If you have any questions, a piece of feedback or would like to propose a change, please make a post in the Announcement thread.
Rules could be modified to suit the player-base better or to cover more corner cases. Whenever a change is made, I'll make a post in this thread.

The main event will be feature 16 players. For this reason, we'll only take up to 52 players from the sign-ups, prioritising the highest elo players in case we get more than that. The 4 highest rated players according to aoe-elo.com will get a bye to the main event, while the rest will have to play up to 2 qualifier series (depending on the amount of sign-ups) to determine who the other 12 players will be. To see the tournament time-frame, including qualifiers, check out the time-frame section below.

If you'd like to register yourself, go to this page and use the provided format to sign up.

Sign-up DEADLINE: November 7th 23:59GMT

Players must be respectful to other players and admins. This includes, but isn't limited to:

- Respecting the tournament time frames
- Trying to be flexible when scheduling, so both players can play at comfortable times when possible
- Respecting the time of other participants by showing up on time for your series
- Not abusing pauses
- Understanding the tournament limited man-power when asking for things

Basically be a good sportsman and you'll be good.

This tournament offers a novel format that will bring variety to both players and viewers. In addition to this, there will be a mechanic to build each player's civilisation pool early on, that they'll then be able to utilise later as described below.

The main event consists of a Group Stage and a Knockout Stage.

Group Stage: Players will be split into 4 fixed groups of 4 players each, using standard seeding. This stage will take place across 4 weeks, and every week the civilisation and map thematic will change. This is a continent themed tournament, so we will have one continent per week.

Week 1 - Europe
Week 2 - Americas
Week 3 - Africa
Week 4 - Asia

Each week players will have to play a Best Of 3 series against each of their opponents in the group. This means each week players will have to play three best of 3 series.

According to the performance of the players within their group each week, they'll be able to build a civilisation pool that they will utilise later in the knockout stage. This will be done by prioritising top-performing players in each group to pick their civilisations first. If a civilisation is chosen by a player, it is no longer available for other players to choose. Civs pool building in one group does not affect other groups. Here's an example.

Player 1 in Group A is the top performer of the first week, followed by Player 2, then Player 3 and finally Player 4. Player A will be the first one to pick his civilisations first. If he chooses Franks and Teutons, these civilisations will no longer be available to the rest Group A. If Player 2, then, picks Celts and Italians, 4 civilisations will be removed from the pool and Player 3 and 4 will have to pick from the left-over civilisations.

The amount of civilisations each player gets to pick per week will vary depending on the amount of civilisations that are playable in that week's continent. A full list of which civilisations will be playable in which continent as well as how many civs can be picked on which week will come shortly. Meanwhile, feel free to leave feedback in the announcement thread.

Knockout Stage: The top 8 players from the group stage, consisting of the top 2 players from each group, will move on to a single-elimination knockout stage. At this point, each player will have their fixed civilisation pool to play with. In this stage, players will be able to draft maps from the entire tournament.

Quarterfinals and Semi-Finals will be Best of 5, while the Grand Final will be a Best of 7.

For time-frames and drafting information check the sections below.

All seeding will be done using aoe-elo.com when possible. When not possible, bottom players will be seeded using aoe2.net elo.

If more than 16 players sign up to the tournament, we will have up to 2 rounds of qualifiers. The first round will reduce the players to 24, while the second round will reduce them to 12. Standard seeding will be used to determine who has to play which rounds.

These are the current deadlines for each stage:

- Qualifiers
Qualifiers #1 (Bo3): November 9th-12th
Qualifiers #2 (Bo3): November 13th-15th

- Group Stage
Europe (Bo3): November 16th - 22nd
Americas (Bo3): November 23rd - 29th
Africa (Bo3): November 30th - 06th December
Asia (Bo3): December 07th - 13th

These above are suggested deadlines for each week, but it isn't imperative that players finish their series in the week belonging to that continent. December 13th IS a hard deadline and by this point players should have made their best effort to finish playing all 12 of their series. It is recommended that players try to stick to the suggested deadlines so they don't get too many games to play in the final week.

- Knockout Stage
Quarterfinals (Bo5): December 14th-18th
Semi Finals (Bo5): December 19th 15GMT* and 17:30GMT**
Grand Finals (Bo7): December 20th 15GMT*

*Disclaimer: If finalist players cannot play at this time due to colliding events, the date for the Semi Finals and Grand Final can be moved upon mutual agreement.
** If the first semi-final ends earlier than this time, we should continue with the second one

The game lobby settings should be the standard settings used for ranked 1v1 games.
It is both the lobby host and the guest player's responsibility to make sure the settings are correct before starting to play. If you complete a game or a series and one of the settings was incorrect (i.e fast speed, all-techs, etc) the games will count towards the tournament, unless both players agree to restart.

Qualifier Settings

Both rounds are Best of 3.

Drafting is done directly in-game. Player A = higher seed, Player B = lower seed.

Each week of the group stage players will play using continent specific maps and civilisations. After the week is over, players will be able to pick civilisations from the civ pool to utilise during the knockout stage. The best performing player will have priority to pick the first civilisation, followed by the second best player and so on. After everybody has chosen a civilisation, the same order will be used to pick their second civilisation, and finally their third one in cases where more than one civilisation can be chosen. A civilisation cannot be chosen by more than one player per group. Below is a detail of the number of civilisations players can unlock per continent, as well as an example of the system.

Europe: 3 civilisations per player
Americas: 1 civilisation per player (with the player finishing last picking one civilisation from the multi-region-civ list instead)
Africa: 1 civilisation per player
Asia: 3 civilisations per player

The drafting will be done after all players from a group complete their series each week.

