Sign ups are open to any team of 4-5 players, although only the top 8 teams will qualify. Each team will select a “Team Captain”, who will be responsible for coordinating their team’s scheduling, as well as sending their recs to an admin after their match. All players have to state one main account that is used for seeding (for how seeding is done see index tab "Seeding" below). Additionally, they can also choose to state an account they want to play on during the tournament. Keep in mind you have to play all matches on the same account.

Sign Up Thread

Bracket Format:
Two GSL-style groups. First place of each group faces the second place of the other group in single-elimination semifinal bracket. Winners of those matches face in the grand final.

Group selection will be determined by seeding, with Group A consisting of seeds 1, 3, 6, 8, and Group B comprising seeds 2, 4, 5, 7.*

Seeding:
Seeding is based on a weighted average of all team members’ current ratings on the 1v1 RM and TG RM ladders. The formula for determining the overall rating per player will be: 80% 1v1 rating, 20% (TG rating - 500 elo). This is done due to the inflated, and sometimes inaccurate nature of the current team game ladder.

The rating for the entire team, for the purposes of seeding, will be an average of the weighted ratings for each team member.*

*This is subject to change by tournament admins prior to the start of the tournament

Match Settings:
All group stage and qualifier matches will be Bo5s; semifinal and grand final matches will be Bo7s.

Game number 1 in every series will begin on Nomad. As the map pool is pretty small overall, there will be no map bans or drafts. The losing team of each game will select the map for the next game as their home map. Any map that has not yet been played in that series can be chosen as a home map.

Civilization Settings:
This is going to be very complicated, so read well: in every game, all players will select “Random” as their civilization. That is all.

Random civilizations ensure that each game will feature 8 unique civilizations, forcing all players to adapt to the wild circumstances given to them by both the map generation and the civ generation. These civ settings were chosen because not only do they fit with the theme of the tournament, but also because civ drafts do not cleanly work with 4v4s in Bo5s or Bo7s (without re-drafting), and hidden pick/no repeat is boring and leads to a bunch of mirrors.

Restarts:
Due to the highly variable nature of these settings, one restart will be given to each team per series. Restarts must be called before the 5 minute mark game-time. When restarting a game, all players must re-roll their civilizations, allowing teams to use their restart to overcome a perceived civ disadvantage, as well as all the other reasons one might want to call a re. This does not include admin restarts (which will be detailed below).

Specific Ingame Rules:
  1. Players cannot build a Barracks before their first Town Center. This rule is pretty self-explanatory and is standard in most Nomad tournament games. Failing to comply will result in an admin loss.
  2. No Villager fighting until 3 minutes of game-time have passed. Villager fighting is here defined as actively trying to kill enemy Villagers with your Villagers. Admins can adjudicate situations where there is alleged Vill fighting before the 3 min mark and can result in an admin loss.
  3. “Laming” enemy sheep, deer, boar, etc. is allowed, as is walling in enemy resources, as well as walling in/trapping enemy Villagers, but only AFTER 3 minutes game time have passed. Doing so before 3 minutes will result in an admin loss.
  4. In the event where an enemy Villager inadvertently wanders too close to a completed enemy Town Center, the player is allowed to garrison their TC and turn the enemy Villager into a human pincushion. Note that this does not count as Vill fighting, and can be done at any time. Be careful with your Villagers!
  5. Slinging - players may not tribute resources to their teammates until the slinging player reached Imperial Age (players who already reached Imperial Age may tribute resources independently from their teammates current Age to anyone). Failing to comply will result in an admin loss. The only exception is a player who lost all his TCs and dosent have the resources to build or buy what he needs for a new TC. His team may sling him only the needed amount of resources to build a new TC but not more prior to reaching Imperial Age.
  6. TC Dropping: A Town Center rush/drop, also commonly known as “douching”, is allowed, but only AFTER the completion of a player’s first Town Center. This means that you cannot start building your Town Center, realize an enemy is nearby, and then delete your TC foundation to rush your opponent. You must wait until your first Town Center is completed before TC rushing. Failing to comply will result in an admin loss.
  7. Admin Loss: In the unfortunate event of a team earning an admin loss, the opposing team will be considered to have won the map in question, and will also get to choose the next map in the series (unless the series was on match point, in which case the opposing team will simply win the series). Please read the rules so this does not have to happen; ALs are not fun for anyone

