Red Bull Wololo, the iconic global 1v1 Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition tournament, is back for a groundbreaking final fifth iteration, with a medieval theme and an awe-inspiring LAN Final at Castle Heidelberg in Germany. Since the beginning of August, registrations have been open for the qualification stage taking place on August 14th and 15th, offering aspiring conquerors around the world the opportunity to take on the biggest stars in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, including the reigning Red Bull Wololo Champion, Liereyy. Each tournament is a fierce battle of wits as only the top players rise to the ultimate challenge and compete for the most vigorous civilisation.

A spectacle for the ages, Red Bull Wololo V is set to be the most prominent iteration yet, befitting the final chapter of the series. The quest to Castle Heidelberg has already begun, and players can register to the Red Bull Wololo V qualification stage, where hundreds of players will battle for two spots in the final. The group stage will take place from September 13th to 17th, determining the final twelve who will throw down the gauntlet at the Red Bull Wololo V Final from September 18th to 19th. A spectacular final chapter, the gothic Castle Heidelberg in Germany will be transformed, bringing players back in time with breathtaking medieval cosplay and more! The final will be narrated by leading broadcast talents and streamed on YouTube and Twitch, with streams in English, German, Spanish and many more languages.

Red Bull Wololo V fortifies the success of previous events in the series. The first Red Bull Wololo began in 2020, and viewership and participation have continued to increase as the storyline evolved. Red Bull Wololo IV came to an exciting five-day conclusion in June 2021 and saw 40,000 peak concurrent viewers and over 1,000 Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition players registered for the Red Bull Wololo IV qualification stage. The world's highest-ranked Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition stars from around the world are set to return for the final chapter, including Red Bull Wololo IV winner Kai 'Liereyy' Kallinger.

Red Bull Wololo plays out on Empire Wars, a unique game mode for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, seeing two players face off in an honourable duel like the knights of old. Each game starts in the Feudal Age, skipping Dark Age to jump into the action as fast as possible. As part of the series, each Red Bull Wololo has introduced a new story arc for players to compete in. Red Bull Wololo I and II had players compete to control a castle and library in Western civilisation. So can anyone explain to me why we always skip the first ~90 seconds ingame time?

I can understand getting into RM games 90 seconds later, bc we all know top 14 players can place 2 houses, queue vills and start moving scouts without failing.

But EW is supposed to be action from second 1, and it is. So why not show it then?

 

Everyone should know that playing on LAN simply isnt possible if you want to actually watch the games, this was discussed at length during NAC3.

Spectating is tied to the games being played online, otherwise the games can not be seen on the spectate server.

well this is something to improve for the devs. make offline games the posibility to be casted online. so we can have real LAN tournaments.

 

Can T90 maybe tone down his critique of civs and civ choices? It's kinda hurting the overall positivity of the event.

I get he has to point out certain things, part of the job, but he kept going on and on and on about Vinch's Poles pick and it got so negative and annoying at some point. It's just so unprofessional.

Maybe Vinch had a plan and it just didn't work out. Give the pro players the benefit of the doubt. A plan isn't bad just because it doesn't have a 100% success rate. If Bohemians didn't work out for Viper, do Boheminans suddenly suck too?

It's like we complain if players play the meta and then we **** on them when they try new things.

I'd rather have them spend their time, effort and money to fix real problems with the game like alt-F4 and disconnects than trying to fix something that's working perfectly fine as it is.

Maybe it was a counter pick, maybe he wanted to go for something else but realized ahead that the timing won't work out. Chances are the players at RBW5 know what they are doing. If T90 sees that Poles aren't great against camel archers, Vinchester will know it too.

I also really dislike the trash-talk about Daut's speed. Is he as fast as Hera or Viper? No, but he is still really fast. By just watching the pov you couldn't differentiate Daut from most of the other pros.

Completely disagree. I'd much rather hear the honest opinion of the casters than have people constantly walking on eggshells anytime they may want to voice a critique/opinion.

I think everyone there is mature enough to realize any criticism isn't personal and is just part of the casters' jobs.

Telling this for so much time... I hate watching t90 cast Daut, actually I hate it so much that sometimes I watch live events spanish if there is no choice. Constantly making jokes about Daut’s micro, apm, slow reactions. And in his own world, who is microing crossbows or mangonels is a better and more skilled player who should clearly win.

Time after time, years after years, sooo many games and he still cannot grasp that, this game is not a micro simulator. We are in RBW5 and he still keep saying that EW is more agressive than RM and it should be bad for Daut. He just cant get it Daut “actually“ beat the fastest micro oriented player, in most aggressive set up, using Koreans and using weaker CA when nobody was using them in a BO7. Also he won in other big tournaments as well. But you know it can only be “accidents” for faster player... Actually I was shocked about his casting of RBW3 final and interview after. His voice was going lower and lower game after game, and interview was so bad that people wanted Memb interview to enjoy and share Daut’s happiness.

