Should i delete AoE2 DE?

I literally played over 1200 ranked games and still i m stucked in 1000-1100 Elo... I almost never use build orders, except 2 houses and 6 on sheep, the other things are just randomly done.

So my question is, when i start using build orders, is there a realistic chance to get into 1.2k or even higher? Or is it over for me and i just should delete the game?

BOs will definitely help if you care about elo tho, 1k2 seems very reachable if you are 1k now

When i win, i have fun. But when i lose i get sometimes very angry and rage, specially when games got post imp and i invested so much time.

My advice would be:

• Practice your Dark Age and Feudal Age a lot against the AI (personally, I do it on all visible so I don't need to bother with scouting) - for my elo, my TC idle time and macro is actually really good simply because of how much I've practiced it
• Watch the recs on Capture Age. Notice how much idle TC time you have (it will shock you, I promise) and notice if your eco balance is bad (i.e. you have lots of wood or gold)
• Focus on cleaning these two things up so you have a really clean Dark Age and Feudal Age
• Make army
• Then you'll be able to get to Castle Age faster than most 1.1k players and kill them very early and easily with your Castle Age power spike (Eagles/Knights/Crossbows/whatever)
• Don't even bother adding more town centres; just practice one TC play from now until you're like 1.3k.

Mix in games vs the AI or play the campaigns even. If you play only ranked you'll get too frustrated. By mixing it up, you'll find other ways to have fun with the game.

But if you have a goal in mind (let's say 1200 elo) then yes you need to start using build orders and make other necessary adjustments to your game. There's no way around it.

In theory your ELO will make you win 50% of the games and lose the other 50%, always. The only way to break that is by smurfing, which is bad, or improve continuously, which is impossible.

If you get angry mostly when you lose long games, maybe you should try to play more all-in strategies that lead to shorter games: Huang's all-in castle age pushes, Persian TC drop, feudal age spam of units, etc.

at almost all levels except for the very top, you will have a 50% win rate. so just take it easy, have fun, and take losses as a learning experience.

Nevertheless, I thought that at your level the guy that had better macro won (better boom and better expenditure of resources).

• play campaigns
• try out custom scenarios
• try out multiplayer CS (CBA etc)
• pick a strategy you rly like and do just that (there was a period where I did only forwards for a week and i lost 3/4 games but i rly enjoyed it)
• try EW
• make your own scenarios
• ban arabia and play only arena
• play tgs
• take part in one of the many "noob friendly" small tournaments
• play some random settings with friends / random aoe2 players (lots of discords you can probably meet ppl if needed)
• try out some different maps
• look at some of the "rly hard" achievements and get those

with 1200 ranked games you might just want a short break from ranked at least, so that you feel you want to play rather than have to play

I usually just concede the game if I don't like my opponents civ or map so my avrage game is more fun. It also means that I usually win games when I deicide to play them.

Stop thinking about points. Unless you aim to be like top 50 players, points do not matter to you or anyone else. Whetever you are 1600, 1800 or 2000+, noone really cares and it will not make game magically better to you. Hell I would say that playing in lower ratings allows for some funky stuff, so just keep playing way you do if you enjoy. Raging after lose is natural to some people.

play dm. build order is easier to learn and u get to use the fun units, not sticks and stones.

Build orders will make you a better all round player than just YOLOing it after 6 vills on sheep.

However, I would also say don't focus heavily on ELO, and just enjoy the game for what it is, learn things that compliment your style of play, and watch back recordings to spot things you can do better.

I have had a fairly similar path to what you are hoping for, I was stuck around 1k and I am now 1250 (ish) with 3-4 build orders, of which none are close to perfect but that gives me room for further improvement.

ELO > Enjoyment

Dude, you're just wasting your time, start small,get some basic strategies, in ara or arena (what do you like most)And do it until you do everything perfectly,I advise you to find training sessions on youtube there are a million of them from top players, and just repeat Bo!But to play 1200 games and get stuck at the initial stage (zero) given that you want to progress, just time in the trash.

Build orders are a must, even the mighty lord loses games when he is improvising vs someone following a BO and the meta, it doesn't matter on which level you are, the build orders are there to optimizing timings, resources and even military production, you can get rid of the build orders once you have adapted to the calculations behind economy and military creation, but to reach that point you need hundreds or maybe thousands of games with different vill distribution on resources and timings to learn mechanically without the need to follow the order.

I have seen 1k elo players turning into 1600 just by mastering one build order at time.

If you want to get good without following build orders or doing the same every game, that is the hardest way of improving cause basically you will be doing everything bad and non optimized all the time and you wont even notice it.

I am telling you this as an experienced player, even making the minimal change to the old pop 22 sc rush i have got in time there but with not enough food for scout production, cause i wasn't following the BO, same happens with drush fc, even at pure booming if you don't follow the BO you will be missing enough wood or food, don't underestimate the efficiency of the build orders.

Shift delete imo. There is not much left to get from a game after playing it more than 100 hours (depending on the depth of the game), at that point you already know more than the game could provide. You either leave it or it becomes an obsession (to get better/doing same things over and over again). It is no longer a game, it is expertise on a game.

Look over your games or think them over yourself. Find one thing to improve and do that the next game. For example, you might find that you went for the wrong army composition of hussars and skirms as Ethiopians and therefore lost. Next game, choose Ethiopians and go Arbalesters and Halberdiers instead. If you forget the things you learned, just learn them again. And hf!

This is so true, best advice in this thread imo.

You may feel that with 1200 games you "should" be better, but at the end of the day you are going to reach a point that you don't improve from so don't worry too much about that. Unless you truly find enjoyment from the "self improvement" side of grinding ranked, in which case there are some other great tips for how to get better and maybe climb some hundred elo.

I personally hate the feeling of being in a losing position in a game, that for the longest time I would always just yolo strat (castle drop/fwd siege/ 1 tc multiple stable knights) if I felt I was losing, to just end the game quickly either way.

Luckily for me, it turns out that's often actually the best strategic choice aswell, as if you are 15 vills behind in castle age, then trying to catch up by booming when your opponent is already on 3tcs will rarely work.

However, now that I'm trying to improve, I try to force myself to stay in the game and play relatively standard if I'm slightly behind rather than immediately commiting to a yolo all in.