Admin Restarts:
  1. Any admin restart must be called before the 5 minute mark game-time, and should be explained to the opposing team. An admin will be available to resolve any confusion/dispute.
  2. Due to Nomad maps having unique starts, the typical admin restart parameters of trapped/bugged resources do not apply. The exception to this is if a player’s starting Villagers are somehow trapped at the start of the game, or through DE magic get stuck before the player’s first Town Center is completed. If players are unsure if their situation qualifies as an admin restart, simply pause the game and message a tournament admin.
  3. The most likely cause for an admin restart for this tournament is a situation wherein two opposing players inadvertently build their starting Town Centers in range of each other. In the event that this occurs, it will automatically be an admin restart. See above rules regarding TC dropping, or “douching”.
  4. In case of an admin restart, the players have to chose the same civ they got randomly assigned in the bugged game.

Broadcasting/Streaming:
All matches can be watched at twitch.tv/ornlu_aoe. Due to the logistical difficulty of scheduling a live match involving 8 players, matches will be cast as recorded games at the corresponding time/date listed above. Because of this, PoV streaming is unfortunately not possible. However, the casting of matches during or after the set broadcast date is completely open. If you would like to cast any matches, please message an admin via Discord so you can get access to the recs. If you would like to cast a match in which you have played, you are allowed to do so - as long as you do not prematurely spoil the results.

As Tinyleague is now open for Streaming POV or live casting any player/caster that wants to stream the games has to set his Stream on a 3 minutes delay.

All streams must clearly display the tournament banner in between games, have “OrnLu’s BIG NOMAD Cup” in their stream title, and include an !obnc twitch command that reads: "!obnc OBNC is hosted by OrnLu at twitch.tv/ornlu_aoe, more info about the tournament can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/OBNCInfohub "

Tournament Rules:
  1. Playing Matches: All games must be played on the current AoE2: DE patch. All games need to be recorded. If a game is not recorded, it must be replayed regardless of the result. If a player drops or disconnects, the game must be saved and restored. If this is not possible for whatever reason, players may agree to restart the game. If there is a dispute, an admin must resolve the issue.
  2. Player Conduct: Please do not be toxic. All players/admins must be treated respectfully, and any instances of racism, toxicity, flaming, etc. should be recorded and reported to an admin. Appropriate action will be determined by an admin on a case-by-case basis. This rule should never need to come into effect - please act like adults.
  3. Cheating: Obviously, cheating of any kind is forbidden. This includes smurfing, macros, account sharing, etc. Any player caught cheating will be removed from the tournament and will forfeit any prize money. Specific situations will be adjudicated by a tournament admin. Just please do not cheat and make everyone’s lives more difficult than they need to be.
  4. Scheduling & Punctuality: All games must be played before the games are scheduled to be broadcast. Since each match involves at least 8 players, please make the effort to be as proactive and flexible as possible. Scheduling should be done through the relevant AoEZone thread. Each time is required to confirm a specific time for their match. If there is an issue in finding a fair match time, admin action will be required. Teams are responsible for ensuring that all players are punctual and ready to play at the agreed-upon time. Again, there are going to be a lot of people and time zones being coordinated here, so please do not be late if it can be avoided. If a team is not ready to play within 20 minutes of the agreed match time, admin action will be required.
  5. Recorded Games: All games, including disconnects/restarts, must be posted in the relevant AoEZone scheduling thread after the match is completed. Please also include the match results. In addition, since the games will be cast as recs, it is absolutely imperative that match results remain private until the match is broadcast. Spoiling a match result will result in admin action.
  6. Spectating: For what are hopefully obvious reasons, there may be no spectators for any tournament game. This can be easily done by unchecking the “Allow Spectators” box when making a lobby. If this rule is not followed, admin action will be required.
  7. Rule additions/alterations: Tournament rules can be added or changed during the tournament by tournament admins. All players will be promptly informed of any changes via AoEZone. This is OrnLu’s first time organizing a tournament, so chances are that he screws up something, somewhere. Please be flexible when it comes to rule additions/changes. Such additions/changes will be clearly marked in red.

