how about showmatch after tournament, for those strong teams which havent met each other in tournament. like in BoA, SY vs soumi, soumi vs aM, soumi vs LoS, LOS vs AM and VNA vs ChinaA/Nabs.
From a viewers perspective:
i dont like showmatches at all. Its always around the same few players (Yo, Viper, Daut, Lierry, Vivi, now Tatoh and Mbl was in one) and mostly the same map (all arabia BO7/9/11). As Edie mentoined there is not a big difference between daily rated games.
I enjoy tournaments like Nc , Clan Masters and Boa a lot more because you get more games, with more players and more different maps. So instead of organzing 5 showmatches with average prize 400$ you can organize one tournament with 2000$ and split the money between x. Most likely the same players as in the showmatch would win. But for exampe what value has a showmatch between Viper and Daut for 200$ when they played 100 rated games against each other before ?
Also it doesnt really matter if the tournament is 6 weeks for example and you have to play 1 match each week until the final, or you play 2 tournaments from friday to sunday in the same six weeks. It will be 6 matches / 6 days still where you have to be available to play.
But then you have the problem of nobody would really watch many non big name showmatches. Put daut / viper / mbl / liereyy/ heartt etc in title and you get more viewers. I would watch any show match even if it's a 1600 scrub. The project Belgium and Daniel show match was fun and I'm glad killer b did that one <3
Spanish caster Mario Ovalle was trying to set up a match between aM and Finland after BoA, but they were unfortunately not able to gather enough money for it.how about showmatch after tournament, for those strong teams which havent met each other in tournament. like in BoA, SY vs soumi, soumi vs aM, soumi vs LoS, LOS vs AM and VNA vs ChinaA/Nabs.
hese showmatches (atleast the ones sponsored by Askl) have the aim of rewarding top players for staying in good shape, they are not exactly set up for viewer purposes (hence the short notice/lack of advertising).
MO, the problem is that currently the people with the most power in the community are the casters
I was thinking recently it would be interesting to see sponsored internal 1v1 clan/team tournament
WutFaceI love all the recent show matches. Even the $5 ones are fun. I hate tournaments. They last forever. There's so much dead time the casters have to fill in tournament games. I'm sick of hearing if they have forward golds and how wallable there map, if there's a hole, and how they should have walled for the first ten minutes of every tournament game.
How is it not working in practice lol. I can asure you all the players involved are damn happy this is happening, and it's a potential motivator for those who are not at the highest level yet to keep training. Askl is just one man, are you willing to put your own money towards showmatches for the rest of the players? I'm going to guess the answer is no.In theory nice idea but it’s not really working in practice. Show matches with good prize money (>200 $) are mostly happening among same 5-6 already famous players. When it does happen involving lesser known/exposed players eg ACCM, Cool, Laan Zuppi etc the prize money is so low that it makes it irrelevant. Polaris as a concept was good but grinding of 4+ hours for ~50$ is not worth it at all.
Whether it’s Zeroempires, Memb or old Voobly team, they are the ones who are putting together efforts for generating the prize pool along with all the work going into the tournament. Isn’t it natural that they are calling shots. It would be unwise to conclude that players don’t gain from tournament at all. In fact they gain so much by just showing up for games.
My idea was to have a timeline for prestigious tournaments masters of arabia (sometimes 1v1 sometimes 2v2) masters of islands(sometimes 1v1 sometimes 2v2) master of arena (sometimes 1v1 sometimes 2v2) clan masters(3v3 or 4v4) every year around the same time.imo showmatches are bad because
1) not having entertaining matches and settings (i don't wanna see Daut vs Viper BO7 on 1v1 arabia again)
2) once players reach fame they will be selected for showmatches. Those that already win tournaments (and pricemoney) or those that already are famous (from streaming/making many appearances) will benefit while those that are behind will stay behind. I would prefer to see the 'weaker' pro's getting motivation to reach top and being promoted by giving them opportunity to play for pricemoney and fame (in tournaments or small events)
3) donating for showmatches instead of tournaments might lead to a shift of focus of the proplayers to those smaller events where they can easily schedule and earn easy money, without having to prepare much. Tournaments might lose their value, altough I think many proplayers will still be interested in (large) tournaments because of 'prestige'.
4) collectively donating to a large event like boa or nc will have potential for these tourneys to become really large and prestigous. Players will have more motivation to practice. This might lead to better quality games, more participants. And on top of that the community will grow with large events (very large events can lead to articles, spotlights on streamingplattforms like twitch, attract viewernumbers and lead to great youtube content.
Everyone who knows how things should be run should start casting and running tournaments themselves instead of telling other people how to do it.
Its a good way to make the PLAYERS who actually do the job get money in a shortspan, and not leave all the money to the casters who just commentate on other people's work.
I like showmatches. Donated to a few of nili's, want to keep aoc competitive scene alive and those are nice incentives for top players, instead of streaming and playing the same amount of time than a caster and getting not even 1/10 of the viewers/money when they're the ones doing all the work.
Way to make this toxic and create confrontation where there is none.
No one is telling casters what to do, and if there's someone ordering others what to do then he's just an ***** and there's no need to escalate the issue.
All I see are some people giving ideas on how to improve in all aspects (casters, players and viewers) and only a minority of commenters is criticizing either showmatches or tournaments just for the sake of being negative I guess, or trying to make it look like a war of showmatch vs tournament, which is infantile at best.
I think this post is good for the community and is pointing in some directions that could potentially benefit everyone, mainly an "alliance" of sorts between the big casters,or at least a better flow of information, communication, ideas and projects between them all.

(paladin, nili, ask57, t90 etc ..).
I'm confused by the people who are implying that showmatches aren't fair because the same players get all the money, but I don't see 1900s/2000s winning big tournaments and big prize pools.
