I think that you can upgrade using the oficial win10 installer from the windows official site, but that they just don't promote that.

Just go straight to Microsoft's website and snag that Windows 10 for free...as long as you have a legit version of Windows 7 (or 8 etc)

  • Multiplayer: MP has been completely ripped out and built from the ground up, to be a server-based model. However, to know where we are exactly on MP, we need the community's input through the multiplayer beta. That beta will start soon and you can sign up through ageofempires.com.
  • Pathfinding: I totally messed up during that video with the attack move, had various melee units in defensive/stand ground mode. We're experimenting with a setting which sets default stance for units to defensive and I forgot to turn it off. (note: this is optional, not forced)
  • As many people mentioned: new QoL features are there to raise the skill cap, not lower it. Except we move the skill to the actual core of the game (strategy, execution), away from the ability to deal with the UI quickly. Or in other words: less fighting the UI, more fighting the enemy.
  • Price point of Age2DE is $19.99, with a $5 discount for people who own HD. Bringing it down to $14.99.

    So basically, the price of the new expansion ($9.99) and then $5 extra for everything else. Especially for people who are missing any expansions, that's a good deal.

a new offical update from FE is here. It's pretty much confirming all the features that were (unoffically) listed on the German article that I shared before from reddit. I think the only new (and big) update is that it will have matchmaking.

Of course, HD Edition also got rid of DirectPlay. The only way to develop a DirectPlay game right now is to download an incredibly outdated DirectX SDK from 2007! Although HD Edition _only_ swapped out DirectPlay for Steam, and it sounds like DE has swapped out a much bigger part of the multiplayer code.

Well, im testing the game and I cant say anything, but I like what I see. It has a lot of potential. On a pro perspective, the zooming thing can be very well used during fights.

Anyway, even tho I feel that it has a huge potential, other things are very scrappy and should be better, but Im afraid I cant say it here...

Feague is like "its amazing but i can't say anything, it can get better but i can't say anything, i see a lot of potential but then again i can't say anything" lol

Don't worry for those who have played the aoe 1 DE now, we know what to expect about the general qeue for techs/units and farms, the game there is playable and feels smoother than the aoe HD.

We can say that the game is gonna be playable and good looking, the remaining concerns for most of us is the balance and the multiplayer with players from different countries, the steam version is unplayable between south and north players.

I know we can't get rid of the lag at all but at least using servers, the player with low specs and bad connections isn't going to drag everyone else to his latency, so having strong hardware/connection would grant an advantage in ms response like FPS games.

At this point Im convinced that I made some mistake signing up for beta, even though I got a confirmation email, cause Im stil not invited, despite signing up from very early on :cry:

People being invited into the beta isn't based on sign up time. If anything it would be pc specs or pure randomness.

A few new pieces of information about AoE2:DE have been released and compiled by cuc_AOE on reddit.
I'll just copy-paste the ones that seem most relevant to me:

  • AoE2DE shows the same issue as AoE1DE: at a zoomed out [4K] view, the game begins to stutter;

  • Interviewer: Is it bottlenecked by the stagnant 2D performance of graphical cards? - Cysion: This is conceivable.

  • The multiplayer code has been entirely replaced by the code Relic wrote for Age of Empires IV;

  • Players are coordinated and auto-connected to the closest Microsoft server; disconnects and desync problems are better handled.

  • LAN mode is again confirmed.

  • Pathfinding is not significantly changed, due to how important it is to the character of AoE2.

I'm especially interested in the multiplayer part.
Does this mean that PvP has been scrapped all together?
And who gets to be connected to the closest Microsoft server? The host?

How the multiplayer with server thing will work?

If the server is based in US, US players will play with 0 ping while south americans will play with 200-300?

If the server is based in Europe, european players will play with 0 ping and asians/south american players will play with 300-400 ping?

Because from what I heard players won't have the same ping as we do now in Voobly for exemple.

Well, Microsoft has several servers spread across the World, I would imagine. So I assume they have servers in South America too.

What I'm wondering is how does the game decide to which server does it want to connect.
Does it always connect to the server closest to the host? Or does it calculate the distance between the players and look for a server located somewhere in-between?

Microsoft has a lot of servers around the world due the xbox live thing, the infrastructure is not a problem, you will most likely be connected to the closest one.

We need to take a look the other multiplayer games developed by relic to gives us an idea.

The pings will be individual per player and thus unfair.
The only way around that is to enforce a minimum lag (say, 200ms), but I highly doubt that's implemented.

As the servers will be run on Azure (most likely), you can predict your lag here: http://azurespeedtest.azurewebsites.net/ or http://www.azurespeed.com/
Note that the actual pings will be lower than shown on those websites (due to browser limitations). However, there will for sure be some server lag (which is the same for everyone), which would make the latency go up again.