Match Timetable:
Since the games will be broadcast as recs, teams can schedule their matches for a time that works best for everyone, within the given time frame. These will overlap, as teams may play their matches as early as they wish, but will have to make sure their matches are played by the time that match is scheduled to be broadcast. All games must be played during the following time frames:

BL Group A (Tundra):
Opening Matches - July 30th through August 5th

BL Group B (Desert):
Opening Matches - July 30th through August 3rd

BL both groups:
Winners Matches - August 5th through August 10th
Losers Matches - August 7th through August 12th
Decider Matches - August 10th through August 17th

TL Semifinals:
Semifinal 1 - August 13th through August 19nd
Semifinal 2 - August 13th through August 19nd

TL Grand Finals - August 22nd through August 28th

BL Semifinals:
Semifinal 1 - August 18th through August 24th
Semifinal 2 - August 20th through August 26th

BL Grand Finals - August 21st through August 28th

Admin Action/Decisions:
In the event of a rule violation or if some unforeseen problem arises during the match, an admin will discuss the issue with the players to come to an agreeable solution. If teams cannot agree on a solution, an admin will act as the final judge, and players must follow the admin’s decision. In extreme cases, admins may take action without consulting players - this will not likely be needed, but is put in the rules just in case.

NOTE: If an issue arises, teams may discuss the situation and come to an agreement without needing to reach out to an admin. Most players are likely going to be experienced, and it is encouraged to simply reach out to the other team before resorting to contacting an admin. In the spirit of good sportsmanship, it is (hopefully) likely that there is common agreement in what is considered “fair”.

Players/streamers can always reach out to tournament admins if they have any questions or concerns. However, please DO NOT message OrnLu if your question/concern would spoil a series, as it would make his casting of said series even worse than usual. If you have such an issue, please message any of the other admins.

I know it's under consideration, but I don't think these will be fair groups, I think 1, 4, 5, 8 and 2, 3, 6, 7 would be more fair.
With the proposed groups it's arguably better to get seed 2 over seed 1 and to be seed 4 over seed 3

Therefore I see value in 1 3 5 7

The rules suggested 1 3 6 8 which imo is better than 1 3 5 7, but I'd still prefer 1 4 5 8 eventhough it means semi's might turn out to be 1v3 and 2v4.

You assume reliable seeding, but I think that in this special case the 1v1 or team game elo can not predict the result of the tournament. It is just a seeding to make groups with, I am really sure in the end, there will be a lot of surprises and we dont even know the elo gap between seed 4 and 5 or 7 and 8. And as stated by the rules, admins will reconsider the system, if the actual groups made by this system seem to be too imbalanced.

This is not very clear who the "they" in question is. Is it the slinger, the slingee or both?

Played many Nomad games on DE. A specialist of sorts.

1) Please explain why players cannot build a Barracks before their first Town Center. Not really "self-explanatory". Though 99% of the time no one will do this, it is possible for Persians and Malians to do this with no significant penalty

** 2) NO vill fights before 3 mins should ONLY be restricted to attacks on villagers building their first TC. Amend this rule!!! **

If some one is gonna steal/kill my sheep, kill my deer, wall my resources, build a damned house in front of my gold, or at my TC, wall me in, you better damned well allow villager fighting to contest for border control and resources.

3) There might be a case where a player INTENTIONALLY builds a TC next to an enemy one in progress, to force a admin restart due to unfavourable civ picks. To prevent abuse of this nature, civs picks must be the SAME as the previous game that was restarted. Close this loophole.

