Should they change the way how players spawn in TG?

Some people keep complaining how "fixed positions" (and civ picking) killed TGs. So would it be better if the "pocket number player" also gets a chance to be the one in front?

People can still pick player colour which decides the "horizontal position" and play with their friends on the same flank, but "vertical position" wouldnt be guaranteed. So civ picking also doesnt guarantee civ advantage.




EDIT:
And indeed, this isnt something peopleve been playing for 20 years.

Fixed positions isn't bad to balance skills within a team, the problem is having both options available, picking civ+fixed positions should only be on unranked game modes.

Getting rid of the civ selection could help with the current match making, but those who play all day indians as pocket or koreans in arena might complain a lot.

Yes. Because then I can pick my favourite colour and still have a chance to be flank.

By flank you mean the one in front right? As with the way I propose, teal would still be the one in the middle of the team, just not necessarily in the back.

I think so?

In a 4 v 4 currently you have:

Blue Grey

Green Teal

I would like to play teal but be in blues or grey's spot.

Edit: phone formatting seems to have screwed up what I was trying to say, hopefully on PC it makes sense.

What you mean is that both of these positionings are possible? If so yes this would be a improvement.

Yes

Both Front / back being possible, shape of the two teams could be asymmetric, but you will always be at the sides if you pick 1 2 7 8.

You'd have to completely rework lots of maps for this to work right?

Lots of maps are based on a circle of players around a central ring - Oasis is the most obvious one that comes to mind but even Gold Rush, Gold Pit, Golden Swamp, and so on.

Arena would be pretty messed up. Wouldn't affect maps like Lombardia or Black Forest.

So basically, this change would only really apply to the specific subset Arabia-style maps. So you either have to have a condition where only on these maps, pocket players have a chance to get thrust forward into the middle, but not on other maps...

or... a ton of maps need to be reworked.

Neither seems particularly attractive to me. I also don't really see what is wrong with having pockets and flanks. It's the best way to do it. It sounds like what you really want to do is play TGs with random civs, random positions, or both, turned on, which already exists within the game (but not the ranked ladder yes)

I think the positions should still be somewhat mirrored so both teams have the same number of front / back pockets but overall I like the idea.

I myself dont really mind fixed position / civ picking, just wonder if thats a good idea (ignore the financial issues ofcoz).

Just Arabia all other maps are somewhat irrelevant\fine the way they are.

If the 'center' players are in the front getting tripled/quadrupled might become a problem, - right now you can have a sad time on flank if you get 2v1 and your pocket booms, but if you are in the center it is much easier for the entire enemy team to get to your base. I feel especially in 3v3 that could mean if your in 'center front' and your team loses the first engagements you might be just dead.

On the tripling a single player, I don't see the problem if it's the same for both teams.