You can get more hyped from micro wars, ground attacks and quick walls which I can totally understand. But when you reflect your bias casting in the sponsored e-sports channel, it totally kills the enjoyment I get from the game. Because there are a lot of people like me, who are little bored of the game after 15 years and follows the scene just for Daut. Do whatever you like in your channel, enjoy MBL‘s useless 20 minute drag on’s for already lost game, I dont care...Just dont do it when people has no other choice for english stream.

Ps = Saying every game “daut has been top in the scene for almost 20 years” doesnt make up for it.

 

yall should just be happy he is no longer missing games in their entirety because of a bird flying into the corner of the map. but the only thing i found truly annoying during what i watched was some of the casters continuously laughing at their own unfunny jokes

 

T90 is the best caster as of now, and the community size he has shows that.

 

I really like all our casters, and there's no one better than them in the community at doing that. But there's 2 things that are offputting for me, and this is just me.

1- Memb's spanglish is sometimes hard to understand for me. He sometimes mispronounces many words in the same sentence that I have to figure out what he was trying to say.

2- When they all go over and over again about how slow Daut is, or that he has bad micro. I want to watch top level age of empires, but if the casters tell me one of the guys is bad I get this feeling that maybe the match is not worth watching, maybe that's just me. And then turns out Daut wins said match and gets me thinking if his micro is really that bad or slow.

 

wouldn't it had been better to add a little bit more granularity to the counting rather than just count series won? @ buchholz

But casters don't cast the game to players, they cast the games to viewers, and most of the viewers are 800-1200 elo. They don't know everything man.

 

I generally enjoy casters performance.

One thing I hope Memb can improve... I mentioned before too, if he has some kind of language barrier, I prefer him to speak a little bit slower (like what he did for the interview). I just couldn't understand what he said most of the time, and one thing that is important, please don't try to hype and exaggerate things all the time. (killing absolutely everything, defend absolutely everything, cost absolutely everything every 60 seconds).

"absolutely everything" these two words just stuck in my head everytime Memb is the caster. These are the two words I remember the most, not the game, not the highlight.

 

There is a confilct on interest when it comes to casting Daut's game. T90 keeps calling him a noobio, Nili and Memb are his teammates ( Clan and Drunken Forest - possible bias included ). Looks like Dave should just do it by himself.

The "wrong" attitude will have you annoyed with T90's quirks, Nili's jokes or Memb's English but I assure you they can be enjoyable once you're in the right mindset. This will allow you to enjoy and appreciate the diversity we have instead of being annoyed with everyone's personality because it doesn't match your silly standards.
This doesn't mean we can't criticize or give feedback, not at all, that's partly what the forum is for. But at the same time it's a lot of fun enjoying every caster's quirks instead of being annoyed by them.

T90 is the best caster as of now, and the community size he has shows that.

Whoever wins a tournament is the best player in that tournament.
There will never be a best caster though, that's fanboyism speaking. And if there was, the largest amount of viewers certainly wouldn't be the way to measure it. You can have your favourite caster, but that's another thing entirely.

That's one interesting fact that a lot of natives don't know. For the average (non-native) English speaker it's usually easier to understand someone who's also average at speaking the language (i.e. Memb) than someone who's proficient at it (i.e. Riley).

Of course there are exceptions and each case is different, but that's usually how it goes for people who aren't too good in a language.

 

I am enjoying all casting, but for me at the moment the best duo by far is Memb-Dave.

 

There are some right whingers around these parts! The tournament has been fantastic. I'm looking forward to an incredible two days of intense AoE, RB style. I think Lieryy and Hera will be difficult to beat and expect to see them play each other in the final.

The casting and analysis has been top notch. We're very lucky to have four unique casters who each bring a different flavour. I have a personal favourite duo but I think all of them do a great job. Riley is also a great addition to the team and a fantastic presenter. Three hours and counting!

And it's completely fine to point out how bad the cav is agains the camel archers, even multiple times, I don't care. But don't blame the player again and again and again for the bad choice when chances are, this isn't what he wanted. "We don't really know what Vinchester's plan with Poles were, but now he feels like cavalery is his best option while even we know, they don't do well against camel archers. Now he is stuck with an unit that doesn't work." This would sound sooo much nicer and still explain the situation to the viewers with less experience.

I'm not hating on T90 or anything, I still enjoy him casting and he is not the only one where I feel casters could reduce their criticism a bit or at least go into deeper details why they think something is bad (Mbl's Burmese pick). I just don't have to say something to the 95% of the casting I'm happy with.
