A couple of days ago, I got the opportunity to talk with TheViper about his personal preparations for the main event and what had changed from Red Bull Wololo 2. I also touched on the preparations of the whole of GamerLegion. Some of the up and coming talent in the scene, and a few things more.

I talk with him about whether he thinks quarterfinals is a fair assessment of his skill, as he has been eliminated in that round for the past two series. I talked with him about turning his opponent's home maps against them, his Atacama strategy, Vietnamese strategies, and what exactly went wrong in Arabia when he lost with Vikings.

Thank you for doing all those interviews, it's really interesting to hear players' opinions on ongoing tournaments on a more regular basis!

Some advice from my perspective: You tend to ask very, very long questions. This puts the focus on you instead of on the interviewee, where it should be. Imo you should work a bit on getting to the point more quickly. You can do a longer introduction at the start and maybe once in the middle of the interview, when you switch to an entirely different topic, else the questions should be short and crisp.

One reason the questions are that long is that you tend to speculate about the answer already during the question. In the interview with TaToH you said something like "I can imagine what you will say" or "you are probably a bit biased because they are your teammates". This can be removed from the questions completely. Don't put words in his mouth, just let him answer. If you feel it is worth discussing, raise a follow-up question afterwards instead.

Disclaimer: I am not a journalist or someone who does professional interviews so this is just based on my perception as someone who likes to listen to these kind of interviews.

You are right, there is a balance I am trying to find when asking questions. If I asked more short and quippy ones then players will give me shorter answers, instead of explaining themselves. obviously not all players, but from my experience, most will. On the other hand, longer questions do exactly what you said, take the focus away from the interviewee.

Still working on improving that balance so I appreciate your feedback on that!

Go through some of these interviews again, copy down the questions you asked, and then work on them like you are revising your writing to see if there was a way for you ask the same thing in fewer words.