Example
Week one, Europe:
In Group A Player 1 came out first, Player 2 came out second, Player 3 came out third, Player 4 came out last.

Player 1 picks a civilisation from the European pool that he wants to carry over to the knockout stage: Franks
Player 2 picks a civ: Teutons
Player 3 picks a civ: Slavs
Player 4 picks a civ: Vikings
Player 1 picks a second civ: Celts
Player 2 picks a second civ: Byzantines
Player 3 picks a second civ: Britons
Player 4 picks a second civ: Spanish
Player 1 picks a third civ: Italians
Player 2 picks a third civ: Bulgarians
Player 3 picks a third civ: Portuguese
Player 4 picks a third civ: Magyars

Week two, Americas:
In Group A Player 4 comes out first, Player 3 comes out second, Player 2 comes out third, Player 1 comes out last.

Player 4 picks a civ: Aztecs
Player 3 picks a civ: Mayans
Player 2 picks a civ: Incas
Player 1 picks a civ from the multi-region civ list: Saracens

So on and so forth for week 3 and 4. Each group will be independent from the other groups. In the end, the top 2 players from each group will move on to the knockout stage, where they'll have to use the 8 civilisations they picked during the group stage.

Restarts: There will be no restarts available to players unless it's an admin restart.

Admin restarts: These can be claimed by a player if at least one of the following conditions applies:
- A starting gold or stone doesn't have more than 3 sides available to a player.
- A starting resource generates in an area that isn't accessible by the player at the beginning of the game (inc. stranded boar/sheep/deer patch, trapped golds, etc)

Drops: whenever a players gets desynced, loses internet connection or drops for whatever reason, players must attempt to restore the game. If the files from the players have different restoring times, the file of the dropped player will be prioritised (to prevent idle time for the dropped player). If the dropped player's restore file doesn't work, and they were significantly behind in the game, players can agree to concede that game to whoever was ahead. If no agreement is made, then the game must be restarted using the same civilisations.

Admin wins: Whenever possible, try to work the issues out before resorting to admin wins. If this isn't possible, admin wins will be available under the following conditions:
- A player has not made an effort to communicate to the other player using their preferred contact method when possible.
- A player has not informed of their inability to play the series at a previously arranged time, doesn't show up within 15 minutes after the arranged time, or is not able to schedule or reschedule at all.
- A player has not been able to finish a series and isn't able to reschedule.

In all cases make an effort to reschedule and play as many of the series as possible.

There will be 4 map pools consisting of 4 maps each, and 4 civ pools to be utilised during their corresponding week. Each map pool will be revealed one week before the relevant stage begins and a Map Pack is available here as an in-game mod for testing. The pack will be updated weekly with new maps and fixes. Feel free to try them out as they become available and provide feedback in case any changes need to be made.

Europe:
- Nordic Pass
- Budapest
- Clearing
- Fortress

Americas:
- Crater Lake
- Cenotes
- Karst
- Tenochtitlan

Africa:
- African Waters
- Badlands
- Desert Bara
- Savanna

Asia:
- Paddies
- Mudlands
- Enemy Islands
- Pond Arena

Civ Pools:
Europe: Britons, Bulgarians, Byzantines, Celts, Franks, Goths, Huns, Italians, Lithuanians, Magyars, Portuguese, Slavs, Spanish, Teutons, Turks*, Vikings
Americas: Aztecs, Mayans, Incas, Spanish, Britons, Portuguese, Franks, Vikings*
Africa: Malians, Ethiopians, Berbers, Franks, Persians, Portuguese, Saracens, Turks*
Asia: Burmese, Chinese, Cumans, Indians, Japanese, Khmer, Koreans, Malay, Mongols, Persians, Saracens*, Tatars, Turks*, Vietnamese
Multi-region Civs: Saracens, Turks

*Civilisations in red can be used to play, and have been placed there just so that there is more drafting freedom. They cannot, however, be drafted to carry over to the knockout stage. Turks and Saracens will be reserved for players coming out last in either Americas or Africa, so each player in the group can carry one civilisation over to the knockout stage during those rounds.

Player A (higher seed) of each series must submit a .zip file with the corresponding games to the admin Lord_Patito ( Lord patito#1970).

Currently the event has a prize pool of $1000, although it's likely the end prize-pool will be higher, as 75% of donations made to my channel during the event's duration will go towards it.

The prize distribution will be as follows:
1st - 40%
2nd - 16%
3rd - 7%
3rd - 7%
5th - 3.5%
5th - 3.5%
5th - 3.5%
5th - 3.5%
9th to 16th - 2%

The event is open streaming both for casters as well as players, assuming they comply with the following requirements:

- Display tournament banner during your stream before, after and in between matches.
- Mention during your stream/video who hosts the event, and include it in the stream/video title and description. Something like "Hosted by NovaAoE" works.
- Set up an easily accessible link to a page with the tournament information. A custom command with a link to this page works.
- You're welcome to remind people that the prize pool will increase with donations.

- Semi Finals and Grand Final must have a 2 minutes stream delay if players wish to stream their POV.

Due to the limited manpower, please be respectful with other players and don't try to exploit the tournament rules in your favour.

Admins:
@Lord_patito / Lord patito#1970
@NOVAinc / nigra#2795

Settings can change according to feedback, in which case I'll post them in this thread. To provide feedback and ask questions, head over here.

Added drafting presets for Captains Mode for players who wish to use it. Simplified the drafting civs a bit.