If some one is gonna steal/kill my sheep, kill my deer, wall my resources, build a damned house in front of my gold, or at my TC, wall me in, you better damned well allow villager fighting to contest for border control and resources.

3) There might be a case where a player INTENTIONALLY builds a TC next to an enemy one in progress, to force a admin restart due to unfavourable civ picks. To prevent abuse of this nature, civs picks must be the SAME as the previous game that was restarted. Close this loophole.

The barracks are not allowed to be build to prevent all in kill strats ig. One player could build a barrack instead of a TC close to an opponent he spoted and use early militia to kill his starting vils. BUt i will talk about it with Ornlu.

As for point 2, the rule applys only for the first 3 mins in which most players are building their TCs. The rule is necessary to ensure nobody is out of the game right from the start and to balance Goths free loom. After this you can use vils to fend of any kind of laming ect.

The last point may be open for talks among admins but if players realy try to force an admin re via suspicious TC drop we (admins) will react accordingly to such unsportsmanlike bending of any rules and as mentioned in the rules a douche attempt before finishing your first TC will result in an admin loss anyway.

1) Understood. One villager can wall himself in with 3 half-built palisade walls to build the TC safely. Other 2 villagers..depends where they are.

2) Goths having loom at the start unbalances things. They didn't have this bonus in the past..so it is unfortunate for nomad. Assuming no loom, vill fights outside of building TC are pretty fair game as the early moves can have a great impact.

The laming villager can just walk away as they should if they receive a few hits. None will be out of the game. Have this rule instead: "Goths are not allowed to do laming acts before minute 3, but are allowed to defend against lamers"

This is also why if you spot an enemy villager, you do not build something in his vision, or if u see an enemy villager coming, you do a quickwall to complete your task.

Anyway at minute 0.1 to minute 2.99, i hope someone abuses your current rule to wall an enemy TC to prove a point. Thanks anyway for replying.

Edit: And if someone trys to wall your TC in due to his luck of spotting yr TC early, just attack the bugger and get the admin to review this case if the lamer wants to push his luck and stops the game. I think walling in TCS should be against rules, if rule 2 stands.

Yep, there should only be rules against vil fighting if there are also rules against walling **** in before 3 minutes. Otherwise this tournament will be really unplayable

Goths shouldnt be a problem as it seems devs did made it like with chinese/mayans vils on nomad so the bonus is only available with a finished TC, sorry for the confusion as i forgot that.

About the walling during first 3 min i am in contact with Ornlu and we will discuss it, but its nomad and luck based laming is a part of that map. The no vil fights rule will stand but possible extra rules about walling vils/tcs ect. are up for debate.

Also criticism is very much welcome plz try to stay civil ^^

isn't "Lock Speed [ ]" suppose to be on also so people can't turn up or down the game speed? by pressing + or - ?

Hey guys! This just goes to show that no matter how much thought you put into settings, there is always stuff you overlook 11

1. Good point about resource laming/vill trapping before 3 minute mark. Edited the rules: now you must wait 3 minutes before laming resources (including walling them), as well as trapping enemy villagers. It's okay to do all that stuff, but only AFTER 3 minutes game time.

2. In case you guys did not know, Goths indeed do not get Loom until their first TC is completed. Since there is no vill fighting, this shouldn't matter, but it's still good to know :smile:

3. Edited the post so that Lock Speed is now [X]-ed. That was just a typo.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Nomad is a tricky beast when it comes to determining what is "fair" during the first few minutes of the game, so I appreciate having these conversations now so everyone is on the same page :smile:

Hi Ornlu. Nice change in adding rule 3. The principle here looks to be a custom 3 min treaty game with "gentlemen rules", then anything goes. I just want to comment on certain situations where players can adapt.

1) If you as a player just placed a TC and discovered EARLY an enemy TC within firing range, you can opt to cancel the TC immediately to recover most of your resources and rebuild somewhere else.

