the various matches that week. Choose correctly and you'll win more points. Choose incorrectly and lose the points you wagered. Take your (hopefully) winnings and reinvest them into wagers next week and try to get even more points! Have more than everyone else at the end and win some money!
There are, of course, some complications that make this a bit more complex than just that of course. For full details, please read the full Rules below. For example, though this tournament does have quite an even playing field, there are certainly some "Favorites" who many would expect to easily win against certain other teams in their groups and such. It wouldn't be fun if everyone could just lay all their points down on "Team Juggernaut A" to beat "Team Happy to Have Made It Out Of Qualifiers C" every week. Perhaps the fairer wager might be something like "Team Juggernaut A beats That Other Team 3-0" or so. Alternatively, perhaps wagering on Team Juggernaut might only give you a small payout, while wagering on the underdogs would give you a substantial return (Odds betting, in other words). While we're at it, why not throw in some wagers that aren't even about who wins the match? Why not do some fun prop bets, like, say, who will have the highest score in Game 1? For this contest, to make things interesting, we'll use a combination of Straight Betting, Line Betting, Odds Betting, and Proposition Betting.

Rules
General Rules
- There is no sign-up required. Participants may immediately jump in and place wagers at any point for the duration of the contest.
- Players who are part of the tournament are allowed to participate. However, they will not be allowed to place wagers that relate to any match they or their team is a part of.
- The SY sponsor has generously agreed to award $200 to the winner of the contest.
- One entry per person. Using multiple accounts to participate will result in disqualification.
General Wagering Rules
- Each player starts out with a bank of 150 points to use.
- A player may not bet more points than they have. If a player reaches 0 points, they can no longer participate in the contest.
- After placing a wager, the player will appear on the leaderboard post. The leaderboard will show, in addition to the total points for that player, how many are "Available" and how many are "Wagered". Wagered points are defined as points that are tied up in a wager that has not yet concluded. Available points are all the remaining points. You may only use "Available" points to place new wagers.
- The leaderboard does not update in real time. It updates as often as I get around to updating it. It is therefore recommended that each player keeps tabs on their own wagers to be sure they actually have the available points before placing wagers if necessary.
- There will be a maximum bet amount set each week based on current bankrolls. The purpose of this is to prevent people from going "all-in" in the last week in an attempt to get first place when there is obviously no penalty for busting. The idea of this contest is to reward excellence over the course of the tournament, not being decent over the tournament and lucky in the last week. This figure may be adjusted depending on standings in the last few weeks.
Wagering Structure and Tickets
- For each "week" of the tournament, a list of available wagers will be posted in a separate thread. In order to place a wager, players will fill out a "ticket" by replying to the thread.
- A ticket consists of a list of the wagers chosen and the amount of the wager. A ticket does not need to consist of every available wager for that week. Players may choose to take as many or as few wagers as they choose. See the weekly wager list for details.
- All tickets are FINAL unless they are rejected by the admin . This means you are not allowed to edit your posts for any reason. So think twice before placing your wagers!
- Tickets will be rejected if they are not filled out correctly, if they wager an amount the player does not have available, if they wager on a match they potentially are participating in, or breaking any other rule.
- You MAY place multiple tickets in the same week if desired, as long as all other rules are followed. You are also allowed to increase your wager on an already placed bet in this manner
- You MAY NOT place wagers on both outcomes of the same bet
- Tickets for that week will be accepted up until 23:59 GMT on Tuesday of that week. This should give you at least one full day for every bet from the previous week to conclude. If a match is scheduled for before that time, that particular wager will close at the scheduled time.
- FOR THE FIRST WEEK ONLY (25/5/14-31/5/14) wagers will be accepted for a particular match up until the scheduled time for that match.
Payout Structure and Odds Betting
- The majority of the wagers will be even money wagers. This means that if you bet 50 points, you will either lose 50 points or win 50 points. Your potential payout is the same as your wager.
- Some wagers will be set up as Odds bets where the payout will vary. These will be structured as followed:
Team A vs. Team B: Who will WIN this matchup?
A. Team A (Odds: 1.5) B. Team B (Odds: 3.0)
The Odds listed represent the decimal payout of your wager. For example, if you wagered 50 points on Team A, you would get 1.5 x 50 = 75 points for a win, or a net of 25. If you wagered on Team B, a win would get you 50 x 3.0 = 150 points, or a net of 100. In both cases, you would lose your 50 point wager if you did not win your bet. Even-Money betting is the same as if both outcomes had an odds of 2.0. If odds are not specified, the wager is an even money wager.
Other Rules
- Unless otherwise specified, all wagers do not consider restarted games as part of the match. If a wager is regarding the first game, for example, it refers to the first completed game and does not count anything that may happen in any restarted games prior.
- Rules are subject to change as deemed necessary. I will post an announcement if this happens.
