I played 2 games as Gujaras so far, one against Britons and one against Vietnamese. This Unit does not die to arrow fire, against archer armies they tank so much damage, they basically work like siege rams and hussars combined, except for taking down buildings. Together with the UU its a great army composition thats very hard to stop, and with the Unique tech actually quite cheap, even though both Units cost gold.

As a nerf to this Unit, I could either imagine them beeing more costly in gold, or nerf their "dodge ability" in terms of that "shield bar" going down 25% instead of 20% per shot, so the shield only blocks 4 instead of 5 arrows..

also that dodge working against onager shots is pretty ridcoulus I think

Their fast train time and speed are very nice, but they take fewer xbows to one-shot than light cav. Far from OP.

I think the problem guys like in this thread is that it is fast anti archer unit in comparison to skirms or mangonels.

Against focus fire they're not even that good. I'm more afraid that this unit is underwhelming than I'm afraid for it to be too strong.
If people just attack move into each other, it will be great vs archers, but with some micro I'm not sure if it is an upgrade to the scout line (probably a bit, but not significantly).

It feels strong in early, when facing small groups of archers, weak in mid/late when facing large groups of archers, and strong again in late imp for raiding.
Seems balanced to me

i was able to push vs Longbow/ Halb with those riders and the UU.
surely would not be possible with Hussar + thrwoing axemen or sth like that. If you just use them to dance and absorb arrows they are incredibly cost effective in doing that

I haven't tried the unit myself yet, but I did watch a stream from Jordan vs. Sitaux today where they seemed incredibly underwhelming. This was early castle age where they are supposed to shine. 1 rider was one-shot by a group of only 8 crossbow, and later on when he had a larger mass they still easily lost against a slightly bigger (but not massive) group of crossbow.

I don't think these units are OP at all. If anything, they seem underwhelming to me

A ball of crossbows still one shot them. Just need to focus fire. I don't think the dodge mechanics works as devs intended/hoped it would. It's just that mirco becomes more important when dealing with Srivamsha riders.

In castle age, straight up light cavalry can deal decently against them.
In addition, Gurjaras don't get blast furnace. So even fully upgraded hussars can also work cost effectively against the elite srivamsha rider..

I suppose it will be useful as a raiding unit rather than anti archer unit

Dont get so many ppl focus on the archer micro...this unit is very good in raiding and imperial war! 1.6 speed, for 20 gold it is like an upgrade version of Hussars which dodge arrows much better. Who the hell always have time to micro in imperial?

In 1v1s, people micro archers in imperial dude. Like, all the time!
I'm just ~ 1.3K, and even people in my bracket micro archers a lot to focus fire. Esp since attack move isn't that popular here (at least I don't use it 11)
In 1v1s, people stop micro or at least don't focus as much on micro only in post imp trash wars, generally speaking. When they spam trash units and don't bother too much with mirco, cause who cares about trash units!

As raiding units tho, I agree they're far superior to hussars.
But that's really about it.

Amazingly, since the dodge mechanic goes by projectile, not by damage. In other words, the shrivamsha can tank 5 bombard tower cannon balls.

I would prefer 50+% dodge mechanic instead of a loading bar. Very few if any units can reduce damage from high hitters like gunpowder.

Absorbing high damage projectiles is interesting (if a little whacky looking) I just get annoyed at how all or nothing it is.

I cannot comment on the power of the unit, but the mechanics could be refined. To recap for readers in case they change it in the future, the wiki page currently says:

The Shrivamsha Rider is one of the three unique units of the Gurjaras in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Dynasties of India. It can be trained at the Stable once the Castle Age is reached. It is a speedy cavalry unit that can "dodge" enemy projectiles, which is represented as a second, regenerating health bar which has to be depleted below a certain level before the unit itself takes damage. The second health bar regenerates even during combat, but only protects from projectile attacks - melee attacks bypass it completely. It is strong vs. archers and weak vs. Pikemen and Camel Riders.
