Diagonal gate bug is probly one of the most well known bugs in aoc: if you place a diagonal gate, only the middle part of the foundation will count as wall, the corners of the gate will be still walkable until you completed the gate.
I always was curious if ppl think this should be fixed or not.

no. make all palisade gates have no collision until fully built.

then if people wanna slam gate it will at least cost stone.

i'm not against trapping, but palisade gate is too op.
did you see viper vs whoop where he showed can just build 5 palisade gates adjacent and wall out archers without being shot? I mean it just shows how dumb it is, at least market costs 200 wood.

it absolutely should, but I've heard it's not possible to properly fix. It's a hardcoded bug.

There is one fix, but the issue with that fix is that the corners of the gate blocks units after placing the foundation (without even building it ). you can read more about this here

It's always fun to place a diagonal gate foundation and then build other buildings such as towers in the corners before finishing the gate 11

It's one of those things that's probably not going to be fixed, but I suppose there's a small chance Aoe2 DE could do something about it.

This is honestly a no-brainer in terms of SHOULD it be fixed, but my understanding is due to how the gate foundations work it's impossible. If they do find a solution however, I feel like most people would be on board

Diagonal gates are longer than normal gates though, which makes them stronger in reach for quickwalling etc simply being stronger. But I'd like the change I don't think it changes much for gameplay, not like plebs that still want SQ.

I got a good one : no one knows how to.
Yea John the late had one but it meant unbuilt foundations could have corners not be passable so you could just spam diagonal gates in enemy trade and block carts without ever having to build them. Wish there was a fix though!

John's fix is one part of the fix. I have something more complicated in mind that would use his method without the downsides but it will require a lot of testing. And it probably won't work.

Assuming Johns remarks are correct, what would be the downside of making an unbuilt Palisade Gate a 4x4 structure instead of a 2x2? Would then the whole area be blocked for units and need to be clear before it could be built?

Unfortunately a 4x4 building takes 4 times as much space as a 2x2, so it's significantly harder to properly place it. Making diagonal gate 4x4 would be an easy fix, but I'm afraid the downsides would be too much.
