Red Bull Wololo, the iconic global 1v1 Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition tournament, is back for a groundbreaking final fifth iteration, with a medieval theme and an awe-inspiring LAN Final at Castle Heidelberg in Germany. Since the beginning of August, registrations have been open for the qualification stage taking place on August 14th and 15th, offering aspiring conquerors around the world the opportunity to take on the biggest stars in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, including the reigning Red Bull Wololo Champion, Liereyy. Each tournament is a fierce battle of wits as only the top players rise to the ultimate challenge and compete for the most vigorous civilisation.

A spectacle for the ages, Red Bull Wololo V is set to be the most prominent iteration yet, befitting the final chapter of the series. The quest to Castle Heidelberg has already begun, and players can register to the Red Bull Wololo V qualification stage, where hundreds of players will battle for two spots in the final. The group stage will take place from September 13th to 17th, determining the final twelve who will throw down the gauntlet at the Red Bull Wololo V Final from September 18th to 19th. A spectacular final chapter, the gothic Castle Heidelberg in Germany will be transformed, bringing players back in time with breathtaking medieval cosplay and more! The final will be narrated by leading broadcast talents and streamed on YouTube and Twitch, with streams in English, German, Spanish and many more languages.

Red Bull Wololo V fortifies the success of previous events in the series. The first Red Bull Wololo began in 2020, and viewership and participation have continued to increase as the storyline evolved. Red Bull Wololo IV came to an exciting five-day conclusion in June 2021 and saw 40,000 peak concurrent viewers and over 1,000 Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition players registered for the Red Bull Wololo IV qualification stage. The world's highest-ranked Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition stars from around the world are set to return for the final chapter, including Red Bull Wololo IV winner Kai 'Liereyy' Kallinger.

Red Bull Wololo plays out on Empire Wars, a unique game mode for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, seeing two players face off in an honourable duel like the knights of old. Each game starts in the Feudal Age, skipping Dark Age to jump into the action as fast as possible. As part of the series, each Red Bull Wololo has introduced a new story arc for players to compete in. Red Bull Wololo I and II had players compete to control a castle and library in Western civilisation. So the winners of the qualifier don't even qualify for the lan, but for the group stage, which will literally last till the day before the final, so everyone who qualifies for the final will quickly ask for a visa and fly in in the night from the 17th to the 18th...?? What am I missing?

 

It says final chapter, so are we to assume that there will be no Wololo events after this?

The group stage is all part of the LAN, and the two qualifying players will be attending the event. The final refers to the final stage of the event.

Thank you for the clarification. Still I don't quite understand the text. The first part I quoted seems to indicate that there will be 12 players at the lan in total. The second part indicates that 12 players will go from the group stage into the final stage. Which one is correct?

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. There will be twelve players attending the LAN and group stage.

I can't remember it being so hard to get basic information about a big event in a very long time. The communication simply needs to be better.

 

What are the prices for the plebs? I loved that for Wololo III

 

With Covid, plans have to be fluid and it is also being done in a relatively short time scale to fit in before AoE4 launches. I'm assuming this is why info trickles out or gets updated in real time.

It looks like the top 8 via the RB rankings are invited and everyone else qualifies. Now 4 players will qualify to make 12 for the group stage LAN? Followed by SFs on Sat 18th and 3rd place/Final on Sun 19th.

I thought the qualifier was for 2 spots? Now it is 4? Don't these start in 2 days?

How is there still so little information? Invited players? Format? Prize pool? Etc Etc. I'm sure they wanted to get this in before AOE4, and a LAN finale in a castle sounds awesome as a fan. It just blows my mind that there are good players who have to head into these qualifiers with this incredible lack of information and incredibly mishandled launch of what would otherwise be the most hyped tournament for myself in some time.

 

at each red bull wololo installment I'm enchanted, because even after 21 years of existence, I see Age of Conquerors is sponsoring these tournaments every time!

 

I am so hyped for this tournament, but I agree with the majority here that only little information is available. Which players are invited (what about Viper, Hera and so on), will there be an audience at the LAN event, how do you get tickets (since I'm from Germany that would be really interesting), how much is the prize money etc.
I thought all those Infos will be revealed on 12th
It is also very sad that it is the last series of this tournament. Even if I did not like RBW 1 because I was somehow reluctant to EW, I liked it better from event to event - really good work by Red Bull and everyone involved who work in the background. I'll miss it, RBW has been special. Thanks very much!

So it's 2 or 4? Or it will decided and posted in a trailer with more information on August 27th?

 

The event sounds amazing, the information is on an not imaginable low and confusing level, with contradicting numbers being thrown around left and right.

I have no idea how this happens, especially with chrazini making these posts.

Maybe it is 4 spots now, because 2 of the invited players could not make it (flights, visa, covid issues etc)

 

Definitely excited for the next RBW and the LAN is very cool, but it's really strange to start playing qualifiers tomorrow already with so much information missing.. what are the prizes? Who is invited?

 

it's a bad idea to held an off-line event at this time when Delta variant break throught-out Europ.

As I know all the China-players will not participate( including Mr_Yo and Vivi), because of the safety issues and facing 14 days quarantine in G ermany, when they back from Europ another 35 days quarantine in China. Same case to Vietnamese players and Brazilian players. Maybe to US and Canadian too( remember! all the extra safety cost and quarantine fee is pay by player himself, plus at least 2 months off from work, even the 1st price money can't cover those losses )

Final stage maybe only European players.

PS: to those who question why the lack of informations and changes in short times. because today is the deadline, only 282 players participated an event suppose 512++ players.

On page 4 there is a section about the check-in and score reporting.
Basically you have to check-in before every match when the match becomes available. You have 20mins to do so before getting auto disqualified.
On page 10 there is a section about seeding. Seeding with highest achieved 1v1 RM rating will be done
1 hour after the signups closed which should be today 16:00 GMT according to the smash.gg page.

Would make sense because MbL should be #9 and registered for the qualifiers. Nicov, dogao and TaToH too, which should be after him. The top 8 based on the RB rankings all are not registered for the qualifier.

I understand your concerns and frustration due to the lack of information. I assure you that I will share more information as soon as I am able to.

To clarify a few points, there's only going to be two players qualifying and ten players invited. This means that we'll have a grand total of 12 players. They'll be going through two stages during the LAN event, a group stage and a final stage played as single-elimination.