2) If your TC gets razed down early and you lack wood to rebuild a camp/TC, you can still chop wood and manually garrison into an ally TC to get the resources. This is especially important now as allies are not allowed to tribute resources for you to rebuild. I actually would suggest a slight rule modification to allow tribute of resources to a "homeless" ally in whatever age.

3) Sheeps will be a contest even before 3 mins. If your sheeps get converted in enemy line of sight, just kill it and move on. I would not consider this laming, but just a trade. If i don't get it, you don't get it too. So if you convert an enemy sheep, consider it fair game for the enemy to chase it down and kill it.

Also as a final comment, it is not game over or game breaking even if opposing TC are built within firing range. While I can understand the spirit of the rules, it will be pretty disruptive as there is a pretty high chance of this happening irregardless. My point is if players can consider taking a bit of time to "inspect" their surroundings and avoid unneccesary admin REs, it would be the best for everyone.

I would suggest the following changes:
Allow sheep laming already in the first 3 minutes. If you scout with your sheep, they are at risk. If you want to keep them, keep them close to your vils. I think this avoids overcomplicated situations/admin decisions, or situations, where you actually would need to fight with your vils in the first 3 minutes.

The allow sling to a homeless player rule: I would change the slinging rule, to allow to sling "just enough" wood&stone to a TC less player. By just enough, I mean the minimum amount such that the player can build a TC. E.g. if the receiver already/still has 100 stone only sling the needed wood etc.
If they accidentally sling too much (miscommunicate) -> Admin loss.

Add sportsmanship to the rules!

If possible, add some "MVP" prizes, like
  • "#Clearly food boats are bad" - Player who reached final did not build a single fishing ship.
  • "Three is the number" - Player attacked a single castle with 5 or more Trebuchets.
  • "I am a Boomer" - Player built the most Demoships in the Tournament.
  • "Sponsored by" - Player wrote "OBNC" with outposts. (Fully built, not only foundation or destroyed)
  • etc. ...
  • EDIT:
  • "Ok, Boomer" - First player who takes down a castle with a single petard wave.
  • "Your defenses are useless!" - Garrison a siege tower and hop over an enemy wall.

Hey everybody,

I used the initial seeding/qualification method for OBNC because I did not know how many teams would be interested in signing up. I wanted to keep it very simple and not go overboard making qualifiers or a silver league or whatever because... that would not make sense if 4 teams signed up - as was the case until yesterday 11

With that said, a bunch of teams just signed up over the last 24 hours, and now I feel compelled to alter the qualification method slightly to accommodate this. I know this is kind of last-minute, but especially because, as of right now, seeds 8 and 9 are only ~2 points apart, I would like to make a couple qualification showmatches for the teams that are on the bubble. This does mean that the main tournament will have to be delayed by a week so there is time to actually hold the qualification matches.

Further details on scheduling will be coming over the next couple days, but please note the following alterations to the qualification method:

- Seeds 1 through 6 are through to the main event like normal
- Seed 7 will play a qualification match against seed 10
- Seed 8 will play a qualification match against seed 9
- Seeds 11 and down unfortunately do not qualify for this event
- Note that the seeding method is still the same
- Qualification match settings will be the same as group stage matches (Bo5)

Again, I apologize for having to make these changes at the last minute, and I hope these changes will seem fair and reasonable for everybody. I will more formally announce and detail these changes when the sign up period has ended, but I wanted to give everybody as much of a heads-up notice as possibly.

Hi,
I couldn't help but notice that namely Hearttt and Stefan has 1100 TG rating in the spreedsheet, which is probably a result of having played few games early on, or by not having any games played so the rating defaults to 1100 or something along those lines. This does lower their average by a huge margin. Im sure you guys will fix this by maybe giving known players a TG rating of ATLEAST 2k+ just for seeding purposes. (obviously they can both reach 2k8+ with ease)

Or just to be objective about it, round up everyone below 1900 to 1900. That will prevent 1100 skewing the average down.
