Deathcounter, can I suggest you put things ahead of money in life. You will have a much better time.
I must have paid £20 for DE. Steam tells me I have played 591 hours. I have paid less than £1 per DAY, yes DAY of gameplay.
I enjoy the game more, I play the game more and I have paid less than £1 a day.
If you enjoy it, play it, if you are not playing a game you enjoy because you think a £20 remake with monthly patches (sure people will claim all the bugs etc, but the support still exists, they are still making changes and paid) and what I can only imagine is more expensive hosting than Voobly (I could be wrong, maybe a scenario where it is cheaper for someone like MS but would be more expensive for Voobly) because you think it is a cash grab then you are going to miss out on lots of fun in life. Are they making money? Probably. What should be more relevant to you is your value, which a lot of the community feel they have got for the low price paid. All the people complaining have probably had value for money too.
To this very day, I never gave MS a single cent, enjoyed fanbase content and thank all pirates.
Voobly version 1.0.0.0 was released in 2009. Most recent update was released three weeks ago, version 2.2.5.68. We did five major rewrites of both, the web site and the client, so it still runs on an up to date Linux server and supports the latest version of PHP, MySQL, Windows 7 / 8 / 10.
Do you have any idea how much work and time you have to put into development, just to keep alive any existing code?
This is not a crusade for anything, this is just a statement that I knew exactly why I hate MS, because I knew exactly that DE will have pathing issues and all of what we hated about HDAgain, the discussion is not about the money, of course it is not very expensive (I paid 10x times more in a computer to run it) It is about what it represents, the way it has been sold and it's current development, lack of communication, and in the worst case, lies...
But Deathcounter, you are pushing all of this a bit over the limit with those comments, I feel like this is still your crusade for realms, and don't get me wrong, I am all-in for community projects (it will probably be the only way to keep everything alive in the future), but you also need to give some credit to the good things HD and DE are bringing.
Edit: To the people complaining about Voobly GUI, I don't feel the same, it's true that it doesn't follows current design lines of most OS but I don't think efforts should be made on updating its UI, at most, maybe adding an option to update custom themes made by the community (it already supports old themes) should be enough.
FFS EVERYONE GIVES A VALID ARGUMENT THAT MAKES SENSE AND COUNTERS WHAT I SAY AND I GET ANGRY
STUPID ANALOGY THAT MAKES NO SENSE
As I've mentioned before, it's great having pros, players and streamers, interacting on our favourite community forum. But I'm really not sure they have a duty to do so.Thanks to both you T90 and Viper for taking an effort to describe their thoughts here. We need more of that
Ignored + banHi guys,
I know the situation is pretty bad. I do not play that much, so I still did not manage to grasp all the bugs, but both Reddit and this forum are full of complaints. The devs also dont see to communicate much ? I wonder, should the pros maybe abandon DE for some time for Voobly ? Or host next tournament on Voobly ? I mean, not matter the goals MS has with DE (potentially being just a marketing tool for AOE4) they need the top players to stream and play tournaments to make traffic.
That shipped has sailed long ago memb. Problems that still exist that long after DE release are very unlikely to be fixed.
These same words could also be said after the release of HD, and yet here we are. One remake later...
Most of the pros and streamers have access to a discord channel with the devs. In this channel we bring up every problem we run into, and provide recorded games and clips of issues for them to look at. Pretty much everything we have brought up has been addressed, fixed or is still being improved upon since the release of DE, just like I'm sure the things we're bringing up with this patch will be fixed as well. This gives reason for believing in a bright future for the game as well.
Zoom feature
Auto reseed (post imp where wood isnt an issue)
Auto Scout (nice to use midgame if sc still alive)
Shift click
Tech Queue
Nicer UI
Able to see civ before gamelaunch
4 more civs and constant balance changes.

There is no denying that there have been some rough patches with some pretty severe issues, and pretty much every streamer and pro out there have expressed concerns and disappointment when the issues are there, publicly. Us ranting and calling Microsoft and the devs names does nothing except enable our viewers to attack Microsoft and Forgotten Empires in an unacceptable manner furthermore.
I loved Voobly, the Userpatch and everything along with that, but the brutal fact is that I just enjoy the game way more with DE. I accept that people will have a different view on the game and the circumstances, but there are some pretty silly accusations being thrown around here that aren't fair.
I definitely agree that the pros need to use that discord channel to bug the devs about every little bug, I just meant they don't necessarily need to come here to keep us updated. But I am also glad Viper did so! Guess they could assign a new spokesperson every month so it's not always him... 11I'm with Jarvin that the community actually does need it. It isn't necessarily their duty, but the words flowing from great names will almost always have more power than others. In that sense it is needed for stuff like this.
Even though I currently don't have much of a connection to this game, I'm glad to see that Viper took the time to write something. I respect that.
