To add to what T90 said - abandoning DE would be the best way to make sure it doesn't improve. Microsoft wouldn't start funding Voobly tournaments, they'd just move on from AoE2 entirely. If you want AoE2 to be better off, the best way to do that is to continue to speak up about the state of DE while showing that you have an interest in the game's longevity.
DE gameplay it's much better than wk and that's the more important factor. Sure bugs are bad, but at least voobly adds zooming, all the new hotkeys, new way points, cero lag, matchmaking, UI customization, a resource panel and so on. i don't see why anyone shoud ever come back
Couple of times a week some people show up and suggest moving back to Voobly. Is there a some kind of paid advertising going on that I am not aware?
No. The best way to make sure DE doesn't improve is to let the devsµsoft know that no matter how badly they **** up, thousands of people will still play their shitware, and spends tens of thousands of dollars hosting tournaments on it.To add to what T90 said - abandoning DE would be the best way to make sure it doesn't improve. Eh, I disagree that gameplay is actually better in DE. Units/vils/shiftclicking/pathing and mustusestandground bugs still make gameplay arguably considerably worse than Voobly. There is reasonable doubt (see:this and multiple other threads) based on developers stating there were no pathing issues on release and the patches so far if gameplay will ever actually improve to be fully better than Voobly. Spectating/save game/censor is still yikes.
That being said -- the real difference is QoL features/matchmaking system. People have their own opinions, but it's nice not having to wait for hours in a lobby only for someone to go !ratings and boot you in game/have to wait 20 mins for another game.
I don't fault people for posing the question that if QoL is improved on Voobly and DE does not improve why not make a switch.
The answer for the community is a little complicated. Most of us played AoE long before DE, and we'll keep playing long after the DE hype train is gone. So long as the tournaments continue to be sponsored on DE, that's where the pro's will play. Why would you play to get better on a platform that didn't have a $50,000.00 tournament coming up? All of the pro's love AoE or they wouldn't bother playing. But if they can have fun and make money, they will play where the money is. Why wouldn't they? They have the opportunity to make $ on platform x with almost no discernible skill difference from one to the other?
Custom scenario folks will stay on Voobly/HD because the hitboxes on DE are ridiculous (trying to micro vils behind a castle, now try microing towers intentionally surrounded by units like in Khanz blood) -- but that might be fixed some day.
Some people will stay on their own communities (lol zone.com, gamespy, gameranger, etc.) forever. I think it's great that DE is bringing new people into the game.
Yes, influencers have more opportunities through Microsoft than Voobly -- but you can't and shouldn't fault them for that. I'm not a lawyer so I don't really have insight over Voobly's legality but I'm willing to bet the pros will play where the money is, which at present is DE by a longshot. I doubt any of the pros/influencers would have a problem casting/playing both if there was an equal level of interest in both platforms, but there isn't -- and you shouldn't fault them for that.
That shipped has sailed long ago memb. Problems that still exist that long after DE release are very unlikely to be fixed. That make nosense, the thing needed here is to keep developing the game as much as possible and focus in the main things, some of the stuff is not that needed, or not needed at all, just focus in pathing and matchmaking/spectator and when you fix that then add anything else you want.
oh this KNOW IT ALL guy. yeah sure, why stop there? lets pirate league of legends too and let the players play all of the champions for free on voobly, that game has even better player numbers, and then spam the platform with ADs to make money. and no one will sue voobly because COME ON, THEY HAVE NO RIGHT OVER THEIR PRODUCTBring the DE civs into WK or just make it free with all other civs and just pirate their game. Make these MS bastards wish they never made DE
They are not allowed to switch as much as Chinese citizens are not allowed to criticize their government. But unlike them, its because they don't get money anymore
have you ever watched MBL's streams? the guy rants (rightfully) about DE every single stream. the same goes for T90 but with more considerationStreamers will never be independent and say out loud what they think, Microsoft doesn't allow it, else they can say goodbye to mixer and any tournaments.
streamers who abandoned Twitch for the inferior Mixer
the guy signed a contract with mixer and probably there is a minimum amount of hours that he has to stream per month or before the contract expires to promote the platform ( im just guessing, no one knows the details of the contract except for viper), like any other major streamer who signed a contract with mixer like "ninja" or "shroud" , you want him to say " **** the contract " because there are some cheaters in the game? and beside that, he is a full time streamer and professional player, thats his source of income, thats his JOB. you are hating on him because he is doing his job?Why else would Viper keep playing with all those cheaters in ranked?
Do you really really think its fun for him?
Voobly version 1.0.0.0 was released in 2009. Most recent update was released three weeks ago, version 2.2.5.68. We did five major rewrites of both, the web site and the client, so it still runs on an up to date Linux server and supports the latest version of PHP, MySQL, Windows 7 / 8 / 10.I think the actual situation on DE with the last patches is very bad in terms of hacks, bugs, pathing and mucho more. But i cant return to that early 2000's fossil sofware called voobly.
Its all so good, look, new graphics and more civs. MS didnt fix anything else wrong with HD, but just rebranded it.
Sorry mate, but we don't want to get sued by them. It was made clear by MS, that we better don't add the DE civs or support their enhanced graphics. And if any Voobly Official read this:
F*cking use the freaking chance and make Voobly an actual option and fix all the flaws, update your GUI and then get rich, it will pay off. Bring the DE civs into WK or just make it free with all other civs and just pirate their game. Make these MS bastards wish they never made DE
What kind of "improvements" are you talking about?Nice try but voobly will have to make some improvement first
